No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

Thats extremely lame. So you basically have already seen what the planet has to offer aesthetically if you land on one and explore for 30 minutes. That defeats the purpose of actually exploring planets to me. Ugh.

It's by design. The point is to craft stuff and move on. It's deliberately designed so you're not staying on one planet too long. Again - this information has always been there, why is anyone surprised?

No Man’s Sky, however, is built specifically to push players to find new places rather than encouraging them to get to know any one place in particular.

"In terms of features,” he says, “in terms of design, decision-making, and stuff, we always say ‘Does this encourage exploration or does it not?’, basically. And we use that to cut out features. So things like base-building: we don't have base-building. And the reason is, it would just make people want to stay where they are and not explore. And we've built this whole huge universe, and that would be a shame! We want them to go out and explore. Or, for instance, each planet could contain loads of different biomes within it, we could have polar ice caps, and all that kind of thing, but then it wouldn't make you want to go and visit other planets. So we don't have that, and that's really purposeful, and that's our kind of vision for the game.

Wow are people really complaining about a game only being 35+ hours. Who has the time/Paitence to dedicate more then that to most games?

I assume the seller is not saying much because it "fell of the back of a truck" (got stolen somewhere in the retail chain)

Yeah, I'm honestly not very interested in this game anymore if the planets are mostly one biome. Not really a huge reason to just walk around and explore a planet then. I wish more science fiction material depicted planets with multiple biomes. I know people do it to give planets more of an identity, but there are more ways to do that than just lazily and unrealistically making an entire planet one biome with little to no variance outside of oceans.

I didn't know about that, and it really bums me out. I'd rather have interesting and varied planets than endless planet hopping.

Never dying in 40 hours of play. Reaching the center in less than 40 hours. Easy to find items making the entire economy moot with so much money you can buy all the fuel you need. Planets not really changing as you travel. 100% of planets have life. Tool seems to get worse as you level it. The level 1 version is the superior version. All ships have same storage. You'll have more storage in your suit than your ship.

The bolded are what have me second-guessing the leak, definitely. Every planet having life especially goes directly against what's been said before about roughly only 10% of planets having life.

Guys, it's not going to be 35 hours for everyone. It was only 35 hours for the leaker because he rushed through to the center and possibly because of a broken game mechanic.

I'd be willing to bet the majority of people are going to take their time and explore much more than he did.

At least use a better word man. It's because of the formula they used come on now

It may have been a playtesting thing. Turns out exploring 90% barren wastelands gets boring.

Bro, this is at least the second time you've said this. You should probably head to a hospital.

Why? I'm like 29 yrs, i dont believe Devs anymore lol. I know they want to hype their game and talk about their vision. But i dont turn out like they wish often.

+ Their comments about "the game is too big, you can't meet up anyone" is kind of weird.

Making me think their online is more asynchro online. Like sharing planet found and all.

With some event/moment in-game where you could meet up people. We already know some story base are "for all player" like the 3 floating guys.

And i'm french, septic is like "I don't believe all words until i see proof". Why a game as "secretive" as this. I think people should be septic and want proof/leak to see how the game is really.

It's not just that, it's the fact that the scans say 'no fauna' on many planets with a random single animal species.

I'm not really buying into the leak thing, but it could well be a bug.

Well, it is a bug, cos either the scanner is buggy or the planet is.

There's only one planet. It's all a lie.

There are a lot of 'hidden' things on planets though. Part of the game is supposed to be finding and naming new species, finding rare resources, and in addition finding strange things like the Obelisks. From what we've seen, it appears like a lot of blueprints require exploration too. So there is reason to explore on the planets.

Septic
:p

Oh, and I did not know that's what that meant to the French... kind of odd reading it in an English convo without context lol.

Skeptic?

