No Wii U version planned for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

I most likely won't get MH4U if that's the case. I actually purchased MH3 on both Wii U and 3DS but I had a really hard time playing it on 3DS while experiencing it with better controls on the Wii U. I ended up putting like 3 hours into the 3DS version. I wonder if MH4U will be the last MH game released outside of the Japan if this fails.
Pretty sure the 3DS version sold just fine. Better than the Wii U one, in fact. I wouldn't be too concerned about it failing.
They sold over 500k on the Wii U. Tri on the Wii sold less than a million IIRC.
Tri sold over a million in Japan alone.

Knowing Capcom they probably want you to buy this version for 3DS and then buy the next definitive one on the WIIU, for this reason they said that :P

Or maybe they plan to slowly shift MH to IOS :P

I don;t mind. I started with Freedom, so the series has been a portable one in my eyes.

That's a code for : "Gosh, why we so dumb.. let not do this shit again"

For how small of an install base the Wii U has, those numbers aren't too shabby, especially when compared to the sales of Tri. Capcom most likely didn't feel the need to make one as MH4U already has online play.

More resources than Capcom would be willing to spend (back when the original Tri was in development as a PS3 title, they cancelled that then moved it to the Wii for this very reason), and the Japanese, their core market for the franchise, don't care about consoles all that much at this point while portable MH always sells better anyway.

They would be more likely to change their minds about a Wii U MH4U than bother making an MH just for PS4/XB1.

"Bother"?

I think the game could sell well on PS4/XB1, it is not a question of "bothering".

(also, not accepting reasons like "Yes, but when it has been published on PS2 back then...")

It so bizarre that they continue to shift this game around instead of put it on everything.

They are clearly extremely conservative and yet I can't help but think the series would sell gangbusters on both Platforms

I literally have no idea how they go about justifying some of their decisions

MH3U is on a console and last gen didn't have any either beyond an awful P3rd port.
Generation as in Monster Hunter generation.

Though I'm the first to admit that I only experienced the second generation on a PSP (with Freedom Unite), I don't want to go back to handhelds after Tri and Tri Ultimate.

Monster Hunter is now an epic big-screen experience for me. I want Capcom to provide me with that option, god knows the franchise is big enough these days to make that worthwhile for them. Until then, my money's going elsewhere. Can't support this.

It will be announced after the NA version is released on 3DS. MH3U was a huge hit on Wii U during a time that the user base was very small. It's just smart business not to announce this now.

PS2 assets - check
Put it on the only platform without dual analog sticks - check

I had to import MH3P for my PSP, Capcom doesn't give a shit anymore...

Yeah its crazy

The Franchise keeps growing and they keep changing the Scope of it

This time they have significantly SHRUNK it (At least for the main series)

Not only that but they Used the profits to subsidize MOBILE development... for what? To shift old ports to IOS?

That said. If IOS/Android get Portable 3rd 4th and so on I could be on board.

I'm ordering Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Wii U in advance thanks to this topic. It'll be one of my first Wii U games, I hope Capcom takes it back and release 4U for Wii U.

I'm a bit disappointed because I really got use to playing MH on the big screen and I struggled wen I played it on my 3DS and going back to the PSP games.

Oh well, it's Monster Hunter, it'll be a blast either way and suck away my social life!

That's odd. The crappy up-port of 3 had to have sold enough to more than cover costs. It couldn't have been expensive at all. And this time the user base is a lot bigger, and they already have online functionality built into the base game. Foregoing another cheap up-port seems like money left on the table.

This is also a possibility. 2015 launch perhaps if that's the case?

MH4U (3DS) is still in development, it will launch in Japan later this year, the team can't work on two games at the same time.

This is what bugs me

They should have multiple teams making tons of games by now

Instead they have one small main team, using the same old engine.

