No Split Screen in Titanfall

My guess is that if they supported it on the Xbox One they'd have to support it on the 360 and the 360 doesn't have the power.

Zampella has already stated that the 360 version will have "key differences", so I don't know if that theory really holds up. To me, it seems like Respawn is making the game they want to make for the One/PC, and the still-unnamed developer making the 360 version will have to scale it back from there.

I think the game could have had split-screen if they really wanted it to, but for some reason they just felt that it didn't need it. I personally think that it should be in the game, and I hope in the future Respawn can more clearly articulate some of their questionable design decisions surrounding this game.

As I said before, I'll be playing this on PC and I don't personally care about split-screen in any way, but there is clearly a demand for it. Seems odd for it not to be there, as it was in Call of Duty.

DICE was able to scale BF3 and BF4 very well for 360 and PS3. It still retains the same experience that the PC/PS4/X1 has but on a smaller scale.
It's all about on how the game was designed and much they are willing to optimize and cut out

I tried pre-ordering from GMG yesterday with their 25% off code, but it wouldn't accept it. I'm assuming it's one of the "Excluded titles" and that there will be a specific Titanfall coupon closer to release.

yeah it was a titanfall specific code

I think Battlefield 3 and 4 on last-gen consoles are gimped pieces of shit that aren't worthy of anyone's time, but that's just me. Sales show differently.

People will buy the game for the system they own, even knowing they're not getting the best experience possible. Titanfall on 360 will sell a shit-ton, I'm fully assuming it will be the best selling SKU of the game.

I'm really disappointed with the lack of split screen games nowadays. That is usually the primary reason I play a game on a console in the first place.

The graphics dont look that great.(imo)
No single player
No split screen.
6v6 max

The game better have a shit ton of maps and modes to make up for the 60 dollar price tag

for 60$ this game better come with 20 or more maps. no split screen, no different game modes(might be announced), no single player seems less likely i will pick up this game.

On the other hand I think it's reasonable to suggest that Titanfall is missing some of it's goodies in large part due to time constraints.

The people that they catered to and supported them were mostly there because of CoD4 and MW2's MP and even if they wanted to do SP, they can't due to manpower. Some of them expressed that in interviews. Their small team is one of the reasons why the game was declared an exclusive to Xbox (and eventually coming to PS3/4) initially. Microsoft's cloud network appealed to the game they were going for.

On their forums, it was heavily implied that they were going to have a huge MP focus with some of the threads that were created and what was discussed. The small community that was there since the forums opened up was always talking about balance, maps, etc. A few sites even reported that it will be MP focused last year.

Time constraints cannot be one of the factors that play in to "missing goodies."

I wouldn't be surprised if they come out and say that they didn't want to implement a shoddy splitscreen feature and it was low on their priority list.

Personal opinion, but this game seems like a terrible value proposition to me and went from a day 1 to waiting for a $20 or more price cut. Online only with no single player or co-op, no split screen for playing with friends at my dorm, and then as far as revealed content we have 3 mechs, 3 maps, and 2 game types. Maybe Respawn will blow our minds and have a ton of content, but I'm not seeing it right now and compared to a game like COD4 it seems like a step down.

Have people been tweeting Respawn about the Map Count? I would assume they would at least drop a hint, like "There will be more than 8 maps, less than 20 maps!" or something if they really don't want to reveal the exact map count.

I would assume simply asking them they would give some details about the Map Count, considering it is a crucial aspect of an online only game. Unless there is something "special" about he number of maps and they want to wait to reveal it or have it be some exclusive news story they are going to give to a specific site.

As for Split Screen, I agree with what has been posted earlier, I have never thought it would have it, and the real story or news or SHOCKING NEWS would be if it did. Maybe them co-developing it for PC has something to do with that. I am just guessing. Or, just think of how much carnage would be on screen with potentially 12 Titans running around on the screen, and that being displayed within "2 screens" via split screen ,from 2 totally different perspectives. That would be extremely taxing on the 360 version I would assume.

Wait did Respawn say if the game had a offline mode?
As in playing matches with just bots? As in bots taking the place of actual players. Not the cannon fodder AI that runs around the maps. I'm assuming no right?

I don't know if they've actually come right out and said that the game will have absolutely no offline functionality at all, but I think it's pretty safe to assume that it won't.

The Alpha revealed that there will be a training mode, but that's... yeah.

Local multiplayer all the way, I never understand people that seem to mock or look down on it. That's part of the reason I love my Wii U so much, its actually made the effort to resurrect local multiplayer

I think there is a time for local multiplayer stuff. Some of my fond memories are from local split-screen games but once you have larger online games, something just changes that makes it seem more fun. Competitive split-screen is just prone to too much cheating, even with friends. Damn screen watchers. :D

A game does not have to do everything to appeal to everyone. I think people should wait to see what the game actually offers before slamming it.

Are people really so introverted and antisocial that they can't even imagine a group of people in the same room wanting to participate in a game together simultaneously?

I can't believe people are actually defending the lack of options to play local multiplayer

Standards are getting pretty low for a 60 dollar purchase.

The oddest justification is pretending it's dead when the most popular FPS franchise has been doing it for years.

