No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

I think this is the beginning of a very large backlash against this game

This doesn't whether I'm interested in the game or not because a single galaxy is still pretty huge and its a game I know I'll enjoy but to call a spade a spade... If its not actually a universe then we have been lied to.

What for?

The devs said pretty clearly that there are multiple galaxies. End of the story. The leaked gameplay and infos seem to corroborate that.

We trust this gamer blindly and we doubt everything the devs said?

And it'll all be self inflicted. Idk how anyone could be so misinformed when Sean has always done that pullback. It was always annoying because I already understood, but I see now why he might have done it. There is literally nothing to be worried about or anything new/shocking.

This. Gamers are dumb.

By the way, is there a repository where I can find everything this gamer has posted? Pics and videos, especially?

It's sad because the people at fault for the backlash are none other than the biggest fans of the game. The expectations surrounding this game are insane, especially for it being such a small studio.
Let's start the backlash against the backlash!
Before the game is out. Based on 1 attention seeking person.

What backlash? What are we talking about ... what? Please explain because my head is spinning here.

you're saying it will be much worse?

Another user asked me if I was crazy thinking that he made everything up.

Of course I wasn't and it sounded absurd...but now xD

Did he really pay 2000 for the game? Of course he needs attention. What better way to get it? Well, posting vague and provocative information. xD

Disclaimer for the dumb: I'm not saying he's lying.

EDIT: Some people want some quick positives, so stealing some I wrote down below:

While I still haven't found a planet flush with Plants and Fauna as some of the trailer planets (I'll attest this to Sean's claim of those super full and awesome planets being a REALLY low chance to find) I will say that the terrain and overall vibe of the planets has been surprisingly refreshing. I never really have moments where I land on a planet and say, "Oh no, not this one again." They have a lot of variables in the procedural - even the most mundane things like coloring can mean a world of difference. One planet may seem VERY different from another simply because one is purple and another is yellow - you don't notice the similarities as much this way.

Everything is very smooth. The space combat, the entering / leaving your ship, the warp jumps, all of it just feels really sharp while you're playing. I really enjoy the space flight, it's quick enough that I don't sit around twiddling my thumbs but it's long enough at times where I legit feel like I'm traversing a realistic space-distance.

The noises and sound in this game are some of the best I've ever experienced. The animal noises are incredible. They set the mood in such fantastic ways - you'll hear them from quite a ways off and it really sets the tone for that planet. It's very immersive.

There are still 18 Quintillion planets regardless of how they are organized. No reason to get upset over semantics.

Thinking about this more, is it possible that he meant 18 quintillion POSSIBLE planets? If an instance has much much fewer planets but changing instances/galaxies refreshes the generation of planets.

I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around a procedurally generated space that multiple people can exist in at once but doesn't exist for YOU unless you go to a spot. If things exist around you, and also exist around other people in a different place, it would mean those places are not necessarily generated for you, in particular. So at some point, doesn't the whole space essentially become fully generated as people in an instance explore it?

Let me quote myself from the other thread.

Its a sandbox you are plopped in to do whatever you want. You can spend countless hours cataloging life, visiting new systems, fighting pirates, or just rushing to the "end". This is a "make your own fun" kind of game. Not everyone enjoys having that kind of freedom, some people need to be guided and controlled. As such, as I've said in other threads about other games, not every game is made for you.

Sean has done nothing do make the game seem anything more than that.

Its because the game uses a seed number. That number will ensure that everything will be generated in the same location and be exactly the same for every single player. The "universe" of NMS is 3D. Its not a flat plain. So you'll have stars to the left and right of you. To the top and bottom and every which way in between.

My post was to address any misinformed who would '"backlash" not anyone in particular as of right now! If people are going to get that upset over anything we've learned so far, it'll be a real trip! Not saying the game is perfect btw; it deserves to be criticized in ways like discussing possible bugs and such like we've had. Not over things that have been explained time and time again!

I've been saying this is how it was structured for months now.

Agreed!

There are a lot of things that it could be. It should be only the first galaxy is shared, and all the rest are unique. It could be that there are already pre generated galaxies, and that in the centre you go to a new one, randomly. It could be that when you get to the centre you create a new galaxy, and it's just for you. It could be you create a new galaxy, and at the centre of a galaxy there is a hub where you can explore the galaxies your friends created.

There are a lot of things it could mean!

It sounds really strongly to me, based on what he is saying, that you start in one galaxy, go to the center, end up at the edge of another galaxy and begin anew.

Q: If you wanted to, is there an easy way to trace the route back through the systems you travelled in, back to your starting planet?

A: Heh, well... I'll just say no. No there is not. :)

as someone said above there are multiple galaxies confirmed, so it seems to imply that's what the 'center' is

This thread is a mess holy crap. I for one won't be put off by a guy who spent $2k to rush through and will enjoy it for what it is. Just a place to explore and walk around looking at different environments.

That's all I want, somewhere to spend a night just walking around and trying to find stuff.

