No Split Screen in Titanfall

Given how crowded the hud already is, split screen would be horrible on anything but the largest of TV's, and even then not sure how great that would be.

I don't get it though, the game doesn't look much better than COD, is 6v6, might even run at a lower resolution, and can't do Split-screen (even though it's entirely MP based). Is Respawn getting rushed or something? More and more I feel like Titanfall is just a test run for Titanfall 2.

The amount of idiotic analogies in this thread is alarming. Some people play games for the fun of it. Or to even just hang out and socialize with friends while doing so. Not everybody will be playing the game to "WIN" every single time. Sometimes having only half the screen size you would have doesnt matter...

When you invite someone over to your house to game or whatever, would you rather take turns watching each other play, or play at the same time so no one gets left out? Not being able to play at the same time together kills that sense of camaraderie. A big reason Halo got so big was the ability to play with friends against others locally or online. That was where the real fun was found imho.

Again, I hope this is added in Titanfall 2. Would greatly boost the games appeal, for me at least.

Remember when we used to not have 50" TVs and played splitscreen just fine on 32" or less? I sure do and it was fine.

Dunno. Maybe they thought that having all the wall-running and increased vertical combat would make split-screen really horrible to play. Most of the popular split-screen games, especially FPS games, are all pretty horizontal when it comes to combat.

The idea of two people playing an online multiplayer game together whilst being in the same house together makes me feel kinda sad. It's like texting someone who's sat on the same sofa as you.

Or it's like going to watch a movie together with someone, or going to the mall or a restaurant with them - you're socializing and enjoying an activity together..

Thing is, you'll need two consoles and two games to play with a friend via online multiplayer.

Infinity Ward also never bothered putting online splitscreen into CoD until Treyarchs did it with Black Ops. It seems like Zampella and co. are just not really interested in it.

Didn't think of that. All the vertical gameplay might be a bit frustrating on a splitscreen.

Yup.

The first game to do split screen shooting this gen is going to do massive numbers IMO. It will probably be Destiny or Halo 5.
Cod Ghosts already has split screen. On and offline

Starhawk has you covered if you are worried about field of view. It isn't perfect, but it opens up the FOV more.

edit: I know it isn't an FPS, but there are work arounds for everything. Respawn are smart people, they could figure something out.

Correction, the first GOOD game to do 4 player split screen will do massive numbers.

All of that jumping around etc could lead to some nasty motion-sickness. As you split the screens, it makes it harder and harder to see around you to know where to jump to next, or where fire is coming from.

More options is good but who would play with a 640x480 or 320x200 resolution and half the diagonal size of thz screen ?

That's actually a pretty brilliant way to implement split screen while maintaining the proper aspect ratios and not ruining the player's FOV.

That's actually a very good point. As I said earlier I wasnt expecting titanfall to have local mp anyways but this makes a lot of sense

There are workarounds lime racer suggested but it is a well considered point

Halo
Borderlands
Call Of Duty
Left 4 Dead
Resistance
Resident Evil
Gears of War
Portal 2
Army of Two
Uncharted 3
Killzone 3
.
Warhawk
Gran Turismo
Most NFS games

Its funny that a multiplayer only game has no splitscreen MP, especially since it has bots so four guys can duke it out and it would still not feel empty.

As if I needed another reason not to buy this game at the full $60.

Can't say I'm surprised though.

Its becoming harder and harder to justify paying full price for half a game

People just dont play Splitscreen anymore, especially in this kind of game

All these youngins...

We played and LOVED four player split screen GoldenEye on our 19 and 22" sets. No one complained.

Putting the OPTION in there won't hurt shit, and would only go to serve the game's sales.

If you're sitting beside each other, can see each other's screens, and can talk directly to each other (rather than through a headset), it's identical to local multiplayer, except you each have your own full screen.
That's fine, I have no problems with that.

Except you need two of the same console, two copies of the same game, two subscriptions to PS Plus/XBL and two TVs. Which is pretty ridiculous and expensive when a much simpler solution exists called splitscreen.

I'm sure it is possible to lower the graphical fidelity and physics to include split screen but maybe that is too much work. Where is the power of the cloud?

Bungie please save split screening

Usually devs say they do not want to downgrade the graphics hence no split screening

But TITANFALL is based off the source engine so they aren't really losing much like COD

I dont understand how graphics are being saved? You're still putting the same amount of pixels on the screen. Any visual effects added from the extra screen are nullified due to the fact that each screen now only renders 50% of the surrounding environment.

Remember when we used to not have 50" TVs and played splitscreen just fine on 32" or less? I sure do and it was fine.

I remember my friend getting pushed and Fighting over 2 player split screen, and single player screens, so that they didn't get on the 4 player split screen. Oh man and the fights over the 3 player split screen was ridiculous too. If it's a game where you don't share one screen like a Shmup or a Fighting game, then I don't care about local multiplayer.

I've been gaming since the 80s and I say good riddance. My wife and I will be playing on 2 separate PCs...

Plus it also helps that the game is also only 45 bucks this weekend on Green Man Gaming.

Oh jeez, the internet and their splitscreen. Splitscreen is dead, and thank god for that. I'm sorry but jumping around from wall to wall with a FOV like that is terrible. Have you guys played CoD splitscreen? You have to constantly make your camera go up as you run. It's just not worth implanting it for a small minority of users.

Edit: May have been a little to rash when originally typing, was in a mood, sorry, I apologize. What I mean though is that splt screen is just not right for this type of game. I think it can work fine in some games like L4D or RE, but a fast paced game where you have to look up and down fast is just appropriate for an audience like split-screening. Tbh, I guess the option could be implanted if people really want it, but I think they will be at a horrible disadvantage even worse than CoD.

Yeah fuck playing with your friends together.

environment occlusion is one thing - games often don't render everything around you at once, only what you can see. When you have two players controlling two independent cameras it's not just the 'number of pixels' that matters because now the game is rendering two different viewpoints in potentially two different locations on a map. It's closer to the kind of strain 3D puts on a game's performance.

Majority of people in this thread have played split screen halo and CoD and have fun doing so. I dont even recall moving camera up as I run. Why do you care about a mode that you wouldnt use? Its an option that a lot of people still use today if its implemented, why do you care?

Local multiplayer/splitscreen is a ton of fun.

Man, they are stripping everything out that doesn't fit into a very specific vision aren't they. I hope it works out for them. But I think it's their extreme adherence to this vision that is likely making it difficult to market.

Splitscreen is dead, and thank god for that.

What is it with this type of thinking? If you don't like split screen that's perfectly fine, but why should other people who enjoy playing with their friends in person get shafted? You're not forced to use it, so why complain about it being there.
