No Wii U version planned for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

I really don't understand why Capcom chooses to forgo localizing more Monster Hunter titles and releasing them on more platforms. Releasing MHFU on iOS is absolutely nonsensical, because the number of people with those devices that have appropriate controls to play it is probably going to be very tiny. I think those choices combined with poor marketing of that IP are large parts of why it doesn't have more market penetration outside of Japan.

I dunno

That was my knee jerk reaction too. But I actually dont mind Mobile expansion like what was done with the IOS version of 2nd G

Makes it easier to play with friends and as long as comprehensive control options are available from the start I could see myself adjusting.

Bummed that they didn't make it for Android and Vita as well... seems like it would have been easy and cheap

So you're saying gameplay matters more than graphics, so don't make a version that would have both? It makes no sense. Are you implying that the WiiU version would have worse gameplay despite having better controls and visuals?

No, I... Admittedly was not thinking about that. Sorry for being misleading, a Wii U version would have been entirely welcome. It's just that i'm fine without it, really.
Probably because due to a disaster involving a baby and some milk, the controller is currently broken and I won't be able to get enough money for a new one for a long time.

And yeah, the Wii U had better controls and visuals, but the 3DS version had a great framerate, reasonable-to-good graphics, and the controls were fine for me, seeing as i've been playing the games for years on handhelds.

Yeah, I know how it works, but it's frustrating. Having to pull out the stylus and tap the screen and put it back before the monster attacks you sucks, and constantly holding your hands on both L and R is uncomfortable, I prefer to keep them under the 2ds/3ds and use them when necessary. It fucking sucks. I don't dun into this problem with any other hunting game because they all wised up and either got decent control schemes or came out on platforms where you have a built in second analog stick.

Yeah, I'm not really trying to defend it or anything. Just saying you can work with it. Then again I might just not have the best basis for comparison since the first and only Monster Hunter game I played (aside from a demo of the first game on a demo cd included with my ps2 purchase :P) is 3 Ultimate on 3DS.
Let's just hope NIntendo feels like having two analogue sticks on their next handheld.

... So? Don't get me wrong, the Wii U version was superior, and not just because of the online. But the 3DS version is way more traditional, fun, and every bit as good, now that it has multiplayer. Sorry, but in the case of Monster Hunter, gameplay matters more than graphics.

These two statements do not make any sense together.

The only thing that bugs me is the contraction and limited focus of the main series

We go from 4 platforms with Mainline games down to one.

Everything else gets the MMO, China gets the crytek experiment, and IOS gets an old port

When is this series going to break out of its shell? It seems like they decided it was better to be just like Gamefreak with Pokemon

Out of 5 mainline series (MH/G/2/3/4) 4 is the only one that wasn't MMO, if you meant monthly subscription model.
It was only western versions that main line MH didn't require subscription fee, i.e. MH was developed around the monthly subscription model from the get-go.

I also think that there's going to be a lot of people who impulse buy and try playing the game with just the touchscreen--which will likely lead them to never want to touch Monster Hunter in any shape or form in the future. Sure, it may lead them to buy a gamepad device for their phone, but those are pricey and I think the former situation is more likely.

You know what I meant

cmon man

They would if you bold the entire sentence. I think he's saying the 3DS version is good to go now that it has online like the Wii-U version had which use to make it the superior version.

Yup, this. Although my wording was a bit wonky and my logic was a bit weird anyway. Again, sorry~

That's sad to hear. I knew it was a crapshoot but MH3U on the Wii U was my first MH and I loved it. So while it's very much a handheld series to many, it's a console games in my eyes now. I have a 3DS but it's an OG, and playing a game like MH on there isn't very appealing.

That sucks. I'm still gonna get it, but I know it's not gonna get the same mileage it would have if it were on my Wii U. I just can't hang with playing 3DS for too long as it's not a comfortable thing to hold.

I wonder if building the online infrastructure for MH4U will allow them to update MH3U 3DS with online play. I don't see it happening, but there's some wishful thinking for you.

