Hi,

I think I've discovered a big with in the PS3 firmware. I'm running the latest version, but i haven't tested any previous versions, so I don't know if the problem is new or not.

Anyway, the issue is when I display an image using the Photo viewer, after some period of time (hour+), the image gets cropped down.

I uncovered it because I'm trying to fix an unrelated LCD image retention problem with my monitor. I read that displaying a blank, white screen will fix the issue. So I created a 1280x720 image of plain white. You can see the image here:

After displaying the image for an extended period of time, the PS3 shrinks the image horizontally so it appears as if it went from 1280x720 to about 400x720. I copied the image back to a memory stick, and the actual image file hasn't changed. On the PC, its the same as it was prior to transferring it to the PS3.

Obviously, this bug is pretty counter-productive for my purposes. I'm trying to fix a stuck image on my LCD, and PS3 is potentially causing 2 more!

Anyway, I'd appreciate it if some of you could download my image, copy it to your PS3 and see if you can duplicate the problem.

Err.... it went to slideshow mode and started animating the pic like it always do?
Also, i dont quite understand whats the problem with ur LCD. i mean why did u had to go thru all the process..? Maybe its ur LCD and not PS3?

Turn off slide show. Just view the image without any animations or anything.

i think you might just found a HEN exploit for the ps3. Hackers might use this for homebrew

This is unrelated to the PS3 bug, but I've read that image retention problems (and stuck pixels) in some cases can be "fixed" by using an animated GIF that alternates between a dark and light color over-and-over again. I've never read of only using solid white.
