Nintendo WiiU is the worst next-gen console

All 3 have their place. I find it difficult to "rank" them. I mean, from a purely technical standpoint? I'd take a PS4. But that would be like ranking the best pair of jeans based on the quality of the denim and disregarding fit, price, type of fly, etc...

And right now, the Wii U is a slim fit dark wash that makes my ass look amazing.

Don't fuck with Nintendo fans. :p

The console is terrible, very poor design. The non game software is also poorly designed and slow, like most Japanese ui/os stuff. They do make a certain kind of game that inspires devotion though so there is that.

I love it when people get angry at Nintendo. It usually means they are on the right track.
If Nintendo is doomed people make fun of them. Angry reactions only happen if they doing stuff right. ^^

Is this your justification for the system having no third party support? What if I didn't like Sony exclusives - I shouldn't buy a PS4 for all the great multiplatforms?

Well...no. You should spend a little extra money to build a decent PC, and recoup the difference from the multiple sales PC games get compared to the console ports

People always act as if it's so clear that WiiU has the best lineup.

I'll take Xbox1's lineup over any other atm. Titanfall, Dragon Age, Dead Rising, COD, Evil Within, Wolfenstein, etc is much more appealing to me than Mario, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, and Smash. I can't be the only one, either.
Yeah, I play mostly on the PS4 at this point. The Wii U's alright but nothing's got its hooks into me like numerous PS4 games have. I tend to play Smash, Mario Kart and all the rest for half an hour here or there, something like Diablo 3 or Dragon Age has me for entire evenings.

Nintendo has the superior first party output but the PS4's had more games this year that I've enjoyed, whether that's first or third party. I'm not gonna discount third party games from the discussion because all of those studios can't be bothered with one of the platforms. The argument "well if you want third parties you should build a PC" is fine but that's less of a Wii U vs. PS4 vs. Xbox One argument and more of a PC vs. PS4 vs. Xbox One argument. If Wii U wants some involvement it needs a tag team partner.

I meant that it's been a while since Nintendo consoles have had great third party support. They're best used as machines to access Nintendo games in my opinion. If you don't like Nintendo games you'd be much better off spending a bit more and getting an XB1 or PS4.

one particular argument that i find perplexing is the idea that having the most exclusives means having the best game library (objectively speaking).

if i were recommending a "gaming system" with the best library id recommend something like this:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8527/gigabyte-brix-gaming-bxi5g760-review

it has the least exclusives but by far the best variety of well reviewed games for amazing prices. and that to me is what makes a good library for a primary system. if you want a good secondary system, dont mind the hardware issues, and like nintendo/platinum games, then i wouldn't mind recommending a wiiu.

Pretty much agree on every point. The Wii U is awful and anyone trying to say different comes off as fan boyish to me. Or at best ignorant.

It always amazes me how annoyed some people get at the thought of others actually enjoying the types of experiences Nintendo offers.

This is hilarious.

You stated loads of reasons and almost none of them are about games, which is why people are praising it. The games are absolutely fantastic. Chat can be done via Skype on your laptop or phone, and third parties are available on PC/PS4/XBO.

It's the only one of the 3 that i have bought and i plan on keeping it that way (the rare games on xbone or PS4 i want to play i can try on my brothers consoles). At this point wii U/PC feels like the way to go for me.

Also as a new wii U owner i must say that off screen play has turned out to be way more useful and awesome than i ever thought it would be.

To be fair Zelda currently has my curriosity, but Starfox definitely has my attention.

Other than that, I agree with the other points and it's what keeps me from buying one yet. They are asking a lot of money for a flawed console, whose games are also the most expensive.

If you were to poll kids, various ages, what they most wanted for Christmas, how many would say a Nintendo console? Compare that to years ago.

It may not be the worst console, but it sure doesn't have the kids imagination and desire to play one like Nintendo used to have.

Not better than the first one though. (*<

I think it clearly is and I know I'm not alone in this. It's a better game overall.

But yes, I don't think anyone with decent time to game throughout the entire year would be satisfied with only a Wii U, I wouldn't and that's why I have a PC and love it to death, the thing is, usually the best games that I play are on a Nintendo console. I would never trade my PC for it but I wouldn't want to not have a Wii U as well.

