No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

Anyone else a bit concerned the person playing says every planet he has visited has had some life? Granted, he says not to the degree of the trailers.

I thought 90% were supposed to be completely dead planets?

So, the guy that made the video posted a new screenshot. Beware, this one actually could be quite spoilery, maybe?

You really sure?

...

well, you were warned

Easter Egg?

Yes, it's a bit disappointing. Either they have a different definition of barren or the 'what do you do' people made them worried that too many people would find the game boring if it was mostly truly barren planets.

Yep, I think it was Verge's preview that's still quoted to this day to explain scarcity of life in this game:
The developers have set themselves a 90–10 rule. 90 percent of all the planets will not be habitable and won’t have any life on them. Of the 10 percent that do, 90 percent of that life will be primitive and boring. The tiny fraction of garden worlds with more evolved life forms on them will thus be almost as rare in the game universe as they ought to be in the real one. This scarcity is part of the delicate balance that Hello Games is trying to strike between its idealistic commitment to the science of sci-fi and the inherent need to keep players entertained.
As someone who would actually like to see gas giants in this game, even if they had no gameplay use, I was looking forward to exploring some lifeless rocks.

Maybe he has just had tremendous luck and should buy a lottery ticket? Or the beginning tier of planets are always full of needed materials?

So has the guy who has it early got to the center of the universe yet? Hoping not. Any word on trophies either? I assume they wouldn't pop up until release date.

That's insane. When I heard 1-2 hours left for the first galaxy I was wondering if it was like a set amount before getting there kinda like a linear path but the possibility of spending months getting there is fucking amazing.

he played at least 30 hours already

And for the record, Im max "level", I'm max rep with all 3 factions and I've learned a ton of words, I've maxed out my suit and I have way too many units. So I'm not really missing any of the game, no.

I'm up to like 80% of the way there. I can make it in another 1-2 hours. Fuck it. I'm putting this baby to bed once and for all.

Hype train is a go.

That's where he is at right now

Also on the subject of "get closer to center = more stuff"

I'm getting closer and closer and I keep occasionally checking planets to see if anything screams out as "Look you're further in, this shit's crazy!" And I haven't hit anything yet. Nothing even REMOTELY close to some of the flush with life and plants planets showcased in some of the fancier trailers. Just give me one of those planets and I'll spend hours on it.

Not sure what you mean by pop ins, but if you mean the Journey Milestones then yes they're annoying. But I've completed all of then fully so they won't be bothering me any more.

They're very rare planets. Just hopping down to a planet now and then isn't going to help discover them. If people want to see those then they'll have to play in the way Sean Murray intended it to be played.

Alright so correct me if I'm wrong but, even if there is an "exploit" that allows you to warp indefinitely, wouldn't that make the player just go into harder areas of the universe with lower quality gear, making survival in those areas much much harder? Don't you have to land on planets to grind rep and discover new technologies to improve your multi-tool and ship? Or does this "exploit" break everything?

We talked about in the earlier page, he's upgraded and still has currency to spare

It's not an exploit and it gives you A) basically infinite money and B) as much warp fuel as you want.
As the leaker stated, he has fully upgraded gear, max rep with factions, etc...
He can just buy any ship he wants.

So it's not like he is undergeared for anything

im quite excited to see what he finds in the middle in a few hours. im not sure what possibly could be there that would be satisfying?

I'm torn; I want to see what he finds but also don't want to. Pretty sure I won't make it for a long time and the probability of getting spoiled is high anyways.

Getting the game regardless!

Im not guna see what he finds in the center of the galaxy but I swear sean said things get crazier as you get to the center of the UNIVERSE and that the game opens up once you reach the center of the galaxy. Its just that reaching the center of the galaxy was a good stopping point to give the average player a sense of completion.

Ahh well.. I'll figure it out myself. Bailing out of this thread now.

Flora: none, fauna: scarce. Plants and animals everywhere.
The player stayed there for two minutes during which I saw many different small plants, trees and what looked like carnivorous plants, which is so far from "none," this can't possibly be working as intended.

Is there a list of gameplay related things and technical stuff yet?
Like there's no gravity difference between planets (which is disappointing) and the default low FOV, etc.

He's maxed out + infinite money. He's prepared for anything.

But that could be a good idea for an "extreme" run.
With the starting hyperdrive engine you need 425 jumps to reach the centre. Someone could do that, and find himself in danger.

But he did intend for people to never visit planets if they so wanted.

Didn't the guy who showed his first planet have a pop up saying resources were scarce too? I think that's what i remember seeing. But there were loads.

Looking forward to seeing what's the centre of the universe.

Yep. Exactly why I mentioned it earlier. Something does seem really off since the descriptions listed don't match what is on the planet.

Like you I wanted to have some truly barren planets.

Also, how long is it gonna be to travel from one planet (or ecosystem) to another?

I've played several space exploration games and the most boring stuff is always the traveling part.

Oh, it could take an hour, or a few seconds, depending on what you mean. Really, going into hyperdrive covers an immense amount of distance and is pretty smooth and instantaneous, but if you're just flying along at basic speeds it depends on how far you'd want to go before you got sick of it

I said Sean Murray not Hello Games. Yes, he said you 'could' play it without landing on a planet but it's clear how Sean Murray would like it to be played. That's the way I'm playing it.

Yeah, there need to be some LV-426 style planets in the game, just a barren stormy rock, maybe you stumble upon some mysterious ruin or a crashed ship.

I know, it's just that when the "leaker" said that he "found some degree of life" on barren planets, I thought it would be something he had to search for. I definitely didn't expect THAT.

Up to hours at cruising speed, minutes using the boost option, a few minutes or even seconds using Pulse Jumps.
Hyperdrive is used to travel to other systems.

I agree. I was certainly surprised as well. I figured even finding planets with simple life would be cool and somewhat rare according to the 90% barren world stats they talked about. Now it seems finding an actual barren world may be extremely rare.

It is certainly a bummer for me if pretty much every planet has plants and little animals walking around.
