No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

If this game is hard to learn and people are missing crucial stuff, like upgrades and etc, just imagine the reviews.

It will get slaughtered. I'm already seeing the 7 from Polygon and the 20 pages talking just about that on the review thread, plus the bans, etc.

I'll be too busy harvesting planets and exploring with my jaw on the ground to even care.

If you look at the elements, they're planets with moons surrounding them. Some have 1, some have 2 and I believe some have 3. I wonder if that's got something to do with it?

These actually seem to represent rarity. 1 sphere = common, 2 spheres = uncommon, 3 spheres = rare.

"Wait for //build."

Yeah, reviews in a game that A. doesn't explain (apparently) all of the details of some big gameplay stuff and B. provides a functionally random set of worlds to explore which might either suck, be barren, or totally fail to show off something cool, is going to result in some very interesting reviews.

Do we even know if reviewers have their copies yet? I'm used to there being at least a few people on GAF talking about having a review copy of a game, even if they can't say anything yet, but I haven't heard a peep on NMS.

I wish the inventory stacks were larger than 100. It looks like mining a few things easily gives you 100's of elements, which is cool, but management seems annoying. At least until you get a suit like the leaker has.

Don't know if this has been asked, does the PC version have an unlocked frame rate?

We know absolutely nothing about the PC version.

You sure they aren't molecules...? They're supposed to represent periodical elements. Not sure if sarcasm or not, sorry.

They are molecules but with this being NMS I thought perhaps there was some connection. Perhaps if we see them as planets and moons something will become clearer ... I don't know, I'm just speculating lol

So when does the review embargo drop for this game? Its better not be release day, from the hours of stream footage Ive seen its been underwhelming :(

Man this "retrodigital" stream is really good. He's fucking around in low orbit and it's amazing looking. Expected flaws and all - I'm in like Flynn when this game is out.

Yep. Like I said before, I can forgive it for some quirks, niggles and things it does not do because of what it does do.

Like I said, it's supposed to look like molecules, but it represents rarity. As far as I've seen there are nine "Primary" elements of red, blue and yellow colors and "Neutral" elements which are green. Here's what I got so far:

Code:
Isotopes (Red)
Carbon (Common) - living things - used for activating terminals
    Thamium9 (Uncommon) - red plants
Plutonium (Rare) - red spiky rocks

Silicates (Blue)
Heridium (Common) - alien looking dome monoliths
    Platinum (Uncommon) - blue plants
    Chrysonite (Rare)

Oxides (Yellow)
Iron (Common) - used for "check stock" panels
    Zinc (Uncommon) - yellow plants
Titanium (Rare) - yellow spiky rocks

Neutral
    Nickel (Green, Uncommon)
Emeril (Green, Rare) - alien looking cubical monoliths
    Iridium (Green)

Is it confirmed that he wasn't slotting the tool correctly or is that all just assumptions people are making? I never saw if it was answered one way or another but staunch defenders of the game seem to maintain this as gospel.

He actually tried to put the upgrades in different slots, the mining beam Cooling system and the ship fire rate upgrades seem to be bugged (they nerf the multitool instead of buffing it)

GAF - I'm unable to watch streams at the moment, and don't really want too many spoilers. My question - based on what has been shown, does the game appear to be the one Sean promised us and simply has bugs/issues needing attention, or are his claims of what this game is appear to be false/fraudulent?

Yeah I mean the majority of stuff people seem bothered by (too many aliens, weird item balance, too easy) seem easily patchable, meanwhile... the game SEAMLESSLY renders a giant galaxy in which you can land and take off freely from planets and space stations, and it has 18 quintillion motherfucking planets. It does what it promised to do - we see that already. That alone is worth the price of admission to me - even if the game might be imperfect.

The game is 100% what they have promoted it as.

It might be what Sean said, but most definitely not what many people expected. The hype surrounding this game will hurt it a lot.

Yes. It looks like the game we have been shown and we have even seen some of the paradise worlds as well. They are there.

It depends on your understanding of Sean's so-called "promises".

To me, it looks like the game they've shown us.

To other delusional individuals: it's shit or jesus in disguise.

Your choice. xD

I had to grab a screen from that same moment. It looks so cool.

The former imo. Seen so little of the game really

Yes it appears to be exactly what was promised - but not very much more than that. If you were excited by the actual marketing and promises made, you'll probably really enjoy the game. If you were excited because of some nebulous fantasy version of the game that you imagined, expect to be disappointed.

Nothing false or fraudulent.

Some of the more speculative ideas seem not to have panned out, and other stuff may not be 100% great, but it's what I expected based on interviews and stuff.

