At least you have guys like Chipper and Heyward. We routinely hit Adam Kennedy #3.

Hell Franklin Gutierrez hit #3 the other night and he's hitting under .200!

edit: Good Luck at rest of season if using Franklin at #3. Kennedy should be used at either #2 or at the bottom

How in the world do the Braves stay in the top three in wins in MLB? Phillies have 54 wins, the Braves and Yankees both have 50. Just pitching? Must be since the Yankees are 12th in offense, the Phillies are 21st, and the Braves are 26th. So is pitching the most important element in a baseball team? Or could you really hit your way to a championship these days with poor pitching?

Derek Jeter Responsible For All 27 Outs in Yankee Loss
Some history was made last night. In his return from the DL, Derek Jeter reclaimed his leadoff spot and promptly went 0-for-4. But that's not news: Jeter's gone 0-for-4 plenty of times this year. Plenty. What is news is that the Yankees only managed to squeeze out four hits against Indians pitching. Since that potent lineup had not been held to just four hits in the three weeks since Jeter's calf injury, it was clear that Derek Jeter was personally accountable for every failed plate appearance by every Yankee player.

The statistical oddity became apparent early on, when the Yankees put the first two men on base to start the game. With slugger Mark Teixeira at the plate, Jeter grounded weakly to second base.

"I knew something was up," Teixeira said after the game. "I'm there, with a 1-2 count, I'm sitting breaking ball, and next thing I know Jeet's grounded out without moving the runners over."

The Yankees were held hitless through the first six innings by Cleveland rookie Josh Tomlin, who at one point retired 18 straight batters, all of them Derek Jeter.

"Not sure I've ever seen one player ground out weakly to second that many times in a row," said Indians manager Manny Acta. "His calf is still probably bothering him."

The Elias Sports Bureau reports that the 26 weak grounders to second equal a major league record, set by Derek Jeter on April 13, April 19, April 29, and May 10-21. The record could have been all his, if not for a weak pop to the catcher in foul territory in the ninth.

"Should have had it," lamented Chris Perez, who closed out the game by retiring Jeter three times in just three pitches. "Should have had the record. But I got the ball up."

Manager Joe Girardi chalked up the evening to rust, pointing out that Jeter only played in two rehab games before rejoining the team.

"He's a veteran, he's been through stretches like this before," Girardi told reporters. "He'll work it out. If he got down on himself every time he made all 27 outs, he wouldn't be a Hall of Famer."

Girardi said Jeter would be batting leadoff again tonight.

With the way the Tigers have been playing lately- its already showing signs of their famous second half collapse. The team has four, maybe a fifth, all-stars..it would be a joke if they dont make the post season.

need less of those votes and more victorino/zobrist, aka the more deserving players.
 
There are two halves of the game, and Konerko does not contribute much on the defensive one while Zobrist is elite defensively at a much tougher position.

well of course the all star game is about who is more popular. Jeter and chipper fucking made the team. Anyway, Papi is one of the top 5 hitters in the AL this year so i see nothing wrong with him being the DH (although i would prefer Cabrera and Konerko is relativily similar to Papi anyway). And yeah, Zobrist is the much more valuable player at the moment than Konerko, they are relativly the same offensively but defense and postion is a whole another story. Konerko is a avg. defensive 1st baseman and Zobrist is a elite defensive 2nd baseman.

edit: and fielding percentage is a horrible stat.

I am looking forward to the Tigers games at Target Field after the All Star Break. Maybe the Twins won't just roll over and die.

Just because Matt Crapps is human garbage and can't pitch for a damn doesn't mean they're the new Royals.

Hopefully they finish the Tampa series strong. They follow that up with sixteen games against the AL Central wrapped around the All Star Break, 4 at Chicago and 12 at home against Cleveland, Detroit, and KC. That should really show where they're at.

They were 15 games back in late May, now 8 games back. If they can can be 4 games back by August 1st, I can see them getting the wildcard at least. Just don't roll over in the playoffs like last year.

At the very least, if they're within 6 or 7 by the break, they should be competitive down the stretch. Then they'd just have to hope they don't have to face the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs again, should they make it.

The Red Sox and the Angels will be in contention for wildcards as well. When the Twins can expand their rosters to 40 on September 1, will they get much help? The White Sox are looking strong. Will Cleveland collapse in September? A big hill for the Twins to climb.
 
even with the AL East beating up each other, i don't see the wild card coming out of the central or west. Its going to suck to be the third place finisher in the east, one of the best three teams in the AL is not going to go to the playoffs.

I don't forsee a ton of help in September. Maybe Carlos Gutierrez in the bullpen, maybe a couple of other 'pen arms. The most help they're going to get is getting Span, Kubel, and Delmon healthy at some point in July or August, and maybe Morneau at the end of August.

And yeah, basically if the Twins make this happen everyone else will have collapsed and they'll win the Central with like 85-86 wins.

Yup its all or nothing for the west and midwest in both leagues...East will have 2 in the playoffs. If they were to extend to 2 wildcards at some point can it be from same division or they gonna break that too..

Not exactly sure how that would work, I would assume they just take the best 2 records not leading the division. The best way to do it would be to just get rid of the divisions and just take the top 4/5 teams.
 
Lol, Dusty Baker having the MLB leader in Ks batting leadoff, a player with an OPS under 700 batting cleanup, and the worst hitter in the NL in the lineup tonight. What an awful manager.

The Florida Marlins have just acquired outfielder Mike Cameron from the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations. The Red Sox designated him for assignment on June 30 after hitting just .149 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs in 33 games. Cameron is in the final year of a 2-year, $15.5 million contract signed after the 2009 season. He is still owed about $3.5 million for the rest of the season, which the Red Sox will be paying.

Marlins made a good move. Cameron still is fiery and can be a vet influence. His K rate is alarming though.
