Saw this on reddit about the repeal of Dodd-frank that happened today:

http://www.vox.com/2017/2/14/14617312/trump-transparency-oil

This is what Trump and Putin are up to: Exxon Mobil, under Rex Tillerson, brokered a deal with Russia in 2013 to lease over 60 million acres of Russian land to pump oil out of (which is five times as much land as they lease in this country), but all that Russian oil would go through pipelines in the Ukraine, who heavily tax the proceeds, and Ukraine was applying for admission into NATO at the time. Putin subsequently invaded Ukraine in 2014, secured the routes to export the oil tax-free by sea, and took control of the port where their Black Sea Naval Fleet is based, by taking the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine by force. This was Hitler style imperialism that broke every international law in the free world. After Obama sanctioned Russia for the invasion, Exxon Mobil could only pump oil from approximately 3 of those 60+ million acres. But now Rex Tillerson is soon to be our Secretary of State, and as of today, there's information circulating that Donald Trump will likely unilaterally remove all sanctions against Russia in the coming days or weeks. The Russian government's oil company, Rosneft, will make half a trillion (500 Billion) dollars from that much untapped oil, all pumped tax-free through Crimea, stolen from Ukraine, now owned by Russia. Putin may have subverted our government just for this deal to go through.

Well, fuck me!

Thanks for the flag-up, Soka

Crazy times. Seeing elements of the deep state working hand in hand with the media and the political establishment, basically in open warfare against the US presidency. It's like a movie. With a far fetched plot.

I know people are loving it because their interests align and they hate Trump, but stepping outside of that for a moment, the phenomenon on display here is kind of awesome and frightening.

It's moving at such an accelerated pace you'd be forgiven for thinking they're trying to make the US ungovernable. What is the end goal here. Impeachment? All this Russia stuff so far is based on the appearance of impropriety, not actual impropriety, from what I can tell. Maybe they're trying to cow Trump and his admin into submission so they start playing ball fully. Who knows.

Or maybe the Steele report is actually true and they know it. Leaks have been pointing to the fact that the IC has been able to verify more of it as time goes on. If Congress were able to get at Trump's tax returns, then there'd likely be some more proof they'd need.

What is this "deep state" nonsense I've seen cropping up? Only had ever seen it coming from Ertogan and his cronies before.

In the US, it's the Civil Service.

Not usually into Reddit conspiracy theories but it's been obvious for a long time that Russia is after Ukraine's warm water ports. In everyday life we pretend otherwise, but geography still matters immensely in this world. Hard to have killer trade deals when you have to ship your shit through another country.

I guess I still can't connect the dots as to how this brings down Trump.

Republicans in congress won't care, can't make them care, and they've already established their loyalty when not even one would flip on Devos or Sessions, not to mention they had the opportunity to obtain the Trump tax returns and passed!

Republican voters won't care. Sure, they will be unhappy with Trump and "congress" overall, but will still show up to support their local representative. They certainly won't start voting for Democrats.

2018 won't flip the house or senate.

2020 probably will.... so.... maybe Trump doesn't win reelection? Is that really going to be the outcome?

I think it's still unclear if it's treason but it's certainly an unprecedented level of corruption to the tune of billions.

Trump doesn't recognize facts that go against him.
Did we not already reach this conclusion when he argued that he had the largest inauguration crowd ever in the face of visual evidence that proved the contrary?

Even if you know and I know that the information being released is factual and has a basis in reality, Trump does not recognize them and considers them to be fueling conspiracy theories against him if they don't reinforce his flawed beliefs and those of the alt-right media influences that have poisoned his worldview.

If Trump was a normal person, this WOULD make no sense. You're absolutely right about that.
The problem is Trump is INSANE. Hence his argument makes perfect sense. To him, anyway.
He lives in a world where he is the star of the reality show known as the U.S. presidency and he is never ever wrong and, most assuredly, not a puppet.
You're totally right, I didn't think about any of that. Even if it's true, he will keep denying it forever. Once again, I'm reminded of the Argentine ex-president Cristina Kirchner, who was the same. Living in their own reality, denying the truth, declaring war against the media and courts, tweeting a lot (though she used to appear on TV much more on what is called "cadena nacional", which is a sort of emergency alert system).

I really feel bad for North Americans. Having someone like this as president is never a good thing, and can cause severe harm to the country and its population.

I think neighbouring countries you can't be reckless but not weak either. Russia overstepped but I think if they tried take a whole country, full force from the US, EU, Nato would be shown even if it was bordering on Russia.