They have a port team doing IOS and whatever else

Next is the MMO teams. Frontier guys and then the Experiment going on in China with MHO

So weird

Good, spend the thousands of man hours it will take to bring the fucking special edition 3DS XL with MH4 over to the US, please. That's why it hasn't happened yet, right? It's too hard to do? Fucking Capcom.

If the damn system was Region Free I would have bought this already

My hope is that Nintendo sealed a deal to start Gen 5 on the WiiU like the started Gen3 on the Wii, sure there is no Install Base but better on the WiiU than on PS4 for the same reasons than gen3 was Wii and no PS3, Nintendo should give them whatever they ask in exchange for keep it in Nintendo consoles

Get out of here

For the benefit of us all I hope MH5 is PS4/WiiU/PSvita/3DS/PC/XB1 etc...

I want to see the scale increase and improve

Not dwindle. As good as MH4 is its also a shame to see the game continue to be so ugly and trapped in the PS2 days

Im gonna buy it and love it but I really want the future of the series to be much brighter and expanded than this

I've only ever played MonHun on a big screen (even bought a PS3 to play MHP3rd HD and a Wii U for MH3U - the hours put into a single MonHun game justify a console for me, really) so this is pretty disappointing, but I'm not taking it as the final word just yet...

Fuck you Capcom, I hate you and I hate your stupid game. :'(

3DS is great if you have real life friends to play with, but I live in Europe... this game is 100 times better if you can play it with a proper gamepad. I'm having a lot of fun with 3U, there is a healthy playerbase, we got a fucking console bundle of it! Why Crapcom can't listen to their fans. Rot in hell.

Capcom USA has a say in nothing.
Remember when Sven said that the Wii versions of Resident Evil weren't coming and Capcom JP went right over US and had them release it.

Getting offended by my choice of words doesn't change the fact that it's extremely unlikely that the sales potential of a PS4/XB1 MH would justify making all-new assets just for those systems. They would be relying primarily on the West for it, where the franchise's appeal is niche at best, and when even the sales of the original Tri on Wii were only a fraction of the portable games in spite of having the largest install base of any given console in Japan during the seventh gen, there's no reason to believe systems like PS4 or XB1 would do better for them either. Based on how they operate with this series, they would not invest more than they feel they need to.
This. It makes 0 sense why they wouldn't port it. They will let the 3DS sell as much as possible then announce 4G.
4U is 4G.

da fuq ಠ_ಠ

Your first statement makes no sense since 4U now has online; no need for real life friends on 3DS anymore. You then go on to say that 3U has a healthy playerbase; I bet a 3DS version would have an even healthier playerbase.

Well, in the US, the 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate sold 240k through March, while the Wii U game sold 97k in the same frame.
Seeing as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be the only version and it'll have online, it should do much better.

The initial ratio was also 60:40 in favor of 3DS, so as time passed, more people continued to favor the 3DS game over the Wii U game.

This is how capcom will continue to keep the series down in the west. Handhelds aren't as popular here. It should be released on every system that can run it, which means them all, and really give Monster Hunter as a franchise the chance to reach a bigger audience.

i'm actually happy for it not having a wiiU version

I hate when 2 games have the portable and the big version. It feels as if you'd have to choose between two hookers only to get the same result

How well did MH3U 3DS sell outside of Japan? Was there a valid reason why they couldn't put online play in the 3DS version of that game or were they purposefully gimping it to get people to buy the Wii U version?

the 3ds has smooth as butter fps, while the wiiU is badly optimized and locked at 30 and below.

Yeah, below.

Don't know why, they probably screwed up something or the used commands like

delay (ms)

I was surprised in mh3 for 3ds you could use a touchscreen panel for camera controls. Worked very well while my circle pad pro was being delivered. If I had a 2ds, I could get used to it no problem.

What? They both have distinct advantages. WiiU provides better controls/big screen/better graphics and performance, 3DS provides portability and the ability to take your game anywhere with you. Save file transferring means everyone wins, even on both platforms at the same time.

You couldn't be more egoist even if you tried. And what an unfortunate comparison.