I'm not specifically talking about them, Im just annoyed how in science fiction in general planets are like this. I know its by design, but i dont really like that type of design at all. I do think that word is still appropriate though, when you think about earth and all the countless biomes it has i feel like planets in the game should have at least like, 3 or something. Dry areas scattered about and cold area at the ice caps at least. Making planets boring to explore aesthetically in order to encourage planet hopping is a bad move to me.

I think he meant you're using the wrong word. The word you mean is 'sceptical' - septic means you have an infection.

Wow are people really complaining about a game only being 35+ hours. Who has the time/Paitence to dedicate more then that to most games?

It's mostly people who got hyped enough that they said this is the only game they would need ever again.

No one in this thread who kept their hype in check should be disappointed.

Ultimately, this is what the leaker said: "IT'S A GOOD GAME."

It's just not the Messiah some were making it out to be.

Yes, but then you're talking about a different sort of game to what this is, and I think that's going to be many people's problem. It's rather more streamlined than some seem to be imagining.

A lot of the evidence on that link is wrong, though. Eg they highlight the Sony TOS message as evidence it is stolen - but all Sony physical releases now carry that.

Heh, not vouching for it, but the initial link was broken so I was just passing that on :)

In fairness - not very consumer is going to read every interview done over years for a video game. 99% of consumers aren't going to read one interview.

That's true. I guess with the amount of info flying around I assume stuff like this is old news.

Yes - there's actually zero reason to believe it's not the retail release. It's just really buggy, but that's not super surprising.

This thread is the new Game of the Year right here. Amazing stuff. Still not sure what to think but I'm absolutely still getting NMS as soon as it releases. Worst case scenario I get 35 hours of beautiful, if not unbalanced, space exploration.

Haha, no probs. If this game got death threats over the delay press article, imagine how insane it is going to get over it not matching impossibly high expectations from years of press interviews.

I saw one thread where somebody said the leaker MUST be wrong about something because Sean said a feature would in the game.. In a throw away sentence from an interview years ago. And the feature ain't there. And that can't possibly be true.. Because.. That sentence from 2014 said they were working on it. Realistically: this game had 16 people working on it. Assassin's Creed Unity had 800. NMS may well be great - but keep expectations in check.

Basically: oh boy. This is going to be INSANE.

I know :) Stuff like that pineapple creature was cool. And that giant hovering eel thing that made whale noises.

It is pathetic people are thinking CAMP from OS (the one that sold it to the leaker) is making it up.

A little fun fact about OS, people who have been members there for years, know of CAMP, and how good he is at at getting early copies. Hell, that whole site has been known for years in scoring early copies of games with a dedicated thread for it, and people all over with good connects.

Sometimes more so than other online communities in my 10+ years being there.

I realize this is a sensitive subject but I really think that if they had charged $30 instead of $60 (for an indie game none the less) people would be a lot less crazed atm and a lot more forgiving.

Even I am second guessing getting the game at release now at full price especially since Deus Ex is coming so soon...

Still going to wait on reviews though. "Crosses fingers!"

Also, this is why I only pre-order from a seriously select handful of developers.

How much testing could they really have done on this game? Probably should have done incremental releases through free public betas. Seems like the way to go these days.

Damn, I thought previous NMS threads were wild...

As someone who has zero interest in this potential snorefest of a game minus the cool art design, I'm definitely getting a popcorn bag that takes approximately 35 hours to eat to the center of ready for the Review thread.

Pretty much. Feels like they priced it a $60 because they knew hype was high. Even the Witness was dinged for being $40, even though that was the right price for that game imo.

Looks great to me. :/ Did those NMS-cultists think it was going to be everything?

Reading through the leaker's impressions is better then a trip to Balari V:

However, ships HAVE NOT IMPROVED AT ALL throughout the entire course of the game. This is not a joke. I am at the point now where my PERSONAL SUIT has something like 3-4x the total inventory / module slots as my fuckin ship. That seems wrong to me.

Who needs a cargo ship?

Oh yeah, that does suck.

The review thread has the potential to be one of the greatest review thread in GAF history. xD

I find people like this incredibly sad man I don't get it
