No one playing Phoenix Wright 3?

Literally just finished the game, sooo damn good. But I have to say I am bit torn, PWAA is still my favorite of the bunch. Godot was amazing, but I was kind of pissed that none of the cases went beyond 3 days(2 court days). Having not one, but three 4 day trials, two of which were completely amazing in PWAA was pure gaming bliss.

If I were to my top 5 cases in order of favorite it would go:

Rise from the Ashes: PWAA

Turnabout Goodbye: PWAA

Reunion, And Turnabout: PWJFA

Turnabout Beginnings: PWT&T

Turnabout Sisters: PWAA

I finally finished the game. :D Despite the flaws, case 5 was still pretty good. One thing I' m sad about is
Godot not being in the credits. I was kind of hoping to see him remove his mask or something.
I have to say Godot was one great character, he has probably generated the most emotional response out of all of the characters.

Edit: One thing I really hope PW4 has is an epilogue. I would really like to find out what happens to the characters after this.

Edit2: Overall I think I enjoyed case 3 the most.

I got my PW plushie a few days ago, but today I got an email from Capcom apologizing for the shipment delay. They're apparently allocated for capcom.com preorders way fewer than expected, and won't be able to ship my order out until next week at the earliest. But at least I got a 10% off coupon for my next order.

So, is there any other Capcom game worth ordering from their site?

Yeah, I vehemently disagree with your reasoning. That's pretty much like saying that keeping the same cast of your favorite TV show from season to season automatically makes it get stale after a while. It doesn't. If the writing goes stale, then yes, the characters will too. However, that's not the case with Phoenix Wright yet. The truth is they got a new cast, because it's a new system. This switching of main characters is no different from Raiden usurping the lead role from Solid Snake in MGS2, and we know how that turned out.

That said, I have no problem with introducing new blood into the series, since I like that they ended on a high-note with a pseudo trilogy. My problem, however, is that I've already heard mixed impressions about AA4. Pretty much everything I have read boils down to: "Fun gameplay stuff, but boring cast and writing." This is exactly what I didn't want to happen - a boost to the gameplay at the expense of the characters and story. Who plays a (semi)PnC adventure for gameplay? I don't, even though it definitely doesn't hurt.
First of all, no on the Raiden analogy, because he was and is significant to the MGS canon. From the way I see it, PW3 didn't have brilliant writing. The last case didn't do it for me at all. I dreaded much of the game, especially when I was stuck. As someone said before me, the PW series feels like it got splinter-celled, or in other words: "First game was awesome; sequels were more of the same but second one was still fresh; third one was just boring"

Personally, I haven't followed anything that anyone's said about Apollo Justice, and regardless of what's been said, I'll probably buy it anyways. If anything, I imagine the writing isn't as good as the previous games because of the series' fatigue, which was bound to happen.

Grecco said:
Not really Great Writing can overcome staleness. The fact that its "made for DS" would have covered that possible repetitive stuff too. In the end i love the PW cast just the same as a cast of a TV show. Wont be the same without em.
Of course it won't be the same without them, but that doesn't mean you'll have your memory of them tainted, either. That's one of the reasons why I'm glad they left the PW cast as it is. If they dragged it on, I can only imagine how redundant the series would've gotten.

Oh my god I finally made it to case 4. I was making such a big fuss earlier but now PW3 just might be my favorite of the Trilogy.:D

Is it me or is Case 4 way easier the than Case 2 and 3? Case 3 kind of stumped me at first but once I talked to Violetta Case 3 got very easy too.

What? Chaos Theory is the best Splinter Cell, not the worst. So, in hindsight, you're right. Phoenix Wright has been 'splinter-celled', since the 2nd is the worst of the three and the last is the best. Good stuff.

Also, I will be buying Apollo Justice. I never said I wasn't. I'm just not overly excited for it, because they got rid of the cast, which is a completely valid complaint.

its not just you. Case 4 feels like the real "intro case" compared to Case 1

I know I'm very late for this thread, i just got my copy. Usually I import it and play it early, but man I've been lazy with PW3. Anyway, I finished Case 1 and loved it. Really glad to be back in the Phoenix Wright swing of things.

I don't have PW3 yet -- but its release inspired me to get back to part 2, which I left off at the end of Act 2. I really loved the original game, and enjoyed the first part of PW2... but I'm really finding it frustrating now, and it's because of that damn health bar in the trial portion.

Yes, I realize it's there to make it seem more hardcore. But I really wish they'd either A) get rid of it or B) give you more save options during this portion of the game. It sucks all the fun out when you're forced to waste 10-15 minutes of forwarding through the same text you've already read 2-3 times because you got stuck on a case and had to guess -- or you presented the right evidence but in a way which the game didn't like.

At least recharge the damn bar when you change witnesses for crying out loud.

Press Start anytime during the game to Save

Um, you can save at anytime. It's not a quicksave either. In other words, it won't disappear when you load it.

Not in the trial portion you can't.

Yes, you can. When you are cross-examining someone, you can save at any time.

You played through the entire first game without knowing you can save at pretty much anytime?

:lol :lol :lol

I would have thrown the game against the wall in frustration.

I learned right after I beat it that I could save during the trail

I finally bought it... Gamestop fucked up my preorder, so I cancelled it. I tried to buy it at the gamestop near my apartment, but they didn't have it, so I just ordered it on amazon.

I think the only time you cant save is when they force you to present evidence of some kind. Besides that you can save just about anywhere. Good thing too because sometimes......the stuff you have to present is way out there.

Really? I thought most of the solutions in Case 4 were really strange and obtuse. I thought it was (from a puzzle-solving perspective) the low point of the entire series. I ended up just FAQing my way through most of it.

