No Man's Sky "Path Finder" Content Update announced

Dammit, I was hoping to stick to Horizon for a few more days, but I really want to check out this update.

Just bopping around with dune buggy physics on the various terrains of different worlds will be fun by itself. What they need to do now is expand the Sentinel types to include wheeled vehicles that chase after you across the surface and it could be like I'm playing Smuggler's Run all over again.

If they can ever figure out a way to make the worlds spectacular (like the early trailers) then they will have truly fulfilled the vision of the game.

I haven't kept up to date with the game, but did they change (or add the option) for the game not to basically autopilot for you while in atmosphere? I hated that you didn't have complete freedom to fly how you want in the atmosphere like the game was afraid that the player would crash.

Just read the update notes and kudos to the amount of stuff they've put in there.

Temps me to restart on survival mode and see how it plays now with all of the qol improvements and content.

Thank gods, hopefully this means trading should be more efficient:
NPC interaction text now appears faster, and can now be skipped.

hmmm...does this mean what I hope it means?
Atmospheric low-flight has been adjusted and improved

Finally I can name my ships after obscure guitars
Ships, weapons, vehicles, freighters and bases can now all be renamed.

Oh, the lack of visible rain from indoors bugged me. Glad to see this fixed!
More detailed rain system, including room dependent and indoor window rain

And for those 65dos fans
Our favorite band 65daysofstatic has been back in the studio recording 8 new soundscapes for in-game, as well as lots of new loading music.

So many changes and improvements. Some of the ones I'm happiest about:

- Use the enormous hanger in your Freighter to purchase and store your own collection of starships.
- Each starship has a specialisation (Shuttle, Fighter, Hauler or Science) that improves performance in specific areas.
- When purchasing a new ship, you’ll now be given the option to trade in your current ship for a discount.
- New traders have been added to space stations and bases, as well as a new currency
- Your standing with the three NPC factions is now more important, as traders will only sell the best technology to their closest allies
- Previously visited planets can be marked with Waypoints, simplifying return navigation
- NPC interaction text now appears faster, and can now be skipped.
- Ships, weapons, vehicles, freighters and bases can now all be renamed.
- Long-clicks have been removed in many menus places to allow for faster interface navigation
- Clearer and more detailed multitool, ship and freighter comparison screen

Looking forward to hopping back on after Horizon.

I haven't even installed the original patch but with this one I'm going back in.

Mechanical roaming and PS4 Pro support. Glorious.

Two really impressive content updates for this game. A few more of these could leave the game in a truly great place.

I didn't play the foundation update but I think I'll start up a new game once this is live. One question on vehicles though, it sounded like you can only have one on your home planet. Is that what you guys gathered as well?

For someone who hops planets and systems, are vehicles not going to be a big deal?

I stopped playing about a month or so after release, clocked in over 50 hours (I liked it...)

I know since there has been a base building patch, and now this pathfinder patch (out today?). If I load up my old save will I have access to both (base building & pathfinder?) and would be able to enjoy the new content by resuming my game exactly where I left off... or are these separate game modes from the original....?

I would hate to start over as I left the game with millions of credits, decked out ship, decked out multitool, and a shit ton of resources....

HG certainly seem to be taking baby steps to multiplayer, but will the engine allow it? Between some of the massive changes to the game and engine between foundation and now with path finder, it certainly seems as though the engine is flexible. MP is another story though.

PS4 updating now (had to check for update) 5.19gb

Not sure if it's doubling the size of the game, or just replacing the entire thing.

Does each lift-off still takes like 1/4 of your fuel bar when playing? That things annoyed me a lot when I played it.

Your pre-Foundation save will still be there. (your planet will probably look very different though) The "Normal" mode will continue that save. The other two modes start new, separate game saves.

Yes, your old save file will be under "normal" mode.
Surivor, permadeath and creator modes have different save slots. In those you'll start from zero.
You can build your base, own a freighter, etc. in all modes. It'll probably be the same with this update.

Note that, because the terrain generation algorhythm changed with the Foundation Update, the planets you visited will probably be different. And because of this, you'll spawn in the local space station.

Hey everyone,

Just to let you know the Steam build will be coming a little later. I will keep you updated, and will shout as soon as it's ready to grab. :)

Waiting for a 'Civilisation' patch, I recall pre-release screenshots of what looked like proper ruins or leftovers of ancient civilisations

From what I gathered from reviews and gameplay vids on youtube, the variety in landscapes seemed very underwhelming. Is this improved in either of the updates?
The thought of amazing alien worlds was what attracted me before release.

The Foundation update changed up the planetary generation a bit.

Tempted to bite on this on PC now that it seems like it has a sufficient amount of content to keep me occupied.

EDIT: Eww it's still $60 on Steam. 🤢
Maybe not yet lol.

The faction stuff is nice but imo it won't really make an impact until currying the favour of one faction will aggro another, but evidently they don't want players fighting the sentient aliens for whatever reason.

The last update changed it a bit. They also fixed the contrast and color tone which, from screenshots, makes it look more vibrant and less filtered. I imagine that will help significantly with the feel of the worlds.

You've got to remember just how many planets there are. Even 20-30 hours in I'd occasionally find a planet that would totally wow me. You just have a high chance of encountering less interesting ones.

I still lament the fact that planets don't get weirder towards the center. That literally would have fixed the game for me.

This was somewhat true in 1.0, but the Foundation update overhauled the procgen system and the geological variety and complexity of planets is at times stunning. In 1.0 I could "see" the algorithms at work after a while, but now things really look unique.

I would say biodiversity is still the main thing that suffers, and I don't see anything in this update that addresses it yet. Hopefully that's coming.

Before the release of the game they were talking about a potential pro patch, is there any news?

edit: ignore my post, I didn't see the patch notes. I'm glad to see all these changes.

This is a hefty update. I'm happy with almost everything packed, but the wording of planetary vehicles make it sound they're tethered to home planets. Considering I don't move my base very often, this means I won't take full advantage of vehicles. Tbh, I mostly need them to explore foreign planets. But I'll wait and see how all of these changes come into play.

It would be sick if you could fly your freighter to a solar system and launch your planetary vehicles from your freighter onto a planet (cargo drop style).

Permadeath, here I come!

I love that they're still releasing massive updates with even more to come. The launch was rocky and littered with drama and death threats, but I'll be damned if they're not powering through it all and finally making what could be the game we all imagined.
