omg, i forgot the draft was tonight and i just turned it on at pick 41 or something. but holy shit, jay bilas's and steven a smith's commentary has been fucking hilarious.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I really hope Jawad Williams gets picked...

Boston gets Ryan Gomes, another steal.

Boston has had an awesome last two drafts.

Seriously. I don't see why a team like Charlotte didn't pick Green up....instead they got Sean May, who plays the same position (PF) as Okafor, and is extra chunky to boot. By the way, if all the GM's could redo last year's draft, Al Jefferson would go second (behind Dwight Howard).
Charlotte's GM only wants NBA ready players right now.

Since Shinobi's banned, I'll do my best impression of a rational person right now.

This isnt' that bad for the Raps.

If we had drafted Graham at 7, Roku at 16 and Charlie at 41 people wouldn't be freaking out, yet because of the order in which they went, and percieved mock draft value, it's a total disaster. Draft Green with your #1 pick and Raptorland is happy. Same with Granger....Oh well. If we're not going to move Charlie, I'll hope for the best. It sure wil be fun having a guy that looks that spooky on your team I guess.

what was he banned for?

I really wish we had taken Danny Granger though; I mean, we were considering him at 5 (reportedly) so for him to fall to 13, I thought it was a slam dunk that we'd take him. But I'm still happy with May.

Yeah, Sports Guy is going to be gloating in that column tomorrow. It's going to be a must read.

Edit: Is Randy Pfund suffering from the same big head disease as Jerry Lewis?

He was banned in the Hate thread for posting a picture, but I thought he got unbanned...

On a different note:

North Carolina 4, Illinois 2. SUCK IT DOWN!*

*UNC is gonna suck next year. :-(

I agree, Granger sould've been the pick over May.

Yeah :( Hopefully when Ellington and Lawson come we will reassume ACC dominance.

Oh man, what a draft for the Lakers.. First they pick the 2005 version of Oliver Miller. And later they pick a guy who's had serious anger management issues.. INCLUDING elbowing somone in the face to draw blood during a workout...

BUT, I think Ronny Turiaf will be a solid player for them.

Damn, Nuggets had me going until they did that stupid trade with the Blazers (which is official). I thought they might have had a good draft for once that wasn't a no-brainer pick (read: 2003) , but then they ship a legit point guard who can shoot away for two nobodies. Julius Hodge would've made more sense to trade, because we need a better backup for Andre than Boykins, and I think Jack could've done it. If Hodge proves me wrong, I'll gladly eat my words, but what this team needs is a shooter, not another slasher. If he doesn't learn to shoot, dude better handle the ball like a PG and play it well, too.

And Babcock needs to be fired. Now. Drafting Villanueva @ 7, when you have KG 2.0 up and coming, with Green, Granger, and even McCants left... just... wow. Richard Peddie needs get rid of him and start that club over for the 5th time in 5 years. That Dr. Suess rhyme about him is totally applicable and valid to him and his dumbass moves. If you didn't believe they should be in the NBDL before, you HAVE to now.

Editt: Also, damn the Nuggets office for not taking Garcia, he'd be the perfect fit for this team :(

btw, seattle had the steal of the night with their 48th pick. just watch.

I've heard really good things about Gelebale. Very good shooter and defender. I was pretty sure he was going to be the Spurs pick at 28th from everything I've read the last couple of weeks.

Maybe you'll be right for the first time since... forever. :-p

lmao I'm watching SportsCenter where they're doing "All Access with Chris Paul" and they showed Paul watching AtH, at the point where Tim Calishaw was talking about how Green woud be the best player out of the draft and Paul wouldn't do too good because he is only 6' and Paul said, "Whadda ya mean ya can't be good if you aren't taller than 6'? Don't tell that to Steve Nash, he's league MVP. Tom Cowlishaw..."

"*chuckles* haha...dey so dumb...