[quote="Kinitari, post: 212139399"]Yeah, I'm going to rewatch some streams today, but whenever a streamer finds a new tool, there is a compare screen. In that or just your inventory screen, you can see circular stats for weapon, armor and ships. I don't think these are just about the upgrades you've put in, but they seem to describe innate strengths -and maybe- weaknesses. His crazy weapon tool seemed to have 'weakness' colours (dull yellow as well as low bars) associated with the laser stat, which might indicate not just it being bad at scaling with upgrades, but maybe it having penalties with some upgrade types - it seemed like it had a shitload of positive stats for projectiles.

If this carries true for ships as well, it may be that daymeeuhn completely doesn't realize that these different skins are actually of different stats as well.

Heck, who knows, maybe there's even more about crafting that we are not realizing. I remember in a very recent video, they talk about crafting mechanics a bit and I think i remember them saying that the layout plays an important role - maybe you get bonuses the shapes of the linked up upgrades too (complete conjecture).[/QUOTE]

This has been answered by daymeeuhn.

[QUOTE=daymeehun]The stats are a direct representation of the upgrades you've installed on them.

That's... how the game works. It's the same for your multi tool. When you install upgrades it boosts the radial on that weapon indicating the strengths of your weapon. So when you compare another multi tool, and see the different radials, it shows you how the set-up on the new multi tool balances out to your current one.
While it creates "stats" it's kind of all arbitrary since you can just re-mix-match it up to be whatever you ultimately want it to be otherwise.

They aren't, because all the upgrades are equal on the different ships. The ships only variance is the total # of modules available, and right now in the current version that # is much lower than it should be. Like, way way lower. I have 2-3x the # of modules on my SUIT than on my ship. I'm hoping with the day 1 patch they drastically increase the scaling of the # of modules on the ships as you progress.

The game scales as you progress toward the center. It's evident especially with your multitool - as I got closer, the ones available to me slowly creeped up in power.
For whatever reason, the ships simply never have. It's ENTIRELY possible that somehow, in some way, there's a way to actually physically ADD a module to the ship in the same way you do the suit, but I think if it existed I would have found it by now, so I don't think there is. It just seems like ships aren't really scaling up in power parallel to the multi tool and it feels like they should.

The mining beam is definitely bugged and it has nothing to do with inventory position: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4mnp5i_beam-bug-in-action_videogames

The mining heat goes really fast up, faster than what we're seeing in streams of people just starting out, and the rate goes down when he dismantles the upgrades that are supposed to help.

I'm really surprised the game was sent to manufacturing with such an obvious bug. Will reviewers be getting this game early? Most of them will have to say they can't properly comment on the progression system if it's that bugged during the pre-release period. The same goes for the bug with the fish swimming vertically facing the ground.

If only a couple of people have access to the game and are seeing bugs like this I don't know what's going to happen once they release it to the massess.

As others have said this is a common developer command - reverse leveling. Such a strangely specific bug.

I don't think it's a "developer command" (Never heard of inverse leveling being used by developers) but rather someone just mistakenly put a plus sign where it should have been a minus sign. But that bugs like these managed to slip through QA either means there was little to no QA or they're rushing the game to avoid further delays.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but are the planets spherical? Like can you walk or fly all the way around the surface to come back to where you were? Or do you just land on a planet that has a playable area?

Thanks GAF, the responses are appreciated!

If the game appears to be in alignment with the information we've received, I will keep my pre-order and time off to play.

Thank you!

The planets are planets. 100% traversable if you were the kind of crazy person to try such a thing.

Every planet is a life-sized planet (earth-like, they said).

You can orbit around it, walk, fly, swim, etc.

Yes, you can go round it.

My thoughts are it could not be a bug, but tied to the base stats of the weapon. Maybe it is a bug, but my gut is telling me there is more we're missing regarding positioning. I personally was nagging daymeeuhn to try different positions, and now we see there is color coding to the highlights when positioned correctly, there are also colors associated with a weapons stats, at different levels - I think this is the core of the issue. The weapon he is using has a lot of colors with high stats around projectile, but different colors with low stats around laser - his laser upgrades are blue, but he has no blue stats on his laser stat.

I can't quite understand the relationship yet, but I think this determines base stats and compatibility with upgrade types. Maybe a bad campatibility gives you a punishment.

It sure does look great.

This has been answered by daymeeuhn.
It sounds like I'm on the right path here, because you can see that it doesn't exactly match up with what he is describing. Check out the video he shared and look at the bars for the weapon he is testing with. He has nearly as many beam upgrades that are highlighted blue as projectile upgrades highlighted red (was it red?) - but the stats on the side look drastically different. I think those stats might have some sort of relationship with base stats, and certain tools work better with certain upgrades.

I could be entirely wrong, and it really could just be a bug though. Still, watch that video and pause for the second or two you can see the stats.
