No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

Wingmen, predators and prey, stealth capabilities, ship classes, and the curvature are all things mentioned by Sean or quoted as said in articles

Predators and prey are mentioned by Sean here:

In other interviews, he talked about a shark eating a dead carcass floating on the water, and carnivorous plants attacking and eating birds flying overhead

A lot of it comes from the Edge Magazine preview

Sean talks about seeing the curvature of the planet, as the engine generates the planet in low detail allowing for those huge distances and seeing hazy mountains on the horizon

Well, damn. Thanks for the correction.

Has anyone tried some dumb shit like seeing how deep they could dig or crashing their ship and stuff?

I did see one of BT's earlier streams where he started blasting straight down and hit a point --still pretty deep though-- where he couldn't dig any deeper. Whether that was because that's the maximum for that planet, or his multi-tool wasn't powerful enough to dig further, I don't know.

If anyone can help fill this out, that'd be awesome :)

ANIMALS

PLANTS

PLANETS

Just grabbed a couple pics/video captures from this thread. Thought it'd be useful when people ask about variety since not everyone will have seen past streams.

Everything posted in this thread is tempting me to jump back in. I'll wait for a price drop, though. I already have a huge backlog of games I haven't touched yet.

Lol wow that planet is far, on itzz_uae91 stream.

I can imagine myself letting my ship drift to the next planet while i eat or do homework or something lol

Having watched a bunch of streams that were 70% harvesting resources, 20% selling stuff at space stations and 10% actual exploration, I'm still pretty worried.

I feel like, at least on PC, the proper way to play will be: Get to the center of the first galaxy legit, then just use a trainer/Cheat Engine so you can explore without restrictions.

I love the concept behind the game, but what I've seen so far is akin to an FPS where you spend most of your time looking for ammo.

I mean if that's how you wanna play feel free to play that way. There's nothing stopping you from playing it how it's meant to be played, as the resource restriction eventually plays into the exploration aspect.

I'm not spoiling myself, but just want to know.

Is the game holding up to reasonable expectations or is it bad?

The majority of streamers, most have streamed over 10 hours or more when possible. One guy had 3 days of streaming before being taken offline. Another did a 19 hour marathon.

So.. presumably it's holding up.

lol the sound design and music are my fav things sooo far will be hard though not to put on interstellar's OST while playing though..

Harvesting resources is a part of exploring, and it helps glue everything together. You explore aimlessly and find resources and 'quests' as you do. You exploring feels rewarding beyond just enjoying what you see. If you weren't resource gathering as you quest it would be harder - that being said, if there is someone who cares more about staying on planets and doing just quests, they can focus on upgrading their armour for being comfortable in environments, as you resource spaces matter less, and you can just harvest the minimum amount to survive, which depending on the planet could be extremely little.

However even that is an important part of exploration mechanic, because if exploring any planet was easy, then you would lose a level of depth describing a planet - the harshness or the lack there of. It makes finding a beautiful tropical paradise feel 'relaxing' - it makes a a harsh unforgiven burning crusade looking planet anxiety inducing.

Man, the wife went to bed early as she's not feeling well so I have the night to get some good gaming in for the first time in ages but absolutely nothing is hitting the spot while I'm waiting for this game.

Spending the night watching Star Trek The Original Series and flitting between NMS streams instead!

So, any idea what these "new features" might be in the new patch?
Wild speculation - more blueprints, maybe the ability to interact under water, and maybe the wingman feature. Or maybe something more surprising, like a revamp of how crafting works or actually providing random base stats that go with tools and ships you find.

Basically, my wish list.