The only "cracks" I'm seeing are technical issues, which should be fixed in the day 1 patch.
Eh to me, every single planet having life is a problem. They said 90% of planets wouldn't, but apparently that's not true now. To me life should be a surprise when you find it and there should be a certain "pacing" between the really cool stuff and the not as cool. It kind of sucks that there won't be any barren, dead planets. Or maybe gas giants.

We've been saying this since the beginning, and the devs said it a year or so ago.

And guess what? More galaxies.

And I still doubt some of the issues are real. We got two or three screenshots and then zero media from this daymeeuhn.

If I encounter some strange bugs I sure as hell will be saving them to share online.

Attention-whore at its finest.
Lol, accept the game isn't perfect.

Aside from some immersion breaking bugs (the shallow water spawning problem first and foremost), the leaker is pretty clear that the game is remarkably immersive. Most explorationphiles will probably love NMS.
I find that keeping expectations in check and maintaining interest aren't mutually exclusive.
Absolutely. It's just a shame that there are so many eager to pick on those who can't.

The only thing I'm dissapointed by is that there seems to be at least something on each planet animal wise. For the rest it seems just as what I expected which is great. I'm not too worried.

Also remember he's still playing on the June 21st version of the game without a day 1 patch. So I wonder how that'll differ with the August update applied to it. For all we know the seed will change again.
Also, especially bugwise I expect a lot to be fixed.

Furthermore, on the PC version I'm curious if the game is moddable enough that people will just push that amplify button on terrain generation (which by what he mentioned is already pretty great) creature generation and other things like what people did in Minecraft.

This is also a game that can be updated for years on end like minecraft/terraria/Starbound etc and more mechanics and general improvements to the experience.

That quote is confusing since the game allows you to set a waypoint to any planet you've visited. He needs to tell people what's going on at this point. I feel that the opinions of some random person, especially ONE, should not be treated as fact. He might end up doing damage by leaving so many blanks; it makes people fill in those blanks themselves with just as empty guesses.

I'm a little disappointed in the planets all having life on them. It was supposed to be a treat to come across life, especially complex life. If that wasn't the case then they should've corrected people on the fact. It's not as if they weren't reading people's impressions of the news about the game.

Secondly, the ship types apparently not making a difference is a bummer.

Lastly, things seemingly not getting stranger near the center.

Another thing to note, I don't think he's mentioned sentinels at all, which is interesting.

That 'plants and animals still showing on planet that should be barren' thing sounds like a bug or even leftover debug code to me. Could be as simple as the planet generation code sending the right seed info/life levels to the function that sets the planet description metadata but the wrong data to the actual generation code. So yeah, I wouldn't be concerned with that one.

In fact most of the bugs don't sound too horrible to me. Stuff I'd probably hold off on buying for a few weeks as a result of, but not game killers.

The crashing and some of the design decisions (the ez-mode warp, lack of ship differences, etc) will be far more important.

Lol, accept the game isn't perfect.

You got me wrong buddy.

I just don't like this messianic attitude "I'll reveal some bits, some are vague, some are straight up lies, and I have no evidence to back it up so you better believe it".

Every game has flaws. Every flaw unique. Every flaw procedural.

My biggest disappointment is definitely every planet he landed on had Life. So obviously the 90% barren of any life was complete crap, or they decided to change it.

Finding life should be exciting. Most planets having critters running around seems ridiculous.

I'm kind of confused on the version he's running on. Is this is the day 1 version of the game (assuming no patches) that we will start with on the 9th? Obviously, I'm expecting that the major things (what's at the center, etc) won't change, but I'm curious if the bugs will be there as well.

Another point brought up is that he may have an older build? As his game box art apparently had the june 21 date on it. Not to say the game wouldn't be 99% the same, but a new build for a game like this could literally mean a different galaxy, so if it is a new build it could mean the whole 'exploit' thing is already changed. It could explain why his upgrades are broken as well, and maybe other issues.

Or he could have the latest version, however, something to consider. I think someone posted the picture of his case, right? I'm too lazy to confirm, but if it had the june 21 date on it and the newer cases have the Aug 9th date, then it very well might be a different build. A pre delay build.

that, the space stations all being the same and the fact he hasn't died once...

So I'm going to go with my gut here from reading his comments -

This is a new game+ infinite loop universe.

When you get to the centre, you jump to a new galaxy, which is newly generated based on the things done in your first pass through the universe + other factors, maybe random factors.

Everyone shares the same first galaxy, but everyone creates new galaxies. And it gets tougher the second time through, planets get weirder, aliens vary in size and in general stuff gets wonkier.

I imagine you carry other things from previous plays as well.

I've been reading a lot about what the leaker has said and my first thought was exactly this! I really do think you are onto something here.

Yeah I'm still clinging to a small hope that it will be addressed via the day one patch.

Imagine finding an actually mammal-like creature after 10 hours of nothing but barren wastelands or fauna.

That may seem extremely boring to some but it sounds fantastic to me. I love incredibly delayed gratification.

This is exactly what happens with one exception: We know we share the same 'universe' (Sean has said that) so each consecutive galaxy will be shared in the same way the first was.
