Nintendo prototyped BotW using 8-bit Zelda engine

Man, I would have loved to play an 8 Bit Breath of the Wild. From the looks of things, the world wouldn't be as barren and empty when everything is condensed in this 8 Bit style.

Plot Twist:

Zelda Maker Tools are in 2D for simplicity's sake but the game has the option to translate your Zelda game as a 3D render based on your object positioning.

Make your own 3D Zelda.

Now that would be something.

Really, this whole idea seems quite brilliant.

Link moving diagonally was a clear (and welcome) concession to more contemporary sensibilities.

(Would accept Zelda Maker with crazy ass pursuant Darknuts.)

How long until someone posts the full panel?

Doesn't GDC post full panels to their Youtube channel? How long from the date of showing do they post them. I'm incredibly interested in this.

I wonder how far they took this prototype because they could have also prototyped some other systems as well to see how they fit together like the cooking, the temperature, stamina, and climbing, or even the degradable weapons constantly swapping in combat. What we saw seemed more basic than that but it would be interesting to take a look into that part of the development.

I need it...

As an old fart, this looks really appealing, even more so than actual BotW. I think it's just the simplicity, charm, and nostalgia of the graphics (Zelda 1 was a childhood favorite).