Fucking Capcom, man. I can't believe that this might be the first MH generation without a console version. Even with the PS2 level assets, there are people wanting to play the game on the big screen. Just leaving money on the table.

Many people forgetting that,

a) MH3U WiiU version was a port.

b) There won't be a G version since Ultimate is the new G. In Japan, MH3U was called MH3G

c) It may look shitty in videos but from experience, MH3U looks fine on 3DS and I am sure MH4U will to

d)The lock-on is sufficient. I ordered CPP but never use it for 3DS version and I stopped using the Right analogue stick in WiiU too.

I am not surprised since it was already known. Would have bought both versions but oh well.

No WiiU version no purchase. Frankly, no console monster hunter, no further interest in the franchise. There are so many games in this day and age I can find another way to spend my money.

Man :/ I don't have a 3DS anymore and I was really expecting a Wii U version of the game in the future. Guess I will have to stick with 3U when I buy my Wii U.

Yeah, already decided not to buy if no Wii U Version. Though I love my 3DS, I just cant do long term battles looking down at a small screen. Neck Cramps imminent.

A Wii U port of MH4U would make the console's library feel rather complete despite all. I think I'm getting over it already and will look forward to the 3DS version of the game.

MH3U is on a console and last gen didn't have any either beyond an awful P3rd port.

Expected, but still shitty. I really love the series but I can't see myself playing it on 3DS more than a handful of times, so I probably won't get it at launch.

Perhaps if they didn't make the CPP such a hassle to buy...

No real surprise. Capcom likely saw more incentive to make one for MH3U, given that it was a launch title. At this point, they have no more faith in Wii U than most other third-party companies.

Meh, I don't think I want to go back to playing Monster Hunter on a handheld after having played it on the Wii U.
Yep.

But it's either poor controls and tiny screen MH or no MH. I'm gonna go with the option that let's me play MH, regardless of how much I hate supporting this bullshit behavior from Capcom.

In what world does MH4U on Wii U make sense? The one where it sells enough units to justify it? That is not this world.

Well, actually MH3 Ultimate Wii U is estimated* around 500k WW.
Not so bad, considering that it was released on March13
Japanese sales should be around 200k +, so could have sold 300K in the West. The most succesful MH game in the West (single SKU) is Tri on Wii, with more or less 700k, the second should be PSP/3DS with around 500k
Considering how this Wii U game would probably exploit tons of assets from 3DS/Wiiu previous episode, I'm not sure that it would be a waste of time and money (considering that the WIi U install base is higher now, and will be even higher in early 15 when the game will be released in the West

*I remember Capcom sadi this, plus some MC/NPD thread projection

What about a PS4/XB1 chapter for the game? I think it would make sense, even thought I'm absolutely NOT a fan of this saga.
More resources than Capcom would be willing to spend (back when the original Tri was in development as a PS3 title, they cancelled that then moved it to the Wii for this very reason), and the Japanese, their core market for the franchise, don't care about consoles all that much at this point while portable MH always sells better anyway.

They would be more likely to change their minds about a Wii U MH4U than bother making an MH just for PS4/XB1.

I'm slightly disappointed however online on my 3DS XL should suffice, though I will have to buy one of those circle pad pro's.

Not having to buy 2 versions of the game is nice also.

Better be a January release!

This is incredibly lame. 3ds is terrible, tiny low resolution screen and no second analog stick. Extra lame because 3 ultimate was ported over, don't seea reason why 4 Ultimate can't be ported over as well.

I most likely won't get MH4U if that's the case. I actually purchased MH3 on both Wii U and 3DS but I had a really hard time playing it on 3DS while experiencing it with better controls on the Wii U. I ended up putting like 3 hours into the 3DS version. I wonder if MH4U will be the last MH game released outside of the Japan if this fails.

No problems on my end! I much prefer playing Monster Hunter on portable (and I don't need a CPP to be good at it, either) format. And I think also, the reason the WiiU version of MH3U existed was mainly for online play - even then though the 3DS version vastly outsold it everywhere, so I just don't know if at the moment the extra cost of porting is worth it. Maybe down the line, though, but as it stands, I am more than okay.
