To add to this the community being in on it is when things will shine. You may not see much in your own playthrough, but someone somewhere can come upon something good.

This game might turn out to be disappointing but it is the game Hello Games have shown us and you can't judge it based on one persons experience.

I personally think it's going to be fantastic and everything I thought it would be.

Don't quote me out of context, it annoys me. From what I've seen of the guy playing the game, it's everything I thought it would be. Do you know what I thought it would be? No. I've acknowledged it could be disappointing but I feel it is going to be fantastic based on what I expected from the game.
 
Are people really upset about someone reaching the center of the universe in 40 hours? I'm relieved. I thought it would be dam near impossible to get there in that time.

Knowing that this is achievable in that time will actually make me want to explore the planets even more, where as before I probably would rushed through them to hit the end goal.

He reached the center of the galaxy in 40 hours. So reaching whatever the center of the universe is will probably still take forever.

He hasn't reached the centre of the universe in 40 hours. He's not even close to reaching the centre of the universe.

It's important to keep reminding people that we have no idea what changes the Day 1 patch will bring either.

(I'm also secretly hoping the Day 1 patch also deletes prior save files up until launch day.)

I mean, for some people that is kind of fast. There's also other things he's said that has disappointed some people.

Like the ships just being cosmetic and their being no real difference between them.

No combat/science/mining/hauling ships.
 
I didn't read this thread from top to bottom. I don't know what's going on. I just wanted to say that the game will evolve with time. I'm sure there will be DLC or free patches.

I have a shitty work week and I just want to relax when I play a game. If this game can give me that, if it allows me to turn my overheated brain off and explore shit, then it will be worth it for me. As long as it doesn't turn my brain completely off to the point where I end up sleeping. I just want to be in a zombie / entertained state. Whatever that means.

I'm fairly certain that Sean has stated that all of the post-release support would come in the form of free patches, and not paid DLC.

It's not what Sean has said, it's you extrapolating off the fact that he said Universe instead of Galaxy once. The guy also said the opposite of what you were saying earlier about how each galaxy is weirder than the last. He said it was effectively the same as the first.

No. The crux of this game is its robust MMO style multiplayer, the immersive fully voice-acted linear story and the highly granular base building mechanics. According to neogaf, citing this interview with Sean Murray.

I don't really understand this as a defense for something. Sure, you can buy things for yourself based on whatever reasoning you want, but something as shallow as this is kinda useless to a discussion.

This criteria is so vaguely nothing, you can go get minecraft for 1/3 of the price. Infinitely generated world that you can explore but you also get to build whatever you want or something dumb like that.

Sean actually originally said it was infinite. I'm assuming that was nonsense, or can planets repeat?

Most games aren't done by chance. That armor can be gotten by fulfilling requirements. Seeing certain planets and events in this game is determined by chance.

But the leaker seems to think it isn't so bad since he found most of what the game had to offer by just messing around, not including the variations of course.

Why would each galaxy be the same when all it takes is another seed to create a different galaxy? And what's the point in naming the galaxy if all the galaxies are the same? Many galaxies make up a universe, hence it saying 'Your universe awaits' in the advert.

People hyped this game up to be more than what it was going to be and now their imaginary construction is falling apart. We have various people in different stages. Some are in denial, some are at the bargaining stage, but nobody has reached acceptance. Not yet anyways.

You said earlier in the thread that each galaxy after the first has weirder and weirder physics. And I didn't say they were the same, I said he said they were effectively the same, i.e. the procedural generation did not appear to be doing different things in the second galaxy.

It's not meant as a defense. I don't care if people don't buy it. I'm not making money off of sales (I wish I did).

I like space. And spaceships. And exploration. I hope the gameplay loop isn't boring, as otherwise the little I've seen look appealing.

Oh, and I also like Minecraft. Am I allowed to like two games ?

Yep, that's how I think it's going to work. Sean said it would as you get closer to the centre of the universe and I have no reason to doubt what he said. The steps won't be too big of course because by the time you get to you 8th or 9th or 10th galaxy everything would be too weird too fast.

If what I'm saying here doesn't make sense to you then something tells me you're just being argumentative because you don't want this game to be good.

Yeah...it's like people have never played anything procedural (or even roguelike) before. I like Elite, so I more or less knew what I was getting. Lol at the comments from people suggesting they were going to take more than an hour on each planet. It makes far more sense to spend a small time on each one and visit others quickly. You can walk 1, 10, or 100 miles in any direction from where you land, and you're going to be seeing the same kind of stuff as where you landed. Procedural tech is amazing in some ways, but it sure has it's limits in others. This games surprises are all going to be down to whatever story, missions and races Hello have cooked up.

Well, I assumed it was, due to the fact that it's well... a part of discussion. Discussions have positions and points people are trying to defend. Otherwise, your post is kinda... well completely useless and is basically "I don't care about the discussion, I came by to say that I am buying the game".

But I guess I am just being weirdly nitpicky, because we all do something as pointless as this from time to time.

He also hasn't directly said there was a universe, as in the galaxies together make up a meaningful greater whole, unless I missed something. Again this is you extrapolating, which multiple people have called you out on in this thread. You really should stop passing off your theories as fact. You might confuse people who think something you're saying is a confirmed feature of the game.

Both ways still have you chasing things you may not get. That cool thing that other person saw in nms can be seen if you can get there. That cool armor that person had in random armor collector game can be yours if you can finish these requirements.

It is, and it seems really daunting. When we show the game off some people are really daunted by it, and they look at the galactic map and they are like, "How would I..." I quite like this. People feel really insignificant, and that's how we want them to feel. We want them to feel vulnerable. We want them to feel like a tiny part of this universe. But, actually, as you upgrade your ship and upgrade your suit and your weapons and stuff, you can travel much further, much easier, and you can take shortcuts as well. Suddenly that galactic map seems less daunting, but it's still a really significant challenge. It's hundreds of hours of gameplay if a player did nothing else.

Hundreds of hours? Either that's a huge estimate, something changed massively between this interview and release, or Mr. Leaker doesn't realize that there's a center of the universe when there actually is.

If there's no universe how does it ultimately alter the view of NMS upon the fans is something I've been wondering while catching up with this thread. Like if the game is super fun but ultimately is a never ending loop.

Yep, you're overthinking this.

I will wait for reviews. If it sucks, I'll get a steam refund. I don't have a one-sided opinion of the game. I'm in the dark, even (which is great, because I'll be potentially surprised).

If people think I'm not contributing to the thread because I'm not complaining / praising it... Oh well !

You're actually also skipping a number of organizational levels there as well to justify this. People use universe to mean the entire setting of a game frequently. At the bare minimum you should realize you're reading more into offhanded comments than most people are.

I imagine it would point you in a general direction. If the game is as big as they claimed it would be impossible to find the middle of the universe without the game guiding you.
 
Are there any space anomalies in the game? Stuff like if you go into some sort of space cloud, time gets all fucked up in there. Black holes? Any sort of weird stuff basically.

He says galactic map because he doesn't want to give away what the secret is at the centre of the universe. He's said that. It's one galaxy after another until you reach the centre of the universe.
 
I bet the guy doesn't realize just how huge the star map is. He might have reached his galaxy center but def not the Universe center.

Probably needs cod markers to show him the way.
