You can't be serious.
I don't understand why these devices are being released with RT.
It's a muted OS.
Put proper Windows on it and it becomes a real alternative for mobile devices.
RT cannot compete with iOS and Android
The reason people say RT is a muted OS is because in comparison to W8, it is. But in comparison to W8, Android is also muted and iOS is basically starting a fire with a stick.
So on what ground can RT not copete with Android and iOS?
I want to buy a new Tablet pretty much just for browsing the net at home, and want to get the Ipad Air as my first Ipad...
But this shit is ridiculously sexy...
That's what makes it muted. There is a perfectly fine OS in W8 that should be on all devices that have RT
Apps.
RT is built for Apps and to compete with iOS and Android they are failing.
The only solution is to get rid of RT and give a full OS on all their devices

Is android that much better? For tablet specific/optimised apps I mean? I think Ipad is significantly ahead of both.
Saying there is a perfectly good OS in W8 just seems odd though. Do people complain that they can't run OSX apps on ipad?
.
Muted OS=/=Lacking Appstore. As am OS, RT is more capable than iOS and Android. If RT didn't exist, devs would create x86 version of apps and Arm versions, making it more of a hassle to support Windows 8's app store. Sure, windows 8 has a lot of legacy apps, but those apps run in desktop environment, which is touch unfriendly.
RT is the better choice for Microsoft in terms of App store support. How would a full OS help the casual consumer buy a Windows tablet? If anything, it'll steer them away.
To be honest I can't answer your question as I've never owned a tablet. (to be fair I do have an Android tablet given to my daughter. Bought from Hong Kong markets and is as appealing and useful as goat veal for a vegetarian)
I have owned and used Apple and Android devices as phones though.
As a phone I hated my Apple. Terrible piece of equipment.
I had a HTC Sensation (maybe an Incredible) that was rubbish as well.
Currently I sport a Samsung Note and an S3. They are the best smart phones I've ever had.
Perhaps this is the root of my argument. I don't want a tablet in the sense of not having a full desktop experience.
Tablets have never been on my radar because they didn't seem useful to me; just another piece of specialised equipment that I didn't have a need for.
With W8 on a tablet I finally have something that'll do everything I want

no intel? will buy for 99e

video editor from Nokia actually has more features than what I expected. I can imagine myself editing videos on a plane from a vacation. Not bad for a $499 device.
There is the dell venue pro if you really want an intel tablet, I don't know if it has LTE though
Damn that is one sexy tablet, shame the thread had to be ruined by the RT hate.
RT tablets are here to compete with android tablets and ipads not full windows devices.
People complaining about apps need to realize the store has only been around for 1.5 years and already has more than 100.000 apps. The app store will only grow, especially knowing that microsoft is integrating metro in almost everything these days.
they're ARM, same as WP. They'll run Microsoft's mobile OS. RT and WP have no problem combining into one OS, technically. App devs need to step up and update their apps for both phone and tablet though. The problem with RT is the lack of vision. We got WP and we got W8, RT is in between. But WP is growing faster, getting support for bigger screens. Eventually WP will turn RT irrelevant or at least MS will merge WP and RT. But then what about those old RT devices?
as far as lack of vision. what happens to apple when mac users demand iOS on their PC's? will apple bridge the 2 OS's into one? if so, they'll experience the same growing pains MS is going through now. if apple does make it happen though, MS will have had a lead in streamlining their OS.The problem with RT is the lack of vision. RT/WP is vital for Microsoft, it isn't going away. If MS loses the mobile market then they'll cease to exist.
Too smallIf mostly browsing, why not something cheaper like a nexus?

Any word on which one is better? Surface RT or the Nokia 2520?
RT is the one that is going to be staying..
RT will continue running Windows Store apps... like Windows. Unless you see Microsoft moving away from Metro Windows apps (not happening)... RT is future proof.
2520 has better camera, LTE standard and NFC. SoCs are comparable though the Nokia's S800 edges out the Tegra 4. 2520 is a tad smaller and weighs less. It's $50 more though.
Do you realize that WP is older, also runs on ARM, also runs a WP App Store and now are getting support for bigger devices. Probably it now shares a god chunk of software with RT, then why to have a separate build?
The root of your arguement is that your personal prefrence in a tablet, it should run a desktop os. Neither Android or iOS offer this, in fact RT is closest you'll get to it on ARM. Yes your first post is "RT cannot compete with iOS and Android".
According to you, RT cannot compete with iOS and Android, because you want a desktop OS on a tablet that neither Android or iOS provide. I hope you realise how rediculous this sounds.
You *can't* put proper Windows on an ARM.
ARM CPUs can't run Intel code. It is utterly impossible because ARM CPUs are a lot slower than Intel CPUs. That's why ARM CPUs consume less battery power, and that's why they're popular for phones and tablets.
It sounds like what you really want is for Windows tablets to have Intel CPUs.
That is a very different request. There are plenty of Windows tablets that are using Intel CPUs that you can buy now, or in the near future. Some with really fast Intel Core CPUs (like the Surface Pro 2), and some with slower and cheaper Intel Baytrail CPUs.
You make good points and I concede that I don't want a tablet that runs RT, Android or iOS.
Your argument still doesn't tell me what RT isn't selling as much as the others though.
I know of 1 person that has an RT device. He regrets it
Yep. Waiting for some reviews of the Dell Venue
Now that we have Bay Trail, there's no advantage in releasing an RT tablet. Porting Windows to ARM has served its purpose in getting Intel's mobile strategy into gear, now let RT die a quick death.
- It's not cheap enough to compete with Android, and it's not well established enough to compete against iOS/ iPads.
Looks nice and undercuts the Surface 2 in price too.
Technically it does because of LTE, but for someone like me who already tethers multiple devices to my phone, the LTE addition is kinda pointless :-/ I wish I could get it for cheaper without LTE support.
How does it having LTE make it cheaper than a Surface 2?
