Nintendo Sets Release Dates for Q1 for 3DS/Wii U

Is the average consumer even buying the WiiU right now though?

It has no wii sports mainstream game, and it costs over $400 if you buy another game for it. Nintendo might as well float hardcore fans along the first year and try to look more appealing to a wider audience next holiday with a price drop as the new consoles come out with larger base price tags.

You don't think the new MS/Sony will be priced more competitively this time around?

holy shit...i'm trying to think of a system that had that kinda lineup in its first year. Dreamcast is all that comes to mind for me - PS2 had some amazing titles right after that mark, though.

The N64 might have been even better.

Mario 64
Waverace 64
Pilotwings 64
Mario Kart 64
StarFox 64
Blast Corps
Cruisin USA

Terrible first quarter lineup, IMO.

Then again, I remember Nintendo shooting its load early with the Gamecube in its first two years (awesome as it was), only to see the system phase out in the end, so perhaps they're trying to do it the other way around? lol

As far as Pikmin, it was expected. This is Miyamoto's favorite brainchild and he'll delay this forever until it's perfect. Expect Zelda-like delays for this one.

Here's the EA PR

I wanted this game months ago, it comes out the same day as Monster Hunter damn...
straight port would have been fine months ago I am not sure if this will add anything to the experience, it's not like the integrated Miiverse in there

oh well I'll have to play both MH and NFS on the 19th if they are both on eShop

no eShop no sale

edit: I have Mass Effect 3 on disc so NFSMW has a chance of not making it to eShop like ME3 I bet fuck

The Gamecube's first year took a nice diarrhea produced crap over the Wii U's showing thus far.

Edit: The GC's first year in the US for reference.

Luigi's Mansion
Super Monkey Ball
Wave Race: Blue Storm
Pikmin
Super Smash Bros: Melee
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle(screw the haters)
James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire
Resident Evil REMake
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Monkey Ball 2
Animal Crossing
Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II
Resident Evil Zero
Metroid Prime

God, I loved that purple lunch box.
And here's GC at a comparable timeframe.

2001
Luigi's Mansion
Super Monkey Ball
Wave Race: Blue Storm
Pikmin
Super Smash Bros: Melee

2002
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle(screw the haters)
James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire
Resident Evil REMake

GC actually had a pretty awful Q1 post launch too, with mostly just late DC/PS2 ports. It's launch was way better for exclusives though on the other hand, so Q1 didn't sting quite as much.

So....how exactly are they going to sell 5.5 million consoles by the end of March?

They're not.

By the end of March, Nintendo will be looking at;

- 10k-20k per week in Japan
- Significantly lower NPDs for the US. Sub 200k per month
- A complete collapse in Europe with continued market irrelevance across the region.

With Rayman, Monster Hunter and Lego City to try and change that.

An absolute disaster.

Who the hell told publishers it was a good idea to pack all the 3DS titles into a period of 2 months?

Really wish some of those titles would have been Q4 so that my wallet doesn't feel so much pain at once....

Newegg, where's mah $10 of sale?

Also, do people not understand what Q1 means?

Can't believe you left off Eternal Darkness and Rogue Leader. And Star Fox Adventures. :/

So glad I waited for the Wii U. A price drop or at least a deal or two will be inevitable by the time Pikmin comes out. I am really excited about Monster Hunter but this repeated delaying of Pikmin is crazy.

I generally only purchase one game a month, so this doesn't really bother me. I'll probably pick up The Cave next week, and then Rayman in February. Then March comes and I'll have more choices. You guys and your Nostradoomus prognosticastions are always good for a chuckle though.

You forget rogue squadron, which at the time was a graphics whore's dream.

Edit: beaten

Ah, we already know for now that, commercialy, 3DS Q2 lineup is much better than Q2 in 2012. Last year there were Mario Power Tennis and Spirit Camera; this year Lego City Undercover (exclusive) and, above all, Animal Crossing. This without knowing what will be released from third party (except for Soul Hackers) and the possible other Nintendo title for the period.

Wii U
Rayman® Legends - Feb. 26
LEGO® City: Undercover - March 18
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - March 19
Aliens™: Colonial Marines - Q1

Nintendo eShop for Wii U
BIT.TRIP Presents... Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien - Q1
Toki Tori 2 - Q1

Nintendo 3DS
Fire Emblem Awakening - Feb. 4
Brain Age™: Concentration Training - Feb. 10
Etrian Odyssey™IV: Legends of the Titan - Feb. 26
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - March 19
Luigi’s Mansion™: Dark Moon - March 24
Pokémon™ Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity - March 24
Shin Megami Tensei®: Devil Summoner®: Soul Hackers - April 16

This is all the stuff I'm interested on the list. I think it's plenty of games (especially with the 4 or 5 PS360 games I'll also be buying in the period), but christ why must everything come out in those last two weeks of March? I'm guessing that I'll wait on Lego and Mystery Dungeon because of the release dates (since I also have Gears of War Judgment and Bioshock Infinite to buy around then). I'm glad I have cheap preorders in for EO IV & Rayman at Newegg!

