Virtual reality is making a proper comeback, first with the amazing 3D headset Oculus Rift and now with vrAse, a soon-to-be-launched device that is headed to Kickstarter soon.

With this device, users can make their smartphone into their own personal play device using virtual reality-powered 3D specs to take their game experiences into virtual reality. It’s essentially a fancified headset that sits with your eyes perched in the game experience, but it’s doing so at a budget as it’s expected to launch with a $75 price tag.

I'm totally unfamiliar with this, but is there a lot of "side by side" ready content for smartphones? I guess that the device that allows users to play that sort of stuff would spur development, just like we saw with the explosion of development when Oculus was released, I just didn't know this was a thing.

Holy crap, this is genius. Most smartphones have all of the components that the Rift has inside, and a MUCH better screen. What a smart idea.

The only thing is that there is literally no software for this yet, and there's no way you could use it to play PC games (as far as I know) without some insane wireless mirroring, which almost definitely wouldn't work.

Still, kudos for actually putting together an idea that a lot of people have probably thought of. I know I considered something like this before. It'd be sweet if it'll work with the new iPhone.

There is actually a product out there like this. I think it was called My3D or something like that. Same basic principle, you put your phone in a little case that separates the two parts of the screen so you see in 3D. But it definitely wasn't as nice as this.