People dismissing the demand clearly weren't paying attention to the amount of Gamertag(1)s that played Halo and Gears (and I'm guessing COD too).

That hasn't been the core demographic for a console FPS for almost 10 years. Even when we do get it, it's usually just 2 player.

The times aren't changing, they changed some time ago.

Save us Halo!!! It's so fucking stupid that games can't come with a split screen. It's not ideal but when friends are over it's a blast.
Yeah, but there were soo many times that instead of having more than one tv, we would put 4 of us on a big screen and it was good enough. Or when we did have 2 TV's, we did 2 and 2 still.

I miss the days of playing all those co-op games split screen with friends. I mean do most kids just play at their respective homes while playing together online? I thought it was always way more fun to go over by someone, or have someone come over.

Pretty obvious Respawn is sticking to a narrow vision of what it wants to do and not letting anything superfluous to that goal get in the way. And I applaud them for it.

Shame I'll never get to play the damn thing.

splitscreen died a long time ago.

"Want to play halo or CoD?"

"Fuck u, you screen watching ass BITCH!!!!"

:/

No split-screen? Shouldn't charge more than $55 for the game then as that is around a $5 feature. No single-player, that is about a $20 feature, so the game should probably come in around $35 as per my estimation of feature costs. Wait, I forgot it was only 6 vs 6. That means probably another $10 off. So actually, Titanfall is a $25 game.

lol. Since I was gonna get it on 360 anyway, Ill wait for impressions to come out for that version. If not favorable ill get it when its around 30-35 bucks

Personally I think it should be a $15 download. That's about what I'd be willing to pay.

Starting to wonder why this game got so many accolades and so much attention from "journalists" back at E3. Sounds like it's basically deathmatch with mechs, limited to 6v6, no 1p campaign, no split screen for co-op, unknown number of maps, but it's won all of these "awards" for being so wonderful and groundbreaking. Hmmmm

Only advantage of no split screen would be for deathmatch so your opponent can't see where you are, that wouldn't be a concern for co-op though and should be an option.

I love hanging out with my friends and playing games. None of my friends have a current gen system. I'm sure if they did get an X1 they wouldn't get XBL. That means that even though I own an XB1 and XBL that I currently have no way to play this with friends.

I love split screen and always will. It is so much fun to be playing a game with someone right next to you and joking around a lot. I hope Titanfall 2 has split screen. This decision is making me not want to get the game. This could have been the ultimate split screen game.

Probably has something to do with the game being more fun to play to most people than everything else that was playable at the show.

The reviews will show if the awards were deserved or not.

Noooooooooooooo! I was.asking about splitscreen since the day Titanfall was revealed. And this news feels like a big slap on my face. I am a big splitscreen enthusiast. I love playing with friends in the same room. I was also willing to buy a second XB1 just so my other three friends could play in the same room while drinking booze and having a great time. I was having high hopes about splitscreen in TF cause i thought its made by the same fkin developers who created Cod4!

I just wish Respawn would come out and say:

"We have more than a dozen maps."

I realize it's not finalized. I realize it might change. Bbut throw us a bone, anything. Anything at all.

PC Games are becoming more couch co-op oriented and console games are becoming more online oriented.

What is happening?!

Not really. The latest iterations of COD, Gears, Halo, and Borderlands all have split screen.

Halo 4 split screen is terrible as it causes severe frame drops and they preserve the aspect ratio of each player which causes the screen to have black bars. Gears uses the full screen but doesn't adjust for vertical space so you can't really see anything. CoD has dropped to only 2 player split screen. Can't speak for Borderlands as the only way I've ever played it is online.

I wouldn't want to play Titanfall in split screen after playing in the alpha because of the verticality of the maps. Splitting a screen in half completely ruins your ability to see other pilots who are running around on top of buildings.

I wouldn't say that exactly. Borderlands 2 console has split screen while PC does not. Diablo 3 console has 4 player couch co-op while PC version is single player or multiplayer with constant network connection to a main server and no couch co-op.

But yeah PC is improving on the couch co-op front.

Respawn has been saying that significant details will be forthcoming "soon" for like 2 months, now. It's more than tiring.

SPILL THE BEANS, ALREADY

But... we want it.

We want the option. Whether or not the other games had awful splitscreen is irrelevant since a ton of people still want it -- it should speak volumes that we still do even though it was so terrible for you, no?

Playing online with a friend by your side is fun. Very, very fun. And a 60+ TV takes care of most of the concerns.

It's not a deal breaker for me, my pre-order is safe and secure, but I won't sit around and pretend that I'm not bummed that a feature I love is not in the game, especially when the devs involved implemented it before.

8 maps. Absolute max of 10, for the double digits.

That's the the guesstimation I'd make, judging by the trailers and their "Each map is really 2 maps in one. One for the Titan's, one for the Pilots' spiel. I expect 8.

Those are old games from 2012 yo, I'm watching about stuff that released recently or will release soon. Samurai Gun and Nidhogg.

Most of the people complaining probably don't own an XBOX one and never plan to get one to begin with.
I mostly used the 360 for all the fantastic local multiplayer games it had on XBLA, so you can probably imagine why I'm not too thrilled with the One right now.
