No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

Good to hear some of the planets still have a survival aspect dealing with the suits. I hope battling wildlife, when and if it happens, is as engaging.

All this procedural stuff is going to give people some variance, even moreso with different playstyles. I suspect a lotta "this game is boring" versus "you just have to find the right stuff" back and forth once it drops.

From BT's stream:

Kill it!

KILL IT.

BT's gun's skin has a ME Cerberus vibe to it:

I really dig it so far!

Good to hear! NMS is definitely something I can see myself binging on for a week or two, then coming back to it for an hour in the evenings after work every few days to dig a little deeper into the galaxy; I can see it being what Proteus was for me during the year it came out. Something to wind down to every so often after a stressful day.

Well maybe. But someone said it was their plan 'from the beginning'. Also nothing has been officially said to contradict that description in the interim, so people are still using that to judge the game.

No, I said it that they've been honest about what's in the game from the beginning.

You may be absolutely right, maybe this is the intended experience as far as difficulty, but I doubt it. In either case, I think it's best to hold off any opinions on the game's difficulty until we have the day 1 patch installed.

In BT's stream shortly before he found the giant bipedal rhino he was attacked by some crazy lizard/plant hybrid creature. It very nearly killed him:

i dont think day 1 patch will change the core difficulty of the game, i'm 99% sure they want people to explore the universe without hassle

Quite the opposite. Sean has said he wants the game to be challenging so that exploration has weight. Exploration without effort is just whatever, but if you fought and struggled to reach some vista or discovery, then there's a sense of satisfaction

can you link when he say that?

Depends on your definition of engaging.

Shoot everything a few times and it dies. That's about it. I haven't seen any combat mechanics outside of that.

I'm personally more interested in the spaceship combat, but I've seen hardly anything with that aspect of the game.

This green mushroom world on tiggles streams looks fantastic. The pop-in is slightly annoying, sure, but the vibrancy of some of these worlds is well worth it.

It's not hassle-free, though. Think of it this way: You are, for whatever reason, equipped to deal with some of the harshness of space. It makes sense that you'd be able to (somewhat) explore without succumbing to the elements. It's not until you stray further from your homebase (in this case your ship) or encounter some harsh wildlife that things should get difficult.

I don't really like hopping into my ship everytime I want to go a distance. It eats through my launch thruster fuel like crazy and can be a resource strain. Like right now it takes 50% of my thruster's fuel to just take off. I can't always find enough plutonium to refill easily.

Nice to hear! Will you be reviewing it?
Nah I think Kirk is gonna review it for us. I like it a lot so far, though. I was really enjoying running around and exploring stuff. It's a pain in the ass that you have to keep recharging your mining laser, but presumably you'll get an array of new, more powerful tools as you go along.

I'm fairly easy to please. As long as there is variance in the animals, I'll be alright.

And if I can use my ship to just ram stuff, we will have even more fun.

I'm glad I was able to watch these streams the past of couple days. The gameplay doesn't appeal to me, and I know I would get bored of it pretty quickly.

I do get why people like it though and I'm keen to see what cool shit people will find while exploring the games universe.

Is there any indication or idea how many planets are in a galaxy?

Effectively infinite. Like... Let's say there are 100 trillion stars in a galaxy. There are on average 3 planets/moons from what I've seen per star. 300 trillion would never be explored by everyone. Heck, 1 billion wouldn't. I doubt 1 million would.

To your actual question, I think the galaxy holds 18 quintillion planets, as per Sean Murray. I don't know if that's the first galaxy or all potential galaxies though

Just speculating.

But even if the game "only" had a billion galaxies, you'd still have 18 billion planets per galaxy.

I mean, it's crazy xD
I was just wondering of how statistically possible it was, and how often, you could come across a planet that someone else had visited.
I've still no idea how the whole multiple galaxies thing will or could work in the game.

I was just joking but that's Yoshi evolved right there.

Let there be a warp pipe.

I haven't even played the game yet and it's already paid for it's self based on what I have seen in streams.

Edit: Three vehicles flying in formation. Another bullshit myth squashed.

Yes, and I get why people might not like it. I don't think the game could have been made outside of an indie studio. Not in the same way. It it is what it is and doesn't dilute its central concept to broaden its appeal. This inevitably makes it more niche, but also more interesting in my opinion.

I think there will be lots of returns of this game, it's not a mainstream title. But I think those who like it will really love it. There was a streamer last night who just found it dull, but you can tell by BigTiggles' stream he's totally into the game.

So yes, it'll be divisive. But that's not a bad thing IMO. I hope we see more games like that.
