Nintendo Smartphone Concept Exclusive: 3D render Video

I dislike how people think that Nintendo making a phone would solve all their problems (even the onesthey don't have, but people want to believe they have). Look at this. It looks terrible.

Actually, the video presents all absurdly high specs, which probably is one of the most hilarious parts of it

It would probably be easier to release a phone with high specs due to price of the average smart phone. Either way Nintendo obviously wouldn't be able to pull it off as currently instructed. They would need to bring in a big wig who knows a lot about the industry and it would be dumb of them to make a custom OS over Android.

This will live nicely on the shelf next to my region free 3DS and Nintendo On...

That said, I wonder what T3 think the Ps4 should look like?

I like the concept, but can't trust Nintendo with the OS. If it was android base, I would be very intrigued and would most likely purchase the product. Attachable gamepad is also a plus, obviously.

I was all like, "yo birds what's the point?" till they busted out that gamepad add on then I was like "yeah bitches now that's the money shot"

A phone that based on gaming first feels wrong.

iPhone successful because it is social first, gaming second. Gaming is there to make something that is essential (social) to become more fun (connect gaming with your social network)

Monster Hunter? Day one.

But yeah, Nintendo should make their own smartphone next-gen. Iwata said the company has been studyind the technology or something.

Of course, the OS would be garbage, but still functional.

Deciding to enter Apple's market is unparalleled stupidity.

Nintendo has the software, but the hardware rivalry is so much unnecessary baggage. They get away with it against Sony and MS because they're busy trying to take each other out.

Nintendo can barely scrap together a good operating system for its console, I'd hate to see what they would come up with on a phone

Nintendo would be dumb not go go with android for various reasons. They would just have to use exclusive apps to make it seem more Nintendo like.

This would be a stupid idea. Nintendo has no experience with smartphones, they cannot even create a modern console OS. And who'd actually want a Nintendo phone outside of some gamers? Even they may prefer Android and iOS which see much more support.

Did I say it's a stupid idea? I guess Iwata just approved the Nintendo smartphone.

Why would a Wii U in a different form factor be any better off than the Wii U that already exists?

I like how their "3D rendering machine" did all that work, btw.

Lets say you have a 8 year old that you want to get a phone for. Are you going to shell out $700 for an iPhone or $300 (free on contract) for a Nintendo one?

The youth cell market is going to explode. My 2 year old plays games on my and my wifes iPhone. We are not the only couple that does that. I see it everywhere I go. The mall, restaurants, on planes, trains, ferrys, etc.

The idea is for a phone that caters to 14 and below. Not some cutting edge kit for 30 year olds who would never make a Nintendo branded anything their mainline.

I like the specs and it's a good concept, but like others have said, it has to have buttons included in the phone for gaming. With those specs, they could also release a tablet that wouldn't be much different in design from the Wii U gamepad so both systems would share the same library. Heck, with those kind of specs they could potentially use it in their next console as well. Here are some design ideas I think they should look to for inspiration:

Cell Phone/Portable -

Either use a slide screen with the buttons underneath or keep the clam shell design with a rotatable screen with the buttons underneath.

Tablet -

The gamepad is pretty much the perfect gaming tablet imo. Nothing needs to change here.

Console -

If they're using the same specs for all three, they could have an inexpensive, very small, power efficient console. They would have to drop disc support and go back to cartridges as well as putting a bigger HDD in there. The design of Ouya is more a concept idea than a physical one, but the idea is that they're going after the Roku/Apple TV market with the ability to also play games. The game controller would also have to have a touchpad or mini touch screen added to it for games that require it. A Wii remote might also be bundled for navigation of the system OS as well.

This is one idea I think Nintendo could pursue going forward. I call it the "Hybrid Route" but it's really just three systems, all with the same specs. This way, Nintendo's internal resources aren't spread so thin and they likely won't run into the third party problems that have plagued their consoles since the N64. Of course, this would require other, drastic changes to the workings of Nintendo all together, like their online network and account management system.

Well a Nintendo phone is the next logical step in 5 years really, I would get one (assuming it had normal buttons unlike in that video).

Why do people think this?

Nintendo's main system in 2013 has a 240p screen and you people want to see Nintendo competing in a market that revolves around high-specs and yearly hardware releases.

I can only imagine Nintendo smartphone to be exactly the same shape as 3DS but with touchscreen slapped on top of the top cover.

There's some sense to it. However. If Nintendo can't make "family friendly, affordable" work on a console, why would it be different for a phone?

Given that "family friendly and affordable" have been construed as "kiddy and cheap" for years, I don't think the portable/console distinction applies.

I do think Nintendo could probably release a >$100 Gameboy-style device that plays downloadable new/VC games, but phone capability isn't worth Apple's ire.

It would be smart because it could still be a system for gamers, whilst also interesting those who think a phone is enough for them for everything on the go.

They would probably be able to get away with charging higher prices(which would allow for better tech) in the smartphone business due to contracts.