Its simply the reality of the situation. last gen, current gen, and probably next gen for Nintendo they will probably be struggling with getting third party to put their games on their system so if your big into AAA third party games a Nintendo console is not the console for you.

Lol. Opinions, I know, but how good a console is depends on how good the games are, for me. And the WiiU has the best games by far.

Mario Kart 8
Super Mario World
Bayonetta 2
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Xenoblade X
Zelda

The list goes on.

...And? It's not on Wii U. That's all that matters.

Several gaffers already have PCs that can perform at adequate level for games if they are hopping in to the current generation.
Honestly, if you don't have a gaming PC but are trying to hop into the current generation, you should really try to get a PC first. Getting one that can adequately perform as well as a PS4 isn't much more expensive than a PS4 and the difference is usually covered by Steam sales

Lol.

Different tastes = Fanboy or at best ignorant!

The only thing ignorant here is this post. We can note the shortcomings of the console while also noting that the games are top notch.

I can agree with this. If you aren't into Nintendo games than trying to main console a wii U is not a realistic scenario. The lack of third party games really kills the wii U for me and many others just by looking at he sales numbers.

So? Does that change it from being the best console lineup in 2014?

I also don't necessarily think WiiU is a good console for all Nintendo fans. I am a Nintendo fan and my favorite franchises are Zelda and Metroid. I will likely buy a Wii U for Zelda, but I don't like how people just say "Wii U has the best lineup" as if it is a fact.

No, but it's a meaningless achievement for those of us who own PCs.

To quote you from another thread...

Some of us like other games than you.

I'm glad I don't live in a state were 2015 doesn't look bad for the Wii U. It may not have a ton of games, but it has several that I'm looking forward to a good deal.

Right, OP, you've listed a bunch of inconsequential "nice-to-haves" and completely ignored the only mandatory factor in console quality: its' current game library. Yeah, it would be nice if they enabled party chat and fixed their account system. Missing third party multiplats sucks. "2015 looks bad to me"; if you say so, most here disagree.

But who gives a crap about any of that when you're playing the best exclusive library since the SNES, on your Wii U? Ideally you'd want one box that has the best of first and third party games, but when has that ever happened in previous generations? Never, each box is always missing something, be it first or third party.

So: Wii U with its' lineup of outstanding, progressive iterations of great franchises that get refreshed once a generation, or rushed and consequently broken retreads of annualized third party franchises? There are some cool games on the other boxes that I'd like to try out (Wolfenstein, Mordor, Sunset Overdrive), but they don't hold a candle to Wii U's library, IMO.

I think you're overestimating the number of PC gamers on GAF. The crowd is small, but passionate. Much like the Wii U, or Vita.

But this is a separate argument. It still doesn't discredit his original point that, to him, 2014 was stronger on the Xbox One than the Wii U, which was the point.

It absolutely is backwards and completely stationary on things it shouldn't be. I agree, as a console, it is the worst.

But at the moment I feel like it has the library of the three that most satisfies me, certainly the best of the year. I mean, aside from PC, because no one can touch that.

Gah these threads are cock measuring contests to proclaim one system as better than another based off of their assessment of exclusive games and whether they are of better quality and abundance than a competitor's exclusives.

Well yeah that's been the case for a while now. If you don't like Nintendo games, don't get a Nintendo console. I don't think you'll find anyone trying to argue the opposite

It does have the best games, but the Wii U could be so much more than just a barrier between people and the games. I don't think many people like the Wii U as a console, but they tolerate it because of the games.

OP does have somewhat of a point in that the 2015 lineup is nowhere near as strong as it's 2014 offerings. It's difficult to compete with Smash + Kart and Bayonetta 2.

OP, is there a reason to buy the "worse" console? You should own a PS4 and a Xbone I guess. Or else Nintendo did a "good enough" console.

How far back u goin tho? When I was a kid u had two options, sega or nintendo. Kids these days have more options and ninty has more comp. it's great games all around if u ask me.

Nothing is quicker than the plug and play nature of the home-consoles. Also you can get games just as cheaply as you would steam ( gamestop, amazon, craiglist, game trading with friends, etc.) This is also pointless if you are interested in laptops since no 400 dollar laptop will come close to what a PS4 can do..
