EDIT: Ok, I just saw it. I'm kind of surprised that he said he was listening to somebody in the audience though. I don't know if it's just me, but I was on the taekwondo team in college and whenever I was in a match, I was so focused that I literally couldn't hear anything outside my immediate vicinity. It's like tunnel vision except for audio.

It's the same way for free throws, I don't get bothered by people heckling me since I don't hear them. I imagine most NBA players are like that.

I think it'd be awesome for golf, i.e. my interest in it. We'd undoubtedly some really creative new course designs.

I don't want to belabor the point but it cost upwards of 10 million (30 million with a resort attached) to build a new golf course and have it running (according to USGA). In comparison it costs anywhere from 500 million (New Indianapolis Colts stadium) to a couple billion (see New Yankee stadium) to make a new stadium.

Of course, this is all in US dollars.. so it might actually cost 75 bucks in Europe.

but if you think about it, I don't think most countries can field more than 2 or 3 players that's worth anything. Golf takes up 4 days for 1 tournament. I guess you could have team play then another round the next week for single play. Then it's that whole backward ass scoring other countries accept as the norm. Too many complications. Hot Dog Eating would be a better sport.

Edit: Countries which could put forth fairly competitive golfing teams: United States, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand.

Thats more than field competitive basketball teams.

the real truth of why there is no golf at the olympics is you don't play any better in it on steroids, so the IOC probably doesn't view it as a legit sport.

Doesn't make it any less amazing. Gymnastics gives out a ton of medals too, as does diving, but nobody in either sport--or anywhere--has gotten 10 golds, right? I mean, he may well not be the greatest Olympian ever, but if he gets eight golds this time around I'd be hard-pressed to name a greater one.