The 1. & 2. rounds of sanctions in the wake of the annexation were only directed vs individuals:

On 6 March 2014, US president Barack Obama, invoking, inter alia, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the National Emergencies Act, signed an executive order that declared a national emergency and ordered sanctions, including travel bans and the freezing of their U.S. assets, against not-yet-specified individuals, later to be determined by the Secretary of the Treasury (in consultation with the Secretary of State) who had "asserted governmental authority in the Crimean region without the authorization of the Government of Ukraine" and whose actions were found, inter alia, to "undermine democratic processes and institutions in Ukraine"

On 28 April, the United States imposed a ban on business transactions within its territory on seven Russian officials, including Igor Sechin, executive chairman of the Russian state oil company Rosneft, and seventeen Russian companies.[24] On the same day, the European Union issued travel bans against a further fifteen individuals.[25] In connection with this, the EU issued a paper stating the aims of the sanctions. The EU states that their "sanctions are not punitive, but designed to bring about a change in policy or activity by the target country, entities or individuals. Measures are therefore always targeted at such policies or activities, the means to conduct them and those responsible for them. At the same time, the EU makes every effort to minimise adverse consequences for the civilian population or for legitimate activities"

This tepid reaction to the first Sudetenland type annexation on the European continent since almost a century was laughable and emboldened Putin to go further into Donbass.

/Also I'm not sure anything substantial would happen if Russia attacked Belarus in the same way they did in Ukraine.

The House can flip in 2018.

Republicans haven't done anything yet, but they're nervous. It's very clear to see. Every single say pushes them closer to flipping.

And two republicans flipped on DeVos, not zero. Last I checked, four were saying no on Puzder.

Also, Flynn was forced to resign because of stories like this. They are NOT immune to consequences.

I'm so sick of this attitude.

CIA airing Trump ties to Russia to prevent blackmail – report

The CIA has reportedly been working to prevent the possibility of the Kremlin blackmailing US President Donald Trump by deliberately making public everything regarding the president’s ties with Russia.

A report Wednesday by Walla news’s veteran diplomatic correspondent Oren Nahari cited an Israeli official, who said a senior member of the US intelligence community told him the agency suspects that Russia has information on Trump that can be used to pressure the US leader. As a countermeasure, US intelligence operatives are quickly leaking everything they learn about ties between Russia and the Trump administration so that the information can’t be used as leverage against the president.

Well, the US presidency is acting against the US' interests, so I think this is fair game. And as far as I know, actual impropriety has been confirmed already, and the current government did nothing to fix that situation. Don't try to paint them as victims, please.

That's... Actually oddly clever.

lol I'm trying to get into the public sector as a civil servant. Am I automatically deemed irredeemable and corrupt?

I agree that it's dumb. Just as it's dumb to use socialist as a slur or go foaming at the mouth over the word neoliberal, but it's still a term that's not always used as a slur.

It's no secret that Trump has lots of debt and a lot of it is to Russia. Pretty easy leverage for Putin, piss tape or no.

Trump has been sucking up to Russia back when Gorbachev was still in power too. It's not just Putin.

If they can get everyone in the Trump admin with direct personal, financial, or political ties to Russia out on the street, that would be a good start. That we allowed the administration to be sworn in without the president himself declaring his financial conflicts (by way of his tax returns) is a forever L to the American people.

Makes sense, burn Trump to the ground so Putin loses his control.

You mean clever as in: so Trump won't do silly things in response or clever so Russia can't hurt the US by this. If the latter, that won't make much sense...

It makes it so that if Russia releases the tape then it proves every accusation that's been leveled against them true and hurts any foreign relations they have going forward, so they can't use it for leverage. It also forces Trump to not do everything Russia wants to avoid looking like he's a puppet.

I like how he always brings up Clinton when he gets called out.

I wonder what he will say when he fucks up the enviroment so bad that more and more people start dying?

And I bet they were Bannon and Miller. Can those two go now? I know removing Trump will be a little harder, but these two should have been removed a long time ago.

Hey, Putin, is this everything you wanted in him?
You know he gave you the USA
You had him in the palm of your hand
So why your love went away

He just can't seem to understand
Thought it was you and him, baby
You and him until the end
But I guess he was wrong

Don't want to think about it
Don't want to talk about it
He's just so sick about it
Can't believe it's ending this way

Just so confused about it
Feeling the blues about it
You just can't do without him
Tell him, is this fair?

Is this the way it's really going down?
Is this how he says goodbye?
Should have known better when you came around
That you were gonna make Trump cry
It's breaking his heart to watch you run around
'Cause he knows that he's living a lie
That's okay, baby, 'cause in time he will find

Trump goes around, goes around, goes around
Comes all the way back around
