Well we all know 360's are probably the most unreliable console machines ever made...unless we're talking about Window's ME loaded PC's but that a different story.:lol

MS are not good at hardware basically...

Nintendo on the other hand...rock at software and hardware. Thus you should have no worry...and if worse comes to worse...Nintendo has excellent customer service...

That's true but in that sense then they probly shouldn't have the bought the system in the first place either and just waited.

It's like the people who bought the 360 at launch and sold them 3-6 months after the system came out because it had no games. Then rebought the system when Gears of War came out. I'd rather spend the $400 once.

I just bought the thing and was thinking EB would be offering a great price for it. It costs 400 to buy a pro. Guess what EB is offering? I know, they are the devil and Ebay is probably the way to go. But for those not interested in getting an Ebay account, a Pay Pal account, sending it off, ebay and paypal taking a chunk of the profit, EB is the way to go.

Those ****s 'offered' 130 bucks for a $400 console. It makes no sense.

See I have 2 nintendo Wii's one upstairs and one downstairs in TV room, well my sons went on the blink, I swapped it for a new one at the store only to find out none of my game even showed up, the internet channel had to be bought now, and I had to spend about 150.00 in VC games once again.

Nintendo said sorry the license clearly reads that the games are tied to THAT individe to buy them again!

I am not happy with that thingsbreak and Im sure sometime soon we will hear about a lawsuit from someone who spent 1000 on VC games only to be told suck it up again once the Wii breaks in a few years..

- They should go to a Steam-like system, but you shouldn't assume everything is like Steam and not read the terms of service before you buy VC games.
- They will replace your games if your Wii dies and you send in a console to them. They have no way of tracking consoles you just returned to a department store.

Heh, I'm glad your world is so perfect! The reason I'm on my third PS2 is that, as a freelancer, my income can go up and down really quickly. One year I'll have tons of money, the next, I need to sell my toys to pay the electric bill. When they shut off the power, it's not too useful, anyway.

Unfortunately for you, the problem was that you went and swapped that Wii for a new one from the store. If you had sent it in to Nintendo to be repaired, or if a repair was impossible, they would then have moved all the data from that Wii to a new one; meaning you would have had all your games intact on a new Wii at no cost to you.

Actually if you read the Wii instruction manual it says you don't own the titles. Nintendo licenses the games to you but does not grant you ownership. It's right there in the booklet dude. Sorry.

the problem is, if you pay with a CC, the account doesn't expire, it auto-renews.

and that's where people start having problems.

my friend had to do this because he no longer had the credit card he originally used for gold.

once he changed it, it started accepting pre-payed cards.

Oh, well it shouldn't be a problem then. Your old account transfers to your Xbox 360, your Xbox 360 account stays active until it runs out, and even then I think it self-renews if you tied a credit card to it.

But the account will only revert to Silver after expiration of a code or non-payment. Otherwise, you're gold (pun intended).

Eh... after my gold account expired, it just locked me out of LIVE until I renewed... wouldn't give me the option to downgrade to silver either, it was renew my gold account or nothing. :/

No, I didn't renew... and it just locked me out of LIVE/marketplace until I would renew. There was no option to convert to a silver account at *any* time.

I haven't has any expiereince with sony's system of downloads so i can't comment, but the way MS and Nintendo handle them really sucks, it's a travisty. When the wii2 or xbox 720 roll out i'm sure it's going to be a nightmare to get everything you bought back, if it'll be possible at all.

STEAM does it right. I didn't play halfife for years and years, and a while ago i just logged into steam and downloaded the game i bought 7 years ago without any problem.

Seriously. I'm with the Dragona camp on this one: next-gen sucks. Instead of applying the well-thought-out Steam approach to downloadable content, MS and Nintendo are both using it as an excuse to take away important choices that users have with physical media games, and applying an outdated customer service model to dealing with the fallout.

Someone please tell me that at least Sony deals with this stuff in a moderately customer-friendly way?

You essentially sell your VC games with the Wii, you should have asked for a price equal to your Wii plus the VC games (if you gave it to Gamestop or the like then you're an idiot). Think of it as a physical copy where this copy is one in the same with your Wii.

Also, I'm constantly surprised that people are this ignorant. Your Wii came with a paper insert that says to not return your Wii to the store and to only use Nintendo to service it because the data is non-replacable. In short, RTFM.

You've got options:

1. Pay for Nintendo's VC service, which tells you up front that you don't own shit and that you're paying for a license to play the game on that particular Wii.

2. Play the game on the original hardware.

3. Format shift the game under your own power.

I then went through the process of removing my log on info from the Wii and guess what? It deletes every purchase of VC games from the console. No way to keep what you paid for and transfer it to a new user. Only you have the right to play the games YOU paid for.

No way to recover those purchases either if at some point I decide to buy another Wii. Just a warning for you that the VC is even worse than a ROM dump, because you cant keep what you pay for.

I've had the same account nonstop since 2002, which is why I have to ask.

One account, one console FTW. Unless you have a defective console, of course. I've had my Xbox account since the beginning. I went through four 360's but still have all of my downloads no problem. My Wii is still going strong... have a bunch of Turborgrafix 16 and N64 games on there, no problem.

If my Wii goes and I have to pay for my VC stuff all again, I'll raise hell, though. It does seem that Nintendo isn't as forgiving as MS downloads, from some of these comments.

I'm sorry but you're just wrong. I just had my Wii replaced and when I went onto VC to get them again I had the option to "redownload", not costing me a cent.

If you don't agree with piracy than you wouldn't be looking into it and if you do your convictions suck or you suck at following them.

As long as you deal straight with Nintendo for repairs, warranty or not, you will not have to re buy them. If you bought a store warranty than that is not their problem not to mention that they are a waste of money.

Good to hear. I have no problem dealing with Nintendo directly, should I have to. I understand that some people would rather just buy a new Wii if their kid decides to play with it as a submarine in the bathtub or whatever, since it's quicker. But if they're eBaying shit, then **** 'em. Still, it shouldn't be so difficult to hold on to the games you purchased, whether it be online or not.

The only company who have got their DRM right has been Sony.

My Xbox 360 broke down and I got it replaced. Now I can't play the stuff my brother has bought from marketplace on my profile without logging in with his. There's a huge thread about this on the xbox help forums where many people have complained but it looks like Microsoft won't do anything until it becomes a huge problem.

They have to fix it.
