Well, Prime 3 clearly had some inspiration from Halo, and I'd like it if they went back from that and took more inspiration from the first and second games in the series.
Going for a more COD type game would be a complete reverse in what I want out of the games, so obviously that wouldn't impress me much.
I don't think we'll see another "Prime" game though, so it's moot anyway.
Prime 2 wasn't as all-around good as Prime 1, but I'd say it's highs were definitely higher. Better bosses, and Sanctuary Fortress just as great or better than any of the locations in Prime 1.

Metroid Prime one and two were fantastic - it would've been a tremendous shame had they never happened. 3 was OK, but lost that which made the first two feel like Metroid.
Prime 1 really sucked me in. One of my favourite games ever.
I'd be very happy with another Metroid Prime style Metroid (FPA) with significant improvements and a huge alien world to explore. Other M was a big misstep and utterly forgettable, so I'd rather they try and pretend that didn't happen.

Just like how Resident Evil 4 reinvented the third person shooter, Metroid Prime 1 showed us the heights of what FPS games could achieve. A truly landmark game and on the short list of "must play" titles.

I'll chime in with those clamoring for a new side-scrolling Metroid. Give the Wii U a new first-person Metroid game and the 3DS a 2.5D old-school sequel to Fusion where she goes to destroy the Galactic Federation or something. Just like Fusion/Prime, having the games come out around the same time would be a great way to bolster sales and word of mouth.

2. Throw away cinematic cutscenes and pixel hunting sections.
3. Replace with interactive first person scanning to reveal story information and environmental secrets.
4. Make the environments bigger, more interactive and non-linear.
5. Add bitchin' soundtrack and analog controls.

Well, duh, to utilize the 3D effect! Sprites would be great, but with the direction Nintendo has taken Metroid (graphical showcases, by and large) I doubt that they wouldn't take the time to make it shiny 2.5D.
Idealistically, I want sprites. Realistically, if we ever get it, it will be 2.5D. And that'd be better than nothing.
I'd start running shouting and peeing everywhere!

Came to say this too. But I enjoyed Other M the whiny Samus was a little annoying and pixel hunting was shit but the rest of the game I enjoyed. Still I want a serious 2D game not a rehash of Super Metroid or a 3D Classics Metroid we've played them give us something new. I'd be fine with a 3DS game but would be nice to see it on the big screen with Wii U next year. I still can't believe we didn't get a anything about the anniversary.

Because the Prime series is amazing. This isn't to say that they can't expand obviously, but it doesn't have to be to the detriment of the Prime games.
Nintendo do not listen to this madman.
I want 2D Metroid too, but not at the expense of the superior Prime games.

No, Other M was poor in more than one way. The Ridley freakout is just too "huh? what? WHY NOW?". If anything, that would have happened at the start of Super Metroid.
Also: Zero Mission doesn't show anything of the sort. In fact, the game doesn't even acknowledge Ridley as anything more than a mere general of sorts.
Backstory and metroid: excellent (the Omega Pirate set-up). Story and metroid (other M): noooope.
But as it happens the Upad is just made for scanning stuff, so hopefully we will see another solid 3D metroid on it eventually. Or 2D, but that would be more 3DS territory.

Other M was even good, in terms of figuring out how to combine 2D and 3D platforming, game played like butter, even if it had design problems like the Waldo sequences.
Therefore, I take an uncouth, and evidently unfashionable stance: Nintendo can make whatever the hell kind of Metroid game they want. They have a pretty good track record, especially in comparison to how 99% of the industry handles long running series.
This is the kind of bizarre fannish attitude I don't get. Fuck good games, just remake the one and only game I accept and will play. No offense, but this is why Nintendo should not listen to their "Number 1 fans".

Prime is amazing what the hell is wrong with you people. Not saying that I don't want a new 2D metroid like Super which is also glorious. But saying Prime was bad is just extreme.

I would probably like two games, actually.
-One that uses a modified Other M engine, cuts the fat, add better controls and keep the game with as few FMV as possible. Take cues from Super Metroid in how to tell the story.
-One that uses what they learned from the Prime games, and have it be some sort of improved version of what Hunters tried to be. A short single-player campaign + a handful multi-player modes.
