With or without updates? Because if he couldn't install the updates correctly, he would take a longer time to destroy anything, like all the survival games (think Iron Pickaxe vs Diamond Pickaxe on Minecraft being used on the same kind of block).
So he could think the upgrades were on, but they weren't, and then went to mine high level stuff. He would think that the upgrades made the weapon worse because at the start he was just blasting through it, and now with the updates (not actually working) it became terrible.

Which is odd. Why would Sony and Hello pick this random ass dude for a sanctioned stream? There's like 2 gigantic NMS Youtubers that would have done this better LOL.

Probably placebo. He was looking so hard for an upgrade, all he thought he could perceive was a mild downgrade? Or maybe there is another mechanic involved that punishes you for bad layout.

You would think that a sanctioned streamer would demonstrate the gameplay better, assuming that demonstration was the purpose for which the stream was sanctioned.
I don't know why Hello Games didn't do a demo like this? My hype is increase right now. Transparency is the best. THIS.IS.THE.GAME.

I'd be a little embarassed for the guy if he made all these false claims about the game because he was just playing it wrong when its so painstakingly obvious.
Nice stream. Have to agree that he isn't an exploration gamer lol. It's a little annoying that these leaks are giving better information than HG has so far.

It would be bonkers to me if the other steamer went through to the center without understanding how to craft upgrades. Someone mentioned he should try different layouts to him and he said "I'll try putting upgrades in different slots when I wake up to see if it does anything" so he had no idea.
Maybe he's red colour blind?
But it changes a lot. It could be what he perceived to be purely cosmetic in ships as well is a product of his misunderstanding.

Also helps this guy is pulling the long end of the stick when it comes to planets.
And it's possible that certain kinds of ships do have layouts and base stats that make them somewhat more viable for combat, trade, or exploration.

Having watched that stream, life seems fairly common. But perhaps that's a Euclid galaxy thing? It may well be set up as a beginners/casual galaxy. It's the only one that's common to everyone. Pure speculation of course. I'll be interested to hear what the next galaxy is like.

Pardon my naivety, but is there any indication that there will be anything resembling cities or signs of intelligent civilization in this game, or do we not know this yet? It just seems off-putting that in the streams I've watched, there seems to be planet after planet with just a single building (a station or manufacturing plant) here and there...unless that ties in to the game's narrative somehow.
I understand it would be a difficult thing to implement, but just wondering if that sort of thing changes when you get closer to the center of the galaxy.

His galaxy, but he made it sound like there isn't really an actual concept of "the universe," as it were, in the game. It just sounds like he hit the center of the galaxy, "beat" the game, and then got plopped into a different galaxy seed. We don't know 100% though.

I mean there's a universe. But the only way to traverse between galaxies is to get to the centre. Maybe you can go back to previous galaxies though?

He hasn't played it or posted about it yet. The galaxy didn't change going towards the centre though.
I'm going to hazard a guess that the galaxies get harder/weirder in a NG+ sort of way, maybe.

Not according to the streamer, no. In fact, he was saying that the first galaxy didn't even get much weirder/more surreal/alien as it went on towards the center. Of course, that's subjective, so we don't know for sure if he's right, if he just had an unfortunate galaxy seed, or if the game just isn't as varied/weird as we may have hoped.
From the second stream, I already saw a creature that was weirder than most things I saw in the first - that elephant sized land... Squid.
I wonder how you even measure "more weird" than that.

He was also jumping star systems with his ship using a method of using easily obtainable unlimited fuel. Sean has said in the past that a good way to find the crazy planets is to use the portals that have been showcased in videos in the past. That particular player did not search the planet surfaces and take advantage of those so.. still some mystery happening. Dude rushed to the center.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a black hole at the center of each galaxy, that warps us to a new galaxy.

Yeah, like I said, it's pretty subjective. Plus, it's relying on procedural generation, too, so it is quite possible that someone could just simply not see anything that really came across as weird to them. So it goes.
What I would have assumed/hoped "more alien/mutated" meant (which is what Murray said in the interview about this) is more hostile or at least more interesting behaviors than the extremely docile creature routines we've seen so far. Perhaps more "unique" creatures too, like that giant serpent from one of the trailers.
The leaner suggested that the principal difference between ships is their appearance, and that any ship could do anything. But if he did not understand how upgrades work or how ships may have inherent stats, he might not have realized how different ships could be.
That's what the first streamer said. After the first galaxy there's another. But he hasn't played it yet.
The first galaxy is always Euclid, so all streamers have played the same one so far. If galaxies have particular characteristics then it could explain the abundant life and resources there. If it's sticking with a roguelike structure then the next should be harder, and so on.
Also there may be some centre of the galaxy vs x centre of the universe confusion regarding the increasing 'weirdness'.
Only caught a tiny portion of the guy flying into space earlier. How was the stream? I imagine the guy was pretty early on, but did there seem to be a greater breadth of worlds than suggested by the first leaker? Any actual nasty, lifeless worlds? Did the dude struggle/die? Nice to hear about some large terrain features.

That...makes it sound like it could be a tutorial galaxy or something. Same galaxy for both, abundant life and resources, etc.
A giant ameboid creature that had a mix of angler like features and a virus.
Oh Jesus. I hope he enjoyed it for the music and visuals.
I don't know. I just know it's the same for everyone, it's full of life, you can blast through it pretty quickly and it's hard to die.
