No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

More and less. It looks as I was expecting except the things cut make it look really easy and I'm not sure there's as much to drive me to explore as there used to be.

Yep. I'm still day 1, and really like the look of the planets. However, I was hoping finding the planets with life would be more rare, and therefore exciting. Barren planets would provide more materials so would have still been worth checking out.

Now the game seems to be perhaps very much less challenging which is a bummer. Still look forward to playing it, but my overall excitement dropped after watching the streams.

Maybe future updates provide more of a challenge though.

My theory is that they're trying to keep 60 FPS so they can use 120Hz reprojection for PSVR.

And I really hope they fix the pop-in for the day 0 patch. What I'm seeing so far is unforgivable! I don't want to hear excuses... If you're going to have pop-in like that, pull IN the fog or use volume-based atmospherics to hide it.

been a while since i read this thread
so do we know if there's a real centre of the universe or it's just a loop into another galaxy that's neverending?

This is definitely the clearest stream I have seen so far. It's super sharp...not streaming at 60 fps though.

He certainly doesn't care much for the game though.

Lol, nope. Seeing as most of the other streams I've seen it's fine having another opinion though. You can tell he doesn't really want to explore.

Streamer isn't super into the game and is raising some good points as to why. The lack of an optional social aspect to go along with the discovery aspect does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity. They say you can see other players eventually but can you really?

Not because of No Man Sky, but this mentality of "buy it for 20 bucks" has to die.

I completely agree. There's nothing wrong with being frugal, but some people take it to the extreme.

It's almost like he doesn't believe in single player experiences. He can't get exited about finding things on his own.

He even said he doesn't like exploring on his own. He also said that when the game releases he'll have nobody watching his stream (his personality or negativity kinda puts me off, so I wouldn't watch), so he'll just stop playing entirely.

The game isn't for everyone and I guess this isn't for him. Doesn't help that his chat also has people calling the game lame, boring, a scam, etc.

Can totally respect his issues with no social aspect. Seems like a perfect match. That's always been my complain with Sean Murray, is that he seems to always want to restrict something for seemingly arbitrary reasons. It's baffling.

I've been watching streams daily, still trying to figure out if this game is for me or not. I suppose I'm confused by the decision to make the universe so enormous, to where coming across anything that acknowledges the existence of another human player is a virtual impossibility. I understand that's more in line with the actual universe, but wouldn't it be so much more interesting/fun if there was a chance that I can actually stumble upon a planet discovered by someone else, or even a small (say 1% chance) I could happen upon another player?

I suppose part of the allure of the game is capturing the isolation that comes with exploring vast galaxies, but I don't think that would be lost if it weren't so, well, incomprehensibly huge...or perhaps this point is entirely moot and it's simply the fact that a small indie team just doesn't have the funding to make the single player player experience they want along with a multiplayer that's anything more than highly unlikely encounters.

Lol. It's his game. Wouldn't Skyrim be awesome if you could play it with friends? Well, that's not the game they wanted to make.

I doubt multiplayer will be completely absent from the game though, since it seems to be most people's problem with the game. Maybe after a few updates but I'm guessing HG is gonna take some time off first.

See, I find the entire concept of making this a big MP thing totally antithetical to the core appeal of the premise: being functionally alone in a vast universe.

I get not everyone can spend 60 bucks on a game (I spent 130 BRL on NMS, wich is a lot here), and would rather wait for a sale down the line or a discount. But too often I see people disregarding years of work from the developer with this blanket statment "lol garbage game will get it on the sales bin".

It's almost like he doesn't believe in single player experiences. He can't get exited about finding things on his own.
He did say that he has no problem with a game like Skyrim. It's NMS specifically that's giving him issues for the reasons he provided. Tbch the planets he's been visiting so far have been really barren and boring looking. Hope he comes across something lush soon.

So he likes a SP game like skyrim but he can't deal with NMS being SP (with maybe 0.00001% chance of MP). Sounds like a reasonable human.

He explained why he likes something like Skyrim compared to this game.

Just that the game is boring to him, although he goes on great lengths to say that maybe its just his preferences, not that the game is bad.

It's kind of sad that he has to suck up to these people in the Twitch chat and explain profusely that he doesn't think the game is bad just because they made the mistake of becoming so personally invested in it that any hint of criticism offends them.

That is true. I kinda dont understand why people has this necessity of their tastes being "approved" by someone else. This guy was giving reasons why he didnt like some of the things (Like inventory managment), but people seem to think it has to be perfect and cherished by everyone or is a bust.

Hype is a hell of a drug.

It's crazy...hopefully they fix it? I doubt it'll launch like this.

Pretty sure it's due to the way the terrain is generated as you go (it's procedural bro!) and it's limited by the CPU power of the device running it.

The consoles have only so much power to give and even on a PC, it's only going to go so far.

Would be nice if they gave us a slider that let you extend the range (or maybe an INI tweak). The more powerful the CPU the father you could probably get it to generate in real time.

Hopefully powerful enough to push the terrain generation out to meet the fog so it all looks seamless.

I'm not holding my breath for it though.

Well he also said he found Fallout 3 boring, but loved Skyrim. I guess it's just opinions.

It's ok, I don't like games like Overwatch. Or pretty much anything multiplayer. I know it wouldn't be for me, but I guess with this game people are curious about it and have little to compare it to, so maybe don't know if it's for them or not.

Yet he said he's going to play it for 30-40 hours, which is crazy.

Gaming culture's lost the plot, just play games you like and allow devs to make games they want.

This expectation from both sides, gamers expecting every game to have certain functions and developers appeasing them and pouring time and money into it, is just creating a load of similar games.

I mean, I understand why the pop-in would have to exist but it still looks terrible.

:[

I thought you guys were talking about the game and not a specific stream.

No, it's not the streams fault. It's the games pop-in that looks bad.

The best one was how he said he didn't know anything about the game when he bought it other than it being a space exploration game. Then went on and said something about him hearing all these things about the game.

This is really what i think. I see valid points in "They should improve this aspect of the game, or make that one better", but I disregard completely opinions of "Should be more like X game, or have Y mechanic". For better or worse, theres no game like NMS coming out. People shouldnt expect all upcoming games to be made for them.

Well sometimes if everyone else is enjoying the game you can feel you're missing something and try to find it. I spent about 15 hours with Burnout Paradise trying to like it. Two abortive attempts at BioShock, Dead Space etc. Sometimes a game just doesn't click, but you really want it to.

Guy on stream doesnt like this game. Thinks it's worth $20, not $60.

Im worried about pop in on PS4. Performance is probably going to be criticized.
