Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Man, I have an ancient CPU so I have to upgrade that before upgrading my 760. There isn't enough money in the world.

LMAO, it's already faster than the Titan X, a video card that was $1000, for only $380 but that's still not good enough for you. I think you should probably quit PC gaming and just buy consoles.

Why are you comparing it to the titan x and not the much much cheaper 980ti
Are you nvidia marketing? because you talk like you are.

it's also a smaller chip than the gtx 970 so it should and will be cheaper in a while

And what is this garbage even?

Shame on you

Looks like it'll either be an MSI or EVGA third party solution for me based on their excellent support. MSI already has a lot of options laid out but I haven't seen much EVGA news just yet so I haven't really decided on which one to go for.

If MSI it'll probably be the Armor card, I was thinking of the Sea Hawk as well but I don't think I want to bother with water cooling.

Msi is seriously overpriced and armor typically isn't anything special. I'd wait for some review of evga cards how their new cooler works.

Where did you bit it from. was it online store?

Local store in Dubai. We have a mall called Computer Plaza with about 20 odd shops (most of them owned by 3 main retailers :p) which sell computer hardware here. A lot of times we get stuff a few days or even a week earlier than standard retail date for hardware.

I got lucky with the GTX 1070. Only this shop had stock and that too a handful of units. Most of the guys are awaiting delivery, they all use various suppliers, so they will get the stock tomorrow or after the weekend.

Long time since upgrading, is my pc good enough for the 1070 or is there no point until I get better rig?

Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 686MHz
ASUS P8Z68-V GEN3

Upgrading from a 560ti

You're fine, but you should overclock your CPU to 4ghz+.

So if i wanting a constant 60fps+ at 1440p i should really go for the 1080, as the 1070 doesn't seem to always achieve over 60fps on modern games?

Does anyone with a Alienware X51 know if this badboy will fit inside the case? I know the power draw isn't enough to cause issues but I want to know if it will physically fit in the case itself?

Stock 1070 minimum framerates can be below 60fps but an overclocked one should be fine. Bear in mind most benchmarks are at ultra settings, which will include some effects which are high cost but limited return so that'd give you more frames back. Should be fine really for pretty much every game at 1440p

I'm running 3440x1440 so I'm guessing framerates would be about 25-30% lower than 1440p results, which is why I'm thinking to go with a 1080 - although it is too expensive

Hi guys, I have a I5 4590 will this be OK with this card or should I get a 970 when a bit cheaper instead? I have a cooler master elite 130 case. Currently got a GTX 960 2g card.

Thanks a lot.

4590 will be fine. What monitor do you have?

Personally I wouldn't get a 970 unless the used prices fall through the floor, and even at rock bottom prices the AMD 480 may be a better option as that should outperform the 970 for $199

Hi, thanks for the reply. I play on my Sony Bravia kdl something 48" TV.

Also I'm in the UK so that card you mention could be around £150ish? That sounds pretty sweet!

Edit... Thinking about it I do like nividas features such as shadow play... Also their cards seem to run some games better? Any help would be great.

Anyone have guesses as to when we'll start seeing these at MSRP?

My GTX 970 isn't quite good enough for my Vive. <_<
I'm wondering the same thing. I want one of these cards, but I'm not willing to spend the $440 or whatever for the founders edition. Gimmie one of those $380 cards EVGA cards please.

There likely won't be a $380 card if EVGA's 1080s are anything to go by, as they sell EVGA-branded non-Founder's Edition blower cooled 1080s for $610, and then at $620 they sell their ACX 3.0 cooler 1080s.

So I would personally expect the EVGA ACX 3.0 1070s to go for about $400. Given their track record with the excellent previous ACX cooler designs, the extra $20 should be more than worth it.

I was just watching the Digital Foundry review of this... the 1070 FE's cooling solution lacks the vapor chamber? That's kinda crazy, $70 premium on this card and Nvidia still cut corners on it.

Wait for RX480 release on 29th and then decide between its 8GB version (~$230) and 1070 custom (~$400). Both cards should be a nice upgrade from your 960 2GB even for 1080p. Avoid 970 as it's an old outgoing card with a smaller VRAM amount which will become an issue soon.

1080p TV will be fine with the 480. The 1070 is a great card but likely twice the price. I'm going for a 1070/1080 because I need more performance for my 1440p UW monitor but also I want the extra stuff they're bringing for VR to improve performance and quality.

