No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

They made me pre-order the game.

Made me pre-order the game sooo.... :b

Definitely more.

It's a way of having the game early, since it's guaranteed I will never ever see those same planets again.

More excited, but really it just reaffirmed to me that this is the game that was presented all along and that is what I wanted.

More. Every time I watch a stream I see something new that gets me a bit more excited.

More and less. It looks as I was expecting except the things cut make it look really easy and I'm not sure there's as much to drive me to explore as there used to be.

Awesome. Pre-ordering now...

What was cut?

Having to make it to beacons and losing your ship (getting a basic ship) if you died in space, apparently.

Environments look super easy to survive in as well. I watched a stream last night where the guy ran out of life support and just ignored it for several minutes because it wasn't killing him very fast.

Yeah I've been watching the game for probably 15+ hours. I cannot fucking wait to play it, I'm so much more hyped. I almost forgot the game was coming out until I saw the first stream.

Now I'm trying to figure out how everything works without playing, and wanting to play so much differently than anyone else I've seen so far.

Not sure about the ships, but I did see one planet on a stream have intense cold that took life support away quicker than on a moderate planet.

Wouldn't this like...vary depending on the environment? There's how many planets with how many environments? Seems like a weird one thing to fixate on. The original 30 minute video the guy had to re-up his life support like 4 times in the half hour because it was taking so much.

Also I thought Sean Murray originally said it would take hours to get off your first planet. Most streams I've seen it's been a matter of minutes.

I just feel like they've taken a lot of the challenge out of the game, but maybe not and maybe that'll be part of the balancing in the patch they mentioned.

It might and that would be a good thing. I'll go back and watch that one, thanks.

Haven't been watching much, has there been many aggressive wildlife? Most I've seen has been docile.

Didn't mean to come off as dickish, just thought it was a weird thing to take from one stream and one planet.

Yes. One planet was getting pretty nasty with 100°C temps. It seemed to be a hard limit though. Some speculation that limit may be changed in further galaxies. Pure, utter speculation though. But if things can get more extreme, but haven't yet, it may explain why there's life nearly everywhere. Maybe outside of the -100 to 100 range life is largely impossible?

Ok, enough with the dumb speculation... :P

My God. DM21Gaming's live podcast just posed the theory Daymeeuhn was a covert PR exercise by Hello Games...

Just stop.

Stop.

Please.

Didn't you need different suit upgrades at one time to even explore certain planets? Or am I remembering wrong? I could've swore that was said in an interview.

That may be the first bummer I've come across honestly. You'd think shit would be dangerous as fuck on random as planets. Not just the environment.
I've seen a few. They are even aggressive in different ways. There was one stream, where it was the first time we saw a streamer find and repair a downed ship that I saw a medium sized... Thing slowly step up to the player, and there was an icon for it, indicating it's aggressive intent. The player just left.

Another time on a weird radioactive Moon, a rhino looking motherfucker knocked him into the water me I've seen a bunch of other things too

Well the first stream I saw, the jumping pineapple bit the player then ran away and glitched out, lol.

"Microsoft don't do this shit."

Dude come on...

This has to be this kind of stream? Also I'm pretty sure people were getting box banned back in 360 days for some early releases.

Ok, that's cool then. Hope its not a rarity though.

Yes you do. As well as on top of that you can just buff your cooling or heating, so I guess thats the same.

One big theory is that the consecutive galaxies get weirder and wilder, with potentially more range in temperature among other things.

Or, we just haven't seen anything too crazy because we've only seen 100 planets or so between all streamers. The crazy ones could be 1/500

Has anyone seen an ocean planet yet?

Yes.

He seems cool, friendly too. Tiggles is cool but he does like to smack down people.

Also,

This is the 1.6k guys starting planet.

Yeh, meant nothing towards the kid. Also, his starting planet contained some stuff I hadn't seen in the almost 12 hours of streams I've watched so far. It was a base overtaken by some red slime looking stuff there were also carnivorous plants on the inside hurting him as well.

This game's got some stuff I tell ya what.

Link to his stream by the way

Is it still coming Aug 9th for PC in U.S.? (At least Steam still lists that) I know there was some confusion that it may come out on the 12th.

If Steam says the 9th you'll (probably) get it on the 9th. Seems like its a usual staggered launch, UK and europe 10th, Aus (where I am) on the 11th and the rest on the 12th. If that changed to the 12th for everyone this close, oh boy.

It seems like the 12th for PC. I'd go in with that expectation, and if it's the 9th, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Sony seems to have an agreement with Hello Games about pushing the PS4 version, and staying mum on the PC version until, I imagine, the PS4 version releases.

Steam still says the 9th, but I wouldn't put too much faith in that either. It's possible they haven't updated the storefront yet.

Ehhhh, yes and no. Immersion is very important, believability can help with that, but we throw that shit out the window with the right execution. Like... Nothing about zombies is believable, but a good zombie game can be baller, and no one asks what the zombie doctor is doing to heal his patients, because who cares.

That's not to say realism doesn't matter, but realism is just a means to an end.
What's there, that is hard to believe? It still is a pretty coherent (from what I've seen in streams) fantasy-universe (or alternative-reality universe).

Life in a -70C environment? Could be ammonia-based life, which could be a substitute for water in a similar biochemistry.

I know though that seeing what are clearly pine-trees in such an environment breaks the suspension of disbelief a little xD

EDIT: Divky is still streaming.
I was just pointing it out.

Apply the same logic to all the mishmash species in the game as well then.
I did criticize one of the aliens a while back that didn't seem like it evolved naturally as it looked like the game's algorithm for alien generation messed up a little bit.

I've seen a decent amount of screenshots and a minimal amount of video footage from the streams. Just want to ask, did anyone find any planets as vibrant and colorful as these?

I haven't seen much of what's out there from the leaks it seems, but everything I have seen seems noticeably more muted in tone.

My one and only remaining concern based off of the streams is that the game will just be too easy. Toxic planets, hot planets, cold planets, etc don't really seem very threatening, nor does alien wildlife. This is definitely the kind of game where I want to land somewhere and be forced to run away with my tail between my legs, only to come back stronger and ready to claim its resources and secrets.

Those are definitely cherry picked, we haven't seen MUCH that is exactly like any of those in particular. But based off of the footage, there is absolutely no reason to believe that planets like this don't exist.

In other words, all the pieces are definitely there and those certainly exist somewhere in the universe. As was mentioned in the previews though, most planets are pretty unappealing, colorless, and drab. That's fine though - makes the good ones feel special. And there have been a couple REALLY good ones in the streams.
