Another news!
Base Switch version outsold lite version greatly in the last quarter of sales.

7.58M for Base Switch
3.24m for Lite SKU

Bad news for next gen consoles they're competing against juggernaut like Switch and not the WiiU this time around.

Sony won't have the advantage of facing off against that botched Xbox One launch. I think the PS5 will do better than the SEX, it might even do better than the Switch or PS4. But they won't have the momentum of their main competitor fucking up as hard as they did in the past gen.

Waters wet, one is nearing the end of its life cycle and the other is not even 3 years old and was cheaper compared to the other đź‘€.

Youre making it sound like the switch wont hit sales fatigue a few years from now. This isnt comparing the last three years directly but the switch's first three years vs the ps4's first three years. And its still a very comparable sales figure (by march im sure the switch will hit around 53.5-54 vs the ps4's 50 mil)

The problem for Nintendo though is that the Switch isn't just replacing the Wii U, it's replacing the Wii U and the 3DS

I mean, yeah, Sony went from 80 million PSPs to what, 5 million Vitas (probably being charitable) to nothing as they also exited the handheld market, but that was always a sideline, while handhelds were almost Nintendo's main focus

Until next quarter when PS4 up to 57.1m.

Every somebody write an article in January about that.

Would that make you feel better? :messenger_crying:

OT: Crazy crazy turnaround for Nintendo. But for some reason I don't feel Switch is really talked about that much. Is it mainly kids buying it? Would be good for Nintendo.

you have to consider the PS4 is more expensive the Switch

If youre selling a $400 and $200 and they re selling at the same pace then the former should be considered to be a more succesfull product

Next year is going to be crucial to continued success.

I'm of the belief that Nintendo's product will do just fine, but time will tell.

Somehow the portable Switch and the Xbox 2001 have a lot in common. Without a systemseller, it would have sold less or even D.O.A on release. Most of the games just don´t appeal majority, and except for Mario, Zelda, Metroid (out yet?) ... nothing there imho.

Anyway you dont get any refunds, after reading this post! #norefund #winkwonk

Consoles are dead confirmed, the Series X and PS5 will be the last of them, and they may only be on the market for a couple years. Expect no more than 10 million sold for each as console gaming is replaced by mobile and streaming.

Wait, didn't we do this in 2013? ;)

All good, hopefully the market expands with the upcoming generation (all parties incl.) by building on-top of current success(es).
In a way it's rather exciting, you have a more capable device for your gaming on the go needs plus at home and potentially more powerful* console(s) for those that seek just that.

The Switch is a tremendous console. Now that it has Civ, its the only one I play games on. It may outsell the Wii in a few years if it has compelling software.

Can we please stop the switch spam. there are now multiple switch topics all related to sale numbers.. can they all be merged or something.

Unfortunately we will see a massive drop in numbers of switch sold this year. Current gen should give the switch at least a year of life with developers not wanting to abandon the large ps4 install base. I guess the Switch 2 will release in winter of 2022 or Spring of 2023 unless this Switch Pro changes everything.

A nintendo hand held console is selling like hot cakes. Who would've thought. Extremely surprising. I sure af didn't see that coming.

So? They aren't even the same thing and not even in competition with each other. Two different sides of the gaming .market
It's still entertainment. I'd say they're all competing in good consideration.

Surprised how close it is, given that PS4's price was higher for 34 months on the dot.

I mean after Wii U many people thought all future Nntendo consoles would have sold more than 10-20 mln. So it is surprising the other way around too.

I'm not intending on making it sound that way and I never said that they weren't comparable, I did, however point out that there is many different aspects in that lead to the two selling similar amounts of units.

The OP makes it seem like both systems were on equal footing and that is far from the truth.

That's a brand new delusional rationalization friend, you guys are really outdoing yourselves. I've seen "PS4 is at the end of its life cycle", I've seen "Switch is a handheld and therefore it doesn't count", but "PS4 is more expensive than the Switch and that's why it's more successful" is an interesting spin. It might make even less sense than the others.

Nintendo are kind of their own thing though for me. Its like if the Switch had 90% of the same games on it, like PS4/XB1, then it would be a fair comparison, but it has a mostly unique set of games, and is a handheld. Its a different market imo, and is not competing in the same market as Xbox and Playstation.
The Switch for me is a bit like the PC where you will have some PC gamers who also own a console, or a console owner who also owns a Switch. I doubt there are millions of people who soley own a Switch, i bet most Switch owners own a PS4 or XB1 as well.

I just can't see how switch can maintain this momentum.

Nintendo has launched all of its popular franchises, has very little 3rd party support in terms of the latest games, launched when PS4 and Xbox were wrapping up their cycle... Not to mention they will face the onslaught of the new hotness when the next gen launches this year...

switch will fade going into 2021 — prompting the launch of switch 2. And no number of no name indie developers can tell me otherwise.:messenger_expressionless:

There are some errors.

First you are using sold though to PS4 and Shipment to Switch.

Second 52.48m shipment for Switch is 34 months.

Switch shipment 34 months: 52.48m
PS4 shipment 35 months: 47.4m
Switch shipment 37 months: ?
PS4 shipment 38 months: 57.1m

So you will never get months aligned but you can align quarters:

Switch shipment 12 quarters: 52.4m
PS4 shipment 12 quarters: 47.4m

Switch shipment 13 quarters: ?
PS4 shipment 13 quarters: 57.1m

At end of next quarter PS4 is ahead until probably September when Switch took the lead again.

Im curious if the Switch sales are actually a bit deceiving. I have 3 Switches in my household. The Switch possibly doesn't have the market penetration one would think from sales alone.

Calm down mate no need to get angry yet

just using some simple logic here

If a $50,000 Mercedes car manage to pull the same number as a $18,000 Toyota in the same lifespan than that should be seen as a good achievment by the former car

I mean, the only relevant metric this would relate to is software sales, and Switch software sales are amazing, totally compatible with its hardware sales.

The Switch will also be missing a lot of the biggest 3rd party games this year like Resident Evil 3 remake, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 7, Elden Ring, etc

This is very impressive, especially after the Wii U disaster.

I have way more games on PS4 than Switch because I only buy exclusives on it, but it is a very nice console.

I only use it docked though, I really bought it for its games and not because of the fact that this is a hybrid console.

1. Ridiculous form factor that won't fit into 99% of home entertainment centres.
2. No exclusive games.
3. Absurd console name leading to consumer confusion
4. I'm gonna say it again....NO EXCLUSIVES?!
5. Game Pass is a breeding ground for mediocre games.
6. Phil Spencer

If you think the Xbox One launch was botched, well strap in brother, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Not angry friend, your logic sucks though. Going by your example, if the Mercedes costs $49,000 to manufacture and the Toyota costs $10,000, does that STILL validate your point? Or when the Gamecube was making more money than the PS2 despite being grossly outsold by it, was that also more impressive?

Fair enough lol but I still think the Xbox One was more fucked up when it launched.