Felton/Hart
Robinson/Miles
Wallace
Okafor/May
Brezec/Ely

And that's assuming Knight, Kapono, Rush and Bogans don't return

Holy crap! On papaer, the Bobcats are much more balanced and IMO a better team than the Lakers *faints*

Gerald Green's family applauded 4 times last night In no particular order:

1. When he was finally drafted (obvious)
2. When Vitale expressed surprise that he had fallen so far

The family also applauded twice when the Toronto Raptors didn't select Green.

The only way this kid will turn into anything decent is if Kobe beats him into becoming a decent player. Jordan did this with a lot of success with Pippen, Kerr, Cartwright, etc. Kobe will have to give the tub a few years of leniency though as the high schoolers can crack under that kind of barrage the first few years, as seen with Kwame. But once he hits 20, Kobe needs to go Bill Cartwright on his ass.

Kobe this is the one and only time you should be like Mike!

he's already doing that.

I watched the draft for about 20 minutes and had to turn it off. ESPN coverage was horrible. Is there a player the analysts didn't like? Hell we had Jason Kidd, Scottie Pippen, Tracy McGrady, and Isiah Thomas all invoked in this telecast. Pathetic. Please don't broadcast another NBA draft after the first 12 picks next year Kthx.

and I'll save you the trouble

"8:14 – Remember my running joke about Charlie Villanueva looking like the lead singer of Midnight Oil? Well, Charlie has a new claim to fame – he just became one of the top-five worst picks in the history of the NBA draft. Toronto took him seventh. Seventh! Seventh! Rob Babcock just drafted Rafael Araujo and Charlie Villanueva with back-to-back top-10 picks when he already had Chris Bosh! And he just left Green and Danny Granger on the board! Throw in the Carter trade and are we absolutely sure that Babcock isn't Scott Layden using a fake Canadian passport? You're lucky I didn't start out as the Toronto Sports Guy, I would have been capable of 25 to 30 straight Babcock columns this summer."

That was great! Surprised to see espn.com allow that Page 2 posting to go through. I love this quote:

Hello everyone and welcome to the NBA Draft at Madison Square Garden in New York City, home of the Knicks and (whoops, I have to sound excited when I say this) the New York Liberty! A quick note – this is the last year that we will allow high schoolers to be drafted. As you probably heard by now, I have destroyed the Players Association again. There's nothing left. Just rubble. Don't challenge me again – next time, the casualties will be significant. I'm warning you …"

:lol :lol :lol

9:02 – ESPN should have a feature in the post-draft special with NBA fans calling friends who aren't watching the draft to tell them what happened in the last 10 picks. I just called my buddy House, who's at the Nationals game in DC right now – he let out a series of "What? You're lying! What? What? Come on! Get out of here! Whaaaaaaaaat?" Highest of high comedy. I felt like I was telling him that I just grew three extra nipples and a third leg.

That's very true....and his friend's a Celtics fan! Imagine my conversation :(

edit: one of his weakest diaries I think. Too many wingspan jokes and the whole thing felt tired. Not bad, just weak for his previous standards.

Yeah, definately weak, not even that long.

Andrew Bynum - all the local hoop gurus (I live in the area) are calling this pick an absolute steal.*

* A steal for Andrew Bynum stealing money from the Lakers I mean.

So did anyone figure out what the Lakers' "secret" was that Pippen talked about last week? I'm pretty curious, myself. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another flagrant bending/changing of the rules to help LA become competitive again, a la the change to a 7 game first round a couple of years back (i.e., "the LA rule"). :D

Maybe he can afford some eyebrow hair transplants from a cadaver or something now that he is in the NBA making the big bucks.

Hey that's not nice! 4 million Americans have Alopecia! If you visited his store you'd know that "the majority of the sale proceeds will be donated to the following non-profit organizations: National Alopecia Areata Foundation, Time Square Church, and Red Cross; the remaining profits will be used to maintain this website." He's just a good guy!

I think it suffered in large part due to the fact that he did it with nobody else in the room.

A shame, so many directions to go with so many aspects of the draft. He phoned it in during a great draft.

There wouldn't happen to be a torrent of the Draft floating around would there? There's so many things that Sports Guy mentioned that I wish I could have seen. McCants tapping Stern on the shoulder :lol

:lol at Bill Simmons on ESPN radio talking about the Bynum pick. The host + Bill were ripping on the pick pretty hard, and Bill thinks there's a conspiracy out there to drive Kobe out of town.