Eagerly awaiting the 1070's to pop up on Amazon, Ebuyer etc. Just hope its not only the FE, otherwise I'm back to waiting!

Overclockers UK just put a 1070 up for a brief moment and has since been taken down, people don't sound happy about the price. I'm guessing around £399

EDIT: £410 for a FE 1070, what a joke.

Lol, that's pretty much what a 980 cost isn't it?

The new EVGA WTF model

That's stupid.

fake edit: was just checking apple as a comparison, using the iPhone SE which would fairly recently have set prices based on exchange rates.

In the US the 16GB SE is $399 so $20 more than the 1070 MSRP. The 64GB is $449, so $50 more than the 1070 FE

In the German&French store, the 16GB is €489, the 64GB is €589.
In the UK store, the 16GB is £359, the 64GB is £439

If those exchange rates + VAT hold up, it would suggest a price range of approximately €489/499 for base level 1070s, and €549 for FE. So that EVGA is possibly a bargain!? In the UK it'd be around £359 for basic cards and £399 for FE

I mean, we already knew the FE would cost 500€ in Europe (Germany here), didn't we? I remember reading a roundtable discussion on PCGames Hardware about it.

edit: from last week "Geforce GTX 1070: Are 500€ too much?" The opinion of PCGH-editors on a current topic"

The real questions is, how much cheaper are the custom cards going to be. I'm expecting a 40€-50€ drop compared to the FE (it's a $70 difference in the US). With GTX970 prices holding at ~280€- ~320€, they'll definitely be going well above 400€ with the 1070.

Page has been taken down but 1070 prices quoted on the OCUK forum this morning....

Pretty much all the FE cards were £410

Cheapest blower edition was £369 for KFA2, MSI same type was £380

All the 3rd party coolers started from £410 for cheapest and most were £430-£450 with Asus strix at £480 and a hybrid MSI seahawk at £550

FUCK OFF!!!!!

500€ for the FE was pretty much a given judging by 1080 conversion rates right? Not sure why freak out about it now.

So basically 450€-500€ for 3rd party cards. Well, we had it coming I guess.

It's still a complete bullshit price for a mid-tier card. Though if this article is correct:

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...1070-founders-edition-ab-heute-im-handel.html

and the non-FE cards will be 419€ and up, that'd be more manageable, at least. Not ideal, since that's still 100€ more than what the 970 launch price was, and arguably the 970 was a better card than the 1070, when compared to their respective x80's.

I was on the edge due to the smaller paycheck I got last month, but with these prices, there's really no question and I'll just wait for now. I don't really follow the GPU scene or anything, could the prices go down even a bit before 2017?

It all depends on AMD, really. Otherwise there's zero reason for Nvidia to lower their prices. The NDA on AMD's new cards is in effect until June 29th, we'll know better after the independent benchmarks for those come out.

They will go down a bit in month after the Founders Editions are replaced. I'm definitely waiting too.
What a horrible business practice, but I guess the thirst is real so people are okay with paying more to get it first.

Oh, it's definitely a bullshit price, I just assumed we all already had that scoff/freakout last week, when the FE price was announced. :p

And 419€ would indeed be more manageable. Pretty close to my absolute threshold and more than I would've paid for any card before... but at least I'm seriously considering a purchase. At 499€, no way.

Prices will go down if there is less demand. So basically no.

Yeah, makes sense. Thanks for the replies. My 970 is plenty strong for now though, I can easily wait till next summer for some possible price drops.

Those cards won't compete with a 1070 performance wise, don't set yourself up for a disappointment.

Oh I know, AMD themselves have said as much. But it all depends on just how big of a gap there is between their offerings and the 1070. If it's close enough, and the cards are significantly cheaper than the 1070, a lot of people will go with AMD and thus pressure Nvidia to lower their prices.

AMD needs to start dropping some solid info on the 490 and quickly.

No Vega till later, but if we're going by AdoredTV's guesses, we could be seeing something in that performance bracket at E3.

I'm excited as all getout and am definitely in the market for an upgrade from my 290. It's gonna be either the 480, 480X/490 or 1070 depending on overall standing later this month.

I, for one, am going to be watching the PC Gaming Show with bated breath.