Case 5 had a few frustrating solutions too, but the story more than made up for it.

Yeah, you can't save at every single point in the game - if you're supposed to present evidence outside a cross-examination, you're usually not allowed to save there. Otherwise it's more or less anytime.

So save early/save often, and you'll do fine.

And for no reason, more maid outfits.

This is unfortunate because the PW games thrive on their characters and story. The last trial in PW 2 was phenomenal. I am still looking forward to AA4, but the developers should understand that the catch of these games is mostly the writing. This isn't exactly ground breaking game play here.

I just beat Trials and Tribulations last night. I thought it was a great game. I didn't like the Tres Bien and Mask*DeMaque cases as much as the others though. I thought those got too confusing for their own good with the
mirrors and faking of the crimes
and stuff. The last case was amazing and the ending was very satisfying on every level except that
we never find out if Maya and Phoenix actually hook up or what.

Mega-Spoiler... PLEASE don't read if you haven't beaten the game
Phoenix and Iris still have the hots for each other

Just as big mega-spoiler for those who don't know shit about AA4

Phoenix had the hots for her but nothing came to be and he became a hobo

Love the "we all know whose milkshake brings all the boys to the yard" joke when Payne and the Judge gush over Phoenix 's girlfriend! [/spoiler]

Really? I've been kind of disappointed at the writing. Sure it's always been light, but I wonder if they've gone too far this time.

That was the biggest load of cop out bullshit ever btw.

Lame as hell. :/

Do they
fix that by the end of the game?

As far as I know this problem hasn't been resolved, hopefully unanswered threads like this will be resolved in the 5th iteration of the game.

I mean, there are a couple of things I was wondering regarding Case 5 in AA3 and my interpretation is that these things were not developed enough in the game.
-Case 5
It was implied that Pearl Fey was in the audience when she heard the summoned Dahlia Hawethorne giving the testimony. Hence why she left in sadness and desperation at the end of the trial as a form of repentance. At the same time, she also found out that Iris is her big sister. We don't know the dynamic of the sisters and how they are to each other after the game.
-Case 5
Phoenix has a romantic interest in Iris, and it shows in the end of Case 5 and in the credits of the game. We also know that Iris in incarcerated as an accomplice, hence why she is still in jail on the Credits (that presumably take place a short period after the game). My question would be why did they break off the romantic interest in the 7 year timespan between the 3rd game and the fourth game.

I know I wasn't the only one cheering for this relationship because
Phoenix hooks up with someone that is perfect for him, but we know the events that predate the 4th game stop this development
. In effect, I hate capcom for doing such a thing and hopefully the 5th one will be better.

Why won't Capcom ship my copy? I got the plushie almost a week ago. :/

We got the same email you did above, but haven't even gotten the plushie yet. This is amazing fucking bullshit on their part. I literally refuse to buy any Capcom products new anymore. I'll buy shit used or probably just rent it. Seriously, how do you preorder directly from the company two months in advance, and now the game has been out for weeks and you still don't have it? Seriously, what the fucking hell? Canceling RE: UC preorder (being serious, not meme).

I guess this is
one of the things people don't like about GS4 :/

Not to mention
the whole no Maya, etc. thing...

I don't get it either. Though it's quite odd that they shipped out the plushie to me separately, and in a shockingly huge box! It's pretty staggering, really.

Zvarri!

I'm at the Bridge to Turnabout mission (aka the final one) and I'm loving Phoenix Wright all over again. I loved the first one, got burned out on the second one, but this one is making me happy again. All the people popping up from PW1 and PW2 are great.

Seeing all the spoiler text makes me want to beat the game FAST though. :lol

PS. The one thing that still pisses me off most about these games is when you figure out why something has to be a contradiction, but you have to use a specific something else to point out what the computer wants to be a contradiction. I just want to yell through the game "BECAUSE SHE CAN'T FUCKING SEE THAT SHIT, THAT'S WHY!!!"

I think they originally didn't have Phoenix in GS4 at all, but got pressured to put him in, and that's why the one real remaining plot thread doesn't tie up.

I'm playing now and on the second case. I want to read about the game here but the slight possibility of accidentally reading a spoiler frightens me enough that I only browse this thread with a hand over my face and after converting it to Spanish via Babel Fish.

Oh shi... have any of you guys heard the Phoenix Wright OST done in orchestra? wtf it's awesome! (there is an OST in jazz too) :D

Beat it a few days ago. PW:T&T is my favorite game just because of the last case. I love how the 1st, 4th, and 5th all connect with each other.

Case 5 is awesome just because early case 5 spoilers
EDGEWORTH!!!!! It was awesome using him

i got the original japanese version and played it non stop, but got stuck on episode 2, when i loaded up the next day it said my save was corrupt, so until this week i had stopped. I busted through it and just beat it this morning at 2am. I love PW so much.. the writing is just incredible.. it never manages to throw me off the scent, or even lull me into a false sense of security
i actually thought it was Pearl who killed Misty/Dahlia, which was why Maya was covering up
I hated episode 2 for the obvious reason that I had to play the entire thing two fucking times, but my fav was ep5. I REALLY do hope that they drop this "spirit channelling" stuff from Apollo Creed because I prefer the "real" crimes. Roll on AC:AA

I just started Case 4 last night, really nice intro I thought. Plus the initial surprises. :) Case 3 disappointed me a bit though, and I've never been disappointed in PW before. I found the only challenging parts were just figuring out how to progress the investigation events. =/ That and I didn't like the characters too much, though I loved the guys in Case 2.

Also given some of the spoilers I've run across here, haven't read them though, it seems that GS4 ties into the other 3 somewhat. I certainly hope so anyway, I'm going to be really saddened to see this cast go once I finish Case 4. :X
