I agree! I would also like to add that there isn't really a difference between cold, hot, toxic, etc from what I could tell. You have a spacesuit that has built in environmental protection. The environmental protection works like a stamina bar which can be recharged by burning elements or returning to your ship to refile the environmental protection bar. The rate of damage seems to be related to severity of the environment you are in. I don't know if you need an individual upgrade for each environment type, or if it is handled by one upgrade overall to raise your suits resistance.
This is something else that concerns me. From what I have seen the secrets don't amount to much more than go here and and 'press x' to receive an upgrade, a new word or what have you.
Planet exploration seems to break down to finding these beacons that highlight POIs within a certain radius or maybe even planet wide. Then checking those things out. I feel like it might be interesting to explore the planets at first, but I don't know how long this will keep people's attention. Animal variety seems fine, but animal behaviours seem largely identical. They just kind of roam around mindlessly, and don't really offer anything of value.
Nothing about the gameplay so far suggests that Hello Games spent time making hand crafted experiences for the player that would make these things worth while. The game seems to be constructed out of a number of gameplay systems that create generic experiences. In some ways it kind of looks like the opposite of Shadows of Mordor. A game built around a solid combat mechanic enhanced by the clever use of procedural generation. No Man's Sky seems like a game built around the procedural generation of planets, with some thread bare gameplay mechanics to tie it all together.
Anyway, that's what I've gathered so far. I really want this game to turn out great, but I feel like it just looks to much like a tech demo.
