All thanks to Magicpork again.

here it goes.. btw please we don't need some cinematic experience to appreciate these numbers, it''d be wise for them to remain where they are.

3DS: 0.19

YoY:
Switch: +18%

Software sales, which includes things like in-game purchases and subscriptions, made up $35.8 billion of that 2018 total. Hardware and peripherals earned $7.5 billion.

Can anyone please provide some context and analysis for the sale numbers. My prediction was totally wrong. Switch sold more than Xbox and PS4 combined? WTF?

What context exactly?

- Switch had the best month sales for this generation... beat PS4 peak 1.7m from 2015.
- PS4 had no deal in December being sold at full price.
- XB1 had $199 deal the full month.

It is a bit hard to give context... do you mean software launch? Only Switch had strong releases.

So, Switch got US and Japan in 2018, but PS4 sold better worldwide.

Sony really didn't went for the numbers in december.

Switch sold better than PS4 in the US, Japan, and France. We still don't know about Germany sales number whether PS4>Switch or not. In the UK switch is under PS4.

Total number for 2018 still unknown

Seems like you’ve provided the context. I just never expected for PS4 to be last in sales and the Switch sales being so high.

PS4 is officially distributed in more countries and regions than switch. That's my main reason to believe it sold better than switch since nintendo sales are not really a big gap in the countries you mentioned.

Worldwide sales were the main reason Xbox 360 never really did better than PS3 in a single year. Even US and UK were far stronger for MS, for example.

Just my opinion, of course.

Yeah, it should be closed in 2018 for the shipment number at the end.

Not bad PS4 numbers but expected since there weren't any deals. Guess they gotta get as much money as possible before PS5!

Damn, I was really hoping for 2 million for Switch. This is still a good result though.
Wasn't expecting PS4 to be last.

The regularity of PS4 sales over the years is amazing. Especially for an aging system.

And even more amazing the darn thing is still $299!! Like WTF?! Get this thing to at least $249 with a game jeez.

Hey they're not in it to break sales records anymore, they lead by a large margin in installbase...They're only focused on reaping in those profits to give gamers a nice piece of kit come PS5 and to invest in more games and new IP's......I'd say that's a surefire plan for success....

It's not over till the fat Snorlax sings.

(And keep in mind we're only looking at North America here -- Nintendo is aiming for 20 mil worldwide.)
Let me guess Europe over performed to cover Japan and US?

It is pretty simple they need 14.96m units shipped in Q3 + Q4.

US is the strongest Switch territory and Q3 is right now:

~3.4m plus Japan 1.7m... 5.1m... let's say 6 million shipped... do you believe Europe had more 5m shipped to reach 11m for Q3? Plus Q4 will be 4m shipped WW?

So same as last year, NSW>Xbox>PS4.

Seems Xbox One also up the whole year, we'll see how this year fare, both PS4 and Xbox One need to get their last pushed for the old hardware in now before they announce the successors later this year ad hurt momentum.

Issue is Microsofts going to be the only one with a Gamescom presence and a conference at E3. Not sure what Sony is planning.

You are wrong, its 920k.
I was under the impression that was the decrease number of the YoY and not the numbers for December.

If so then n/m .9 mil is impressive. Though the switch is still nearly both Xbox and ps4 sales combined which is that much more impressive.

Smash sells, go figure.
