Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Wow, what cooler are you using? I'm pushing 85 degrees at 4.3 GHz on a 3570k. Granted, it's a 212 EVO which is pretty much the most plain jane cooler you can get...

212 EVO is what I'm using. I'm using a fantastic case, though. This thing is numero uno for airflow

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-air-540-high-airflow-atx-cube-case

I also removed the Cooler Master 120 fan from the 212 EVO and put on a DEEPCOOL UL 120 PWM fan instead. Cools a lot better, IMO

Yeah, I love that case design but I haven't been able to convince my wife to let me have something that big in the office lol

I'm using a simple Carbide 200R and stock fans. So there's definitely some work I could do. Really considering going with an AIO liquid cooler as my next upgrade so I can push the overclock a little further and stick with this CPU for a few more years

Just got home. I'm at 60 degrees idle. Ugh.

I swear the pasting went fine.

its possible you may have some mallware or a virus on your pc.

i had my gpu temps around 65 a while ago, and my cpu was also fluctuating between 20-30% in iddle

i cleaned out everything , reapplied thermal paste. no solution, until i ran some mallware cleaners and found the root of all evil.
now i'm back at normal (I5 3580 and AMD 7870TX gpu)

Randomly went into best buy today and they had 2 1080 FEs and 1 1070 FE, both oringal nvidia packaging. Walked out with a 1070!

This has stayed up longer than many of the more expensive cards. Some of those are gone seconds after I get the nowinstock notification

I'm going to have to put this FE through its paces and decide if I want to spring for a different card. Seems like things are loosening up just a bit. And the RX480 coming out will probably deflect people away from 1070s as well.

(o_o)

Purchased a G1 already but damn Gigabyte is going hard on the prices here.

2nd highest clocked 1070 for $429, and now the cheapest of the batch bar none, still at a decent OC.

They've cheapened their coolers (possibly because of lowered TDP), the G1 1070 only has 2 copper pipes whereas the G1 970 has 3.

I only hope performance will be good enough that it doesn't matter.

Fucking shit it is a bitch to get a 10.5 in caRd into a hadron. I've done a near 11 in 290x and other 10.5 inch cards in it, but for some reason I always forget what a pain in the ass it is.

Have to unplug my board power and cpu power, which fucking sucks. There's no room to work lol.

It's partially due to G1 dropping a tier. My G1 sits at 66C max even with +100mV anyway, so a third pipe would have been overkill.

Anyone else have problems with installing the driver? It says cant be installed with my version of Windows, maybe its because I have windows enterprise.

Nah, I've had these temps since I built a fresh machine with a new HDD in 2012.
It's either the chip, or maybe more likely the heatsink isn't mounted well. I'm pretty sure I pasted it okay, but I think one of the four plastic push-pin things on the stock cooler may have stripped a bit or something.

Get a better cooler. You'd be surprised how far that will go

Thinking of pulling the trigger on an MSI Armor OC, since it's in stock. I really want an EVGA SC or a Gigabyte G1. Should I wait? Or are the differences negligible?

Honestly negligible. They can easily be overclocked to within a few MHz of each other. The differences tend to get overstated in reviews / in-depth discussion but the reality is that if you blind tested them in 3 closed cases, there's not a chance anyone would be able to tell the differences.

well that seals it, I'm gonna wait at least 2 months for the AIBs to lower their prices closer to $379... we're close, boys.

I'd just jump on this one tbh. It's way better than the blowers you're likely to see at MSRP and I don't see much point in waiting 2 months to save $20... But that's just me. Though, this card is pretty ugly so I can see that being a deterrent.

I ordered the MSI Armor OC just now, but I'm gonna keep an eye on nowinstock for the G1 or EVGA SC to come in stock, just in case! But yeah, spec-wise these all look very close.

Looks like things are getting closer to MSRP so I'll be biting the bullet soon. The 400$ card is tempting but I've never bought from gigabyte before. I'm using a 6900 series AMD card on my home machine still so the pull is strong.

I bought the Zotac AMP, does boost clock enable automatically or do I have to turn on a setting. My first NVIDIA card in probably a decade lol.

oh shit. im so close to pulling the trigger

$399 that's what $20 over what the cheapest will be? (based on announce prices) it isn't getting much cheaper than $379 USD right?

ive had a gigabyte 7950 for the last 3 years now and i definitely trust the brand

edit: $600 CAD ;__;

I ordered that Gigabyte 1070 when it was posted a few hours ago, and the fact that it's still up makes me somewhat suspicious. Then again, my card was already charged, and order status is labeled as "packaging," so who knows?

That's great to hear! I've been trying to find G1 1070 reviews online but there haven't been any. Happy to get this over the Asus Strix considering that's another 20 dollars.

Looking forward to getting mine.

1070 maxing out at about 19000 firestrike. My 980 ti g1 does 21-22000. I imagine pretty much the same performance in games.

grabbed the $400 gigabyte one. For why it's still up, doesn't appear to list under newegg when searching for gtx 1070. Only way I could get to it was through the link.