They took a few calls from Laker fans as well, one of them who argued that it's a good pick because it's a sign that soon the Lakers will completely bottom out, Mitch Kuptchak will be out, Phil will be gone, and someone else will be brought in to clean house.

Lakers get to play with 6 players instead of 5, they are allowed to carry knives onto the court, and they get a 10 point lead to start every game.

P.S. No matter what your black heart says, the 7 game first round change will always and forever be known as the T-Mac rule. Stern hates T-Mac and knows that T-Mac's powers vanish after winning 3 games dooming him to forever stay in the first round (Yao's powers vanish after running up and down the court 2 times, but Stern had nothing to do with that).

Denver personel Jim Harrick, was on one of the LA radio show here in LA. He said he knows for a fact, that the Lakers #10 pick in Bynum was a draft pick for another team. The Lakers are in the works with a trade with another team.

The radio station guy said, you may be right. Mitch and Phil said they won't draft a High School Kid. And Phil never gives rooke a minute of playing time. Jim Harrick response by saying, in July you will see who the Lakers traded him to, and what kind of players the Lakers will get back in return..

I had a feeling about this...I sorta knew something was up, The Lakers front office werent too excited after this pick..

Don't get too happy, Loki. THE SECRET LIVES!!!!!! :D

The shot clock was put in play 50 years ago to stop the Chinese from dominating in the NBA. Think about it, if the Rockets could take their time on offense, say 5 mins, then Yao would be the next Wilt!

The US GOVT is against T-Mac and Yao creating a dynasty!

Q. Commissioner, with the 14 player roster, does that mean now, does the injured list situation change or no, you can have 14 active?

COMMISSIONER DAVID STERN: We are going to change the injured list situation to a point where every team can have up to 15 players on its roster the roster will be expanded to 15, 12 active.

Can anyone explain to me what Stern is talking about? He doesn't mention 14, and the situation he described already is in place.

WTF @ the BET Awards

Performers included Destiny's Child, Missy Elliott, The Game and Mary J. Blige. The Game carried his young son on stage and changed the lyrics to his song, "Hate It Or Love It," saying, "Got BET on the grill of my low-rider."

The women of Destiny's Child wore slinky brown dresses in their performance and pulled Nelly, Terence Howard and NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson onstage for a trio of lap dances.

Stevie Wonder closed the show with his current single “What the Fuss.” Smith gave a shoutout to Michael Jordan before Will and Jada announced the final award of the night – Video of the Year – to Kanye West. The couple then joined Wonder, who returned to sing “Happy Birthday” to BET in honor of its 25th anniversary this year.

Magic gets a lap dance and Jordan gets a shoutout from Will Smith, wtf. :(

Stern thinking: "And once I get those hitman to take out Billy Hunter, the NBA will be MINE, ALL MINE!!!!...

*McCants taps Stern*

Stern: Eh, what?...oh, your handshake!, yes young man, here you go!

Magic married someone named Cookie who stayed married to him even after she found out he contracted HIV (even though he had sex with so many women even just the year before he got it that he said it was impossible to know who he got it from). Jordan is a married to a scary alien who is threatening to divorce him and take the kids if he gets out of line, this after some scary ugly white women tried to blackmail him for something that happened like 10 years earlier.

Not that hard to figure out DM. Jordan obviously married the devil.

But Tom Brady was only 10 years old at the time Jordan got married...

Holy crap! On papaer, the Bobcats are much more balanced and IMO a better team than the Lakers *faints*

Here's what I want the Bobcats to do:

Resign: Knight, Kapono, Rush, Wallace, and Carroll.

Sign Wesley Person from Denver (can't remember if he was a RFA or a URFA).

That's it. That's all. Here is what the roster would look like:

Felton/Knight/Hart
Person/Rush/Carroll
Wallace/Kapono
Okafor/May/Ely
Brezec/Okafor/Ely

I can definately see the Bobcats using Okafor at C and May at PF when Brezec is resting on the bench.
