Kind of childish/pathetic is a mod can't come to terms with the game and how disappointing it is to so many people, but I don't feel like a toxic, hateful echo chamber is any better than a circlejerk either.

This would make an awesome template for parody posts. Just replace "No Man's Sky" with any other game, and "Sean Murray" with the name of the studio. Also replace "Procedurally generated" with just about anything.

Garbage mod. Instead of moderating threads/posts that is against the subreddit's rules like he's supposed to, he opted to nuke the entire thing?! If every reddit mod is like that the entire site would shut down overnight.

I mean considering the content on that subreddit I don't blame them. Some people were literally crazy and there was very little discussion about the actual game. Just "DAE Sean Murray should speak to us more?" followed with "I hope he dies" x10 in the comments.

The sheer volume of shitposts per day on that sub pretty much means if you're going to moderate it, there's zero content at this point. It had become the video game version of /r/the_donald.

It became so unbearable that I unsubbed from it like two weeks ago. Nuking it was the correct course of action.

His only other comments on No Man's Sky are from an entirely different subreddit, called Writing Prompts. It's an independent community where people propose story ideas or concepts, and then others write stories around those ideas. The prompt for one story was a spin on the Last Starfighter:
"No Man's Sky is actually a secret military experiment designed to find candidates who are capable of withstanding the monotonous task of inhabiting dull and boring worlds. You are chosen because you have the most time logged in the game out of anyone else in the world -- a whopping 42 hours."

Dogesajob responds with

I think it's fun for a small subset of the people interested in the game (of which I am one, sort of). The OT's still going with people posting their discoveries and whatnot. But it also turns out that the people asking "what do you DO in the game" were right to ask. It's an ambitious and interesting game that nevertheless feels like a failure to a lot of people, compounded with some very significant PR blunders.