God, I loved that purple lunch box.

If someone said Mario, Metroid, and Smash Bros were all coming year 1, people would laugh at that person's face.

Yet the GameCube did it. Amazing system. Brilliant.

Does that list show the Wii U lineup for the whole year? Or did I miss something..

In any event, looks like I won't be playing much of the system until the end of February. Bummer.

Nope and Nintendo's site list it as a partial list of upcoming titles.

There are four Wii U games listed that I will be getting by March so I'm good with what was shown.

Can't believe you left off Eternal Darkness and Rogue Leader. And Star Fox Adventures. :/

I loved all of those games. Yet, the GameCube sold like shit. If I recall correctly, it was because Nintendo was for kids, and wasn't taking mature audiences seriously. Too bad nobody bought it, as it had one of the best game lineups of any console ever.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 3D Feb. 12

Weird coincidence, but this is releasing the same week that Euro retailers had pegged for the (no show) Wii U version. I wonder if wires got crossed somewhere?

Noticed that Luigis Mansion Dark Moon, now, actually has a release date.

This also reminded me: Tokyo Crash Mobs and Fire Emblem Awakening Demo, are both available in the eshop today.

I just edited his list down. There were some other good releases too, like Sega Soccer Slam.

Eternal Darkness and Rogue Leader were arguably two of the best games on the system after all was said and done. Plus they catered directly to the hardcore. SFA was also the best looking game on the system aside from RS.

I don't get what the hell they're doing.

I bet people would be riding the red hot Nintendo train if they'd simply release Wind Waker HD and Mario Galaxy HD Collection to keep people busy during Q1.

How hard can that be? What's Grezzo working on? Majors Mask 3DS? Hire more studios, Nintendo! Make deals with independent game developers! You don't have games for your main console, fix that shit.

I love the gamecube, but it failed because of Nintendo. A comparable console to the mighty ps2 got lesser third party support and dismissed as a kiddy system. The ps2 and xbox were black super computer monoliths while the gamecube was this tiny purple cube with a fucking lunchbox handle.

It had a great lineup and the GBA linking was ahead of its time.

Well, if Lego City and Aliens are decent enough, i'll be getting those, so that's not too bad. I'll be trying to snatch some launch games at discount prices as well (Batman, ME3, Darksiders 2... whichever applies), and i still need to get SMBU and N'land.

Been playing ZombiU, AC3, Nano Assault and Trine2 up til now.

Those in it's first year? My list was from a search I did months back in one of the Nintendo threads. Maybe I missed them while looking through Wikipedia or something. Greatest console of all fucking time if so.

Goddamn

Uhhhh

Did we play the same Star Fox?
I played some of Adventures and it was bleh, but ED and Rogue Leader were the shit. After adding those three to my list I wouldn't even blame Nintendo for treating gamers like second class citizens. The GC deserved so much more...

Strange that no one said it so far, but okay, I'll do it.

Wii U scarce lineup?
Nintendo: My body is not ready

Where the fuck is Devil Survivor? I was confirmed a month or two that we were finally going to get it!

US lineup. Not EU.

@liger05: the same. Yesterday a European PR came out confirming the February, 8th European release for the game.

The GBA linking was ahead of its time and led to gameplay that the WiiU provides now.

It failed because N64 backlash and idiots. There were plenty of "mature" games and there was a decent amount of 3rd party games as well, even multiplatform games.

If you want to play mature games but can't handle your console being a cube with a handle, something tells me the problem is neither the games nor the console. Black launched simultaneously with purple btw.

Part of me gets this horrible feeling that Nintendo actually thinks the Wii U lineup is amazing and they don't need to do anything for a while.
holy FUCK

no Wii U games at all

There is rayman and monster hunter.

Target has a buy 2 get 1 free sale on Wii U games right now

Games like Batman, Scribblenauts, Ninja Gaiden, Tekken Tag, and various sports games are $45

Sonic Racing is $39.99

You could do a package like Batman, Scribblenauts, and Tekken for $90 (plus tax)

Not bad. It comes out to a little over $30 per game.

I fully agree on ED and Star Wars being terrific but yea about that Star Fox game.....

Seriously can't believe we haven't gotten a real one since N64 ; ;
