The Gek have some dope ass threads. Looking forward to the cosplay NMS will inspire; particularly if someone dresses up as that reptile teddy bear thing.

It's not hassle-free, though. Think of it this way: You are, for whatever reason, equipped to deal with some of the harshness of space. It makes sense that you'd be able to (somewhat) explore without succumbing to the elements. It's not until you stray further from your homebase (in this case your ship) or encounter some harsh wildlife that things should get difficult.

I don't really like hopping into my ship everytime I want to go a distance. It eats through my launch thruster fuel like crazy and can be a resource strain. Like right now it takes 50% of my thruster's fuel to just take off. I can't always find enough plutonium to refill easily.

I noticed the launch thruster fuel requirement and I think that's to get people to explore more than a few meters from their ship, like I've been seeing in lots of streams.

What's up with these choose your own adventure style of story choices? I wish they actually showed those to the player instead of telling them in text...

I'd imagine it's easier when adding new missions/dlc/etc. Saves them from having to animate characters, voice overs, etc.

EDIT:
Whoever's putting together the OT, can you link/post some of these animals/planets so people can shut up about the variety? :P

This list of leaks I came across has me very worried.

Differences between what they've said and shown in trailers, and what has been seen so far:
90/10 life rule. So far 100% of the planets have life.
No real ship classes.
No "weirder planets and creatures closer to the center"
Community working together to discover crafting recipes. Everything now has a blueprint.
No "Epic space battles" Space is rather empty most of the time.
No Element combination.
Portals. No one seen them (perhaps yet) Bullshit!
No ringed planets.
No barren planets.
No leaving messages for players.
No ship naming.
No AI wingmen.

No animals walking in herds, they all walk rather random. Already seen.
Cloaking devices are missing.
Lack of mountain-sized mountains.

Harvesting resources from stars, you can't even get close enough to them.
No Day/night cycles being caused by planetary rotation and planets don't seem to be lit by the sun at all or even orbit. Realistic simulation of astronomical bodies was never promised.
No creature food chains. Full, realistic, complex food chains were never promised. Otherwise, we've seen creatures eating other creatures.
None of those ship formations flying overhead on planet surface either, actually the business you see in the trailers is totally absent. Bullshit.
No sign of creatures affecting trees and fauna (like the rhino in second trailer)
Blasting holes in asteroids, so far I've only seen them blow up. Disproven.
You cannot see as far as the curvature of that planet.
The universe is absent. it seems to be a chain of galaxies you move through and as far as we know now, once you leave a galaxy for the next one, you cannot return. That's not really an infinite universe at all.
No landing on asteroids.

I've bolded the things that were never promised.

This is the danger behind letting yourself get hyped and imagining/speculating. Games cannot currently simulate everything you can imagine, so fantasizing about all these incredible things you want to see in a game will always end poorly.

I stand corrected.

The plan was to prioritize upgrading my suit and ship first, but after the last few pages it's probably going to be my gun. Holy shit

Wingmen, predators and prey, stealth capabilities, ship classes, and the curvature are all things mentioned by Sean or quoted as said in articles

Predators and prey are mentioned by Sean here:

In other interviews, he talked about a shark eating a dead carcass floating on the water, and carnivorous plants attacking and eating birds flying overhead

A lot of it comes from the Edge Magazine preview

If you have a good status and affiliation, then you will be able to call on AI wingmen (Using D-pad)
According to Edge Magazine, there are three confirmed types of spaceships in-game: Fighters, Traders, and Explorers. Each have their own unique feature and players will not be bound to that ship type.

Fighters are light and possibly intended for outmaneuvering other ships in combat.Traders are slow but are packed with heavy weapons. Explorers have “better hyperdrive and stealth capabilities” that allow them to leave aggressors in the dust.

Sean talks about seeing the curvature of the planet, as the engine generates the planet in low detail allowing for those huge distances and seeing hazy mountains on the horizon

Landing on asteroids
Q: Can you land on a comet?
A: Yeah, at the moment, you can land on an asteroid.

Landing on asteroids

Yeah some of these I remember.

Curvature of the planet though is already a thing, you can see it as you ascend descend, predator prey - I remember seeing creatures fighting each other in a cave on BT's stream, so I imagine that's part of that mechanic, and "ship classes" I guess is ambiguities, as the combination of upgrades can determine what "class" a ship is, unless he meant something else.

It sounds like stealth capabilities and landing on asteroids are legitimately not in, but the latter wasn't even promised, in fact it sounds like they were already considering removing it from the game.

Has anyone tried some dumb shit like seeing how deep they could dig or crashing their ship and stuff?

Right now my biggest desire is to get in the game and start trying to break shit.
