No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

What does this mean for the progress a I received my copy today. Does it make sense to play it now?

Hard to tell by the wording of the tweet. Just may be the discoveries that are wiped.

Is there a way to summon your ship or do you always have to trek back to it?

You can summon your ships at a landing pad, but you either need to hack it with a bypass chip or have enough of a good rep with the owners to access it.

It pertains to all these press leakers and Gamestop employees that are playing/streaming the game before the release date - all thier discoveries will not be counted in the Atlas, as the server storing them will be wiped.

Everyone will get a fresh start when they receive their retail copies Monday evening.

Definitely means progress and discoveries are getting wiped.

I figured that would probably be the case.

Yup.

Looks like I was misunderstanding the tweet. The notification of server wipe was in response to the screen-capped quote off of Kotaku's site re: visiting planet "Harambe".

edit: Now I bet BT's gonna main NMS all weekend to grab that platinum before Tuesday and starting from scratch.

So everyone starts off on a different planet right? Cause the one it started me on I'm already seeing stuff I didn't see in the few streams I watched.

In theory, yep. There's a website out there that's encouraging people to screenshot their first planet as soon as they can and upload it so we can see the variety.

It would be super interesting if the Day 1 patch also included a new seed, to make everything truly unknown for all going in, even those current streamers.

Edit: Huh. BT just got attacked by what looked like an exact copy-- though a lot smaller-- of that moon-shaped headed creature DAYMEEUHN found a few days ago elsewhere.

If there are any significant changes in the patch the internet will implode.

Well, bits of it.

I'm not expecting anything major. I am expecting some fairly significant incremental updates over time, though.

These guys are going to get banned for being racists before they get banned for streaming an unreleased game.

I'd recommend watching this one on mute.

You called it - he just got banned.

"The community has closed this channel due to terms of service violations"

Worth noting that I've been watching several streamers for past few days on Twitch who haven't been banned. Every time they go offline people say "RIP" "banned" etc, but they always come back (except tigs)

Is all water shown so far crystal clear? Are there no murky bodies of water? And is there ever any waves? From what I seen so far, water seems pretty static. Waterfalls woulda been nice.

Yeah I'm looking forward to what small changes, usability wise, they implement with the patch. But a new seed shouldn't break the game though. The algorithm seems to be holding up from what limited slices we've seen. This would just throw the galaxy into the blender again so everything's fresh.

With a game like this with a team this size, I expect small changes in patches. Bethesda learnt the hard way a long time ago that even small changes and bugfixes can cascade into issues in other areas. I mean, seriously - these guys are a really small team with a procedural game where nothing else like it exists - those expecting PVP/clans/etc in patches probably want to wait for a sequel, because stability is going to be key here.

Right. I'm just thinking things like UI tweaks or inventory bugs, maybe an option to mute that notification voice and just display the subtitle (though that may already exist under options). This game is already what I want. Not looking for it to be anything more, personally.

Oh, sorry - I didn't mean you. I've just seen people elsewhere saying patching will add full multiplayer clan warfare (??), graphical upgrades, VoIP chat etc. Something tells me, if it's taken 4 years to get it this far - this is basically the game. Some tweaks, but if I was the devs I would change as little as possible as the QA resources Sony provides are probably already gone.

Looking at BigTiggles stream, who said this didn't have mountains, lol. He just went in a cave at the top of a big one and there's a weird jellyfish thing wobbling about in front of some stone slabs.

Now he saw something else even freakier, think I'm out for now lol, hopefully I get my copy tomorrow in the mail anyway.

This is genuinely my concern for the people that are taking what streamers are seeing as gospel. I spent over 2 hours on a planet last night because I kept running into settlements, colonies and old bases. I started crafting my own narrative because there were clues in place, but nothing was stated outright. As an example: I found an abandoned settlement that was covered in a thick, red vine-like substance. When I went to interact with the panel inside of the settlement I got a short entry log that made it sound like these settlers dug a little too deep and a little too greedily. It was eerie as fuck.

Then I wandered so far to see if this was still the case. Was this planet home to a sentient, volatile breed of plant? Eventually I was so far from my ship I nearly died on the trek back. From the surface it looked like it was relatively barren but looking around after landing quickly proved that false.

And that's only in playing for 3-4 hours and seeing.... 6 planets. Maybe?

Wow this sounds really amazing. This just hypes me even more that I already was!

How constant is the world?

e.g If I go to a planet and see a type of lifeform, will that lifeform be the same for anyone else who visits or is it completely randomised?

It's a seed, so everybody sees the same thing. However with 38493284932849328 planets (or whatever the number is) chances are you aren't even going to go to the same places as others almost of all the time.
