Lambtron said:If he can't (and this season is showing me they cannot adapt on the fly) they need to find a new manager, and fast, while their window is still open with this core.
The Blue Jays' Jo-Jo Reyes has matched a major league record by making his 28th consecutive start without recording a win.
Reyes was pulled after the third inning of Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees with Toronto trailing 5-0. The Yankees went on to win 7-3.
Reyes hasn't won a game since June 13, 2008, when he beat the Los Angeles Angels as a member of the Atlanta Braves.
On Wednesday against the Yankees, the left-hander allowed all five runs on five hits and two walks, including two-run homers by former Atlanta teammates Andruw Jones and Mark Teixeira.
Matt Keough of the Athletics set the record for consecutive starts without a win from Sept. 6, 1978, to Aug. 8, 1979. Keough pitched a complete game in his next start on Sept. 5, breaking the streak with a 6-1 victory over the Brewers.
In my mind the core is Mauer, Morneau, Span, Baker, Liriano. Valencia & Nishioka profile out to be solid players. Blackburn & Duensing are fine back of the rotation types. Gibson should be a good #2 type pitcher. They have what seems to be a steady stream of outfielders who can hit and field a bit (Revere, Benson, Morales, Hicks) that should be ready in the next year or two, which should help a lot.tyguy20204 said:I hate to be that guy, but what is this core that you speak of?
Mauer, when healthy, is a true talent. Beyond that, though? Who do the Twins have? Obviously in former seasons, Morneau would be mentioned here. But who knows if he'll ever truly return to the levels he was at before suffering the concussion? Span is a nice player, but he's not a key piece. Cuddyer, Kubel, Young...meh.
Blackburn is an excellent pitcher. Scott Baker is terribly underrated. Liriano is a huge question mark.
I absolutely love Kubel, but I fear he'll be gone after this season. Thome, Kubel, and Cuddyer are all FAs after this year. Thome is 40 years old, Kubel is basically a DH and corner outfielder who bats left handed, and Cuddyer is a favorite of the manager since he does magic tricks in the club house and will (poorly) play all over the infield in addition to the outfield.ProtoCents said:Hey, show some respect to Kubel. He has been great this season.

C'mon, man. Saying "suck it!" after getting a series win against this team is like doing a victory dance after beating a 5 year old in checkers.
I had the opposite result of this.BertramCooper said:I always forget about these Thursday afternoon games.
But damn, I'm definitely glad I did today. What a mess.
I just remembered that it's Wednesday, so now I'm doubly confused.Sanjuro Tsubaki said:I had the opposite result of this.
I personally think some afternoon games are great. The problem is MLB rarely has them, especially for this Sox team. So color me surprised when I tune into Sox-in-2 replay.BertramCooper said:I just remembered that it's Wednesday, so now I'm doubly confused.
Why exactly was today's game an afternoon game? I don't get MLB's scheduling.
I take what I can get at this point with the lineup.metsallica said:But so much for capitalizing, 'cuz Russell came in looking nasty.
Duane Cunningham said:What the HELL, Hochevar. He keeps having this cycle where he has nine or ten consecutive scoreless innings spread out over a couple of nights, and then when it's time to crash back down to earth, he crashes HARD.
I'm going on Friday, fourth time this year. It's a good meal, night out. They're 0-3 so far.The Frankman said:I take what I can get at this point with the lineup.
I was going to get Mets/Phils tickets for this Saturday. Good seats on Stubhub for Section 138 Row 3, Pagan going to be back. Plus Hamels pitching, who the Mets usually give fits. Plus a nice giveaway too! Was about to order when I saw Mike Pelfrey was pitching...
Logged out and closed the computer. I'm a glutton for punishment, but not THAT much.
You went into NBA-GAF? Usually me, Sharp, and RBH are the only real MLB-GAF posters there.vas_a_morir said:Man, there is too much crossover between NBA-GAF and PonyGAF. Ever notice this?
Enjoy man. That's Sports Bag Night right?metsallica said:I'm going on Friday, fourth time this year. It's a good meal, night out. They're 0-3 so far.
Gardenhire playing favorites? No. Way.Tom Shipley said:To make room for Slowey in the rotation, the Twins would have to send someone to the bullpen in his stead, and Gardenhire said Wednesday he won't do that. Brian Duensing, who has pitched well as a reliever, would be the best candidate.
"I'm not going to punish Duensing because one guy can't pitch out of the bullpen, I'll tell you that right now," Gardenhire said. "Take Duensing. Maybe he could (pitch out of the bullpen). Sure, we know he can, but I won't punish this young man because another guy can't do it.
"To me, that's wrong. I like Duensing in the rotation. I like the kid. So he's in there. I think it's unfair to punish Brian Duensing."
I love Duensing's comment at the end.Lambtron said:
Yeah. Exactly.CygnusXS said:I love Duensing's comment at the end.
Maybe you should stop using Masset in the 9th inning then.vas_a_morir said:Feels like we always lose the games that go into the bottom of the 9th tied. This will be no different.
Lambtron said:So Jayson Stark says the Braves want a right handed outfielder & a utility infielder? Could I interest you in a Delmon Young and an Alexi Casilla?
We'll take Linebrink's salary. I don't care. Just get Delmon Young off this team.CygnusXS said:How the fuck Philly did not score there, I do not know.
Lambtron: hahaha no
goooooood news...verbum said:Looks like the Reds are coming out of their slump in time for this weekend in Atlanta.
Mixed blessings-I appreciate them beating the Phillies. I do not want a hot Reds team in Atlanta.
Marlins now one of the best teams in baseball and I do not miss Uggla whatsoever. We're better with what we got for him and the money we saved.bjb said:Uggla is the Mark Reynolds of the NL.
Exactly!CygnusXS said:lamby: Linebrink would actually be one of your better relievers.
