Oh Rafa! :lol

In other news.... Juan Pablo Angel completed his Aston Villa to NY Red Bulls more today. I hope he works out for them. I haven't been following him recently, but his form has been rather uneven over the last few years, eh?
I was feeling pretty happy about Angel coming to New York until I heard today that Marvell Wynne was traded to Toronto! For what? Oh just a few draft picks. WTF! He was one of the brightest future stars in American soccer. I hope you enjoy him Shinobi because he was a great player to have for a year.

great win for arsenal today.

and a basic lock of a champions league spot.

cesc played fantastic today... some great balls up to adebayor, and his goal was some great stuff.

hleb had some questionable decisions except his brilliant move at the end of the game to Baptista, but i felt when diaby came out of the game after 30 minutes, the arsenal attack lost some of its flow. in the second half it was back to the old arsenal ways which was good to see.

Lehmann's play was questionable at best. The goal man city got was basically Lehmann's fault and it raddled him for the rest of the game.

Rosicky played some good football, his goal was almost identical to the one against Bolton on saturday. I'm now calling him 'Sneaky Rosicky' :lol

all-in-all, a good arsenal performance.

I heard about the Wynne trade, too. He really hasn't developed the way that people assumed that he would, and now apparently Arena feels like he's excess baggage, as well? Note that Arena didn't start him last week... Interesting decision. From Toronto's perspective, they're somewhat limited in the draft because I believe they have to field a certain number of Canadians, and I think Red Bull was well over the cap, so they needed to clear some space. Still, I was suprised at the decision.

I watched the Arsenal game tonight. Good stuff! :D Good to see Rosicky and Cesc get the goals. I thought Adebayor had a great game and deserved one, as well. Baptista looked much better (even without the goal) but Eboue wasn't playing well. Also, I was happy that Beasley (aka Run DMB aka The Beezle) played pretty well. Hopefully he gets a full time move to City as I think it's a much better situation for him than at PSV.

Oh dear Italians!!!! :lol :lol

Poland and Ukraine host Euro 2012.
Poland and Ukraine have been chosen to host the 2012 European Championships. Italy were widely expected to win the Uefa vote in Cardiff, with another joint bid from Croatia and Hungary also in the running.

At least it'll be cold enough for the English to feel at home!

Poland & Ukraine? I don't really agree with that.

It's not really tempting to go there.

edit: having just looked at pictures of Poland, it's not too bad actually. Looks a lot like Germany. Need to check out the Ukraine too.

Hell yes!!!!! Ukraine and Poland! This is gonna be awesome! Man, I didnt believe that we have a chance till the last moment, incredible.
Both countries did great job in the bid, both presidents were yesterday in Cardiff for example, and Shevchenko with Dudek presenting the bid was rather good move.
Main downside of our bid was a big travel distance for the fans, but I think its planned to build some high-speed train connections for that. This bid is very important to our countries as it will really help to improve the infrastructure. Super stadiums will be build, some are already under construction, look for example what they are building in Donetzk, should be done within a year:

All in all, good move from UEFA. They are spreading their business to a new 85Million people market and really pushing the development of football forward. Just look what happened with Portugal after Euro, football has amazing power. :)

The Poland and Ukraine bid received eight votes to Italy's four. Croatia and Hungary got none. It is the first time either country has been chosen to host a major tournament.

Wow, just wow. Total pwnage, massive damage. :)

Yeah I agree with most of this, but, I think Hleb played quite a bit better then he has in recent games today, still not at his best but it's coming back.....
Diaby leaving the game really did have an effect on the team, he seems like the kind of player who's just will to work hard for the ball as well as make lots of forward runs, pretty much the same style as Viera I guess. :-/

Lehman really was nervous after his mistake, I think it brought him back to a couple of seasons ago when he did that quite a few times..

Rosicky's goal was the kind of goal Arsenal would regularly score a while back, you would always have Ljungberg or Pires running in there to get the nice tap in and put us ahead. I've been saying with missed that for a while now and I'm glad Rosicky has taken it upon himself to be that player. :) I always thought he should as he seems to be very fast..

Urgh, Baptista barely did a thing most the time he was on the pitch, he influenced the game a bit in the second half, but, really I wouldn't say he played well. Maybe he's being effected by the transfer talks or a lack of confidence, but, at this moment Diaby is a better forward then him. :-/

Adebayour played better then in recent games, but, he really should have scored when Rosi played the ball back to him.... :(

You can't really be suprised though with all the stuff going on in Italian football these days though can you? :-/ Maybe if the bid was placed a few years ago it would have been more successful but I didn't really expect them to win as it is........ :-/

And finally.......

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has sent a hands-off warning to American billionaire Stan Kroenke over any potential takeover of the club

He added: "These people love Arsenal, they are independently wealthy and do not need the money. Having a few extra million pounds in the bank is of no interest to them.

"We're here for Arsenal football club, not to make a few bob. The club has been run for the benefit of supporters, staff and players."

I really think the architectures look very similar

That's no wonder, considering that

- germany and poland are neighbouring countries and
- that huge parts of now western poland used to be German (i.e. Upper and Lower Silesia, Eastern Prussia).

Cities like Krakau, Gdansk and Breslau (I think it is called Wroczwaw) are actually quite enjoyable. Apart from that, Poland is cheap. DOn't know about live in the Ukraine though.

Projected stadiums of EURO2012:

POLAND

Gdansk. "Baltic Arena". Will be built in 2008-2010. Capacity: 44 000.

Poznan. City Stadium. Was builit in 1980. Will be extended from 24 166 to 46 500 at 2008.

Warsaw. National Stadium. Will be built in 2007-2009. Capacity: 70 000. Host of opening match.

Krakow. Stadium "Wisla". Was built in 1954., under reconstruction. Capacity in 2010 - 33 000.

UKRAINE

Kyiv. Olympic Stadium. Was built in 1923 г. Current capacity 84 000, will be reduced after reconstruction to 75 000. Host of Final.

Dnipropetrovsk. Stadium "Dnipro" will be completed in September 2007. Capacity : 35 000.

Donetzk. Stadium "Shakhtar" gonna be finished till the end of 2007. Capacity: 50 000.

Lwiw. Stadium "Ukraine". Was built in 70th. Capacity: 40 000. Will be reconstructed.

Arsenal chairman snubs US buyer

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has sent a hands-off warning to American billionaire Stan Kroenke over any potential takeover of the club.

Kroenke recently bought 9.9% of Arsenal and also acquired more shares from major stakeholder Danny Fiszman, sparking talk of a takeover.

But Hill-Wood told the Guardian: "The shareholders would prefer to stay in control than sell out to some stranger.

"We would be horrified to see ownership of the club go across the Atlantic."

Hill-Wood claims that he and three of the club's major shareholders - Fiszman, Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith and the Carr family - have "no intention of selling".

He added: "These people love Arsenal, they are independently wealthy and do not need the money. Having a few extra million pounds in the bank is of no interest to them.

"We're here for Arsenal football club, not to make a few bob. The club has been run for the benefit of supporters, staff and players."

I love him

The idea that Italy were overlooked because of the scandals doesn't really make sense, given that Poland have their own problems with football hooliganism and match-fixing recently. They should have given it to Croatia/Hungary if it was because of that.

It's the FA Cup final tonight, Blackburn v Watford. We've been dreadful against the bottom teams this year and we did play a day later and for 30 minutes more...but dammit, we better win.

EDIT: Has there been a takeover which has hurt a club yet, btw?

Thats a very big surprise. Italy looked certain to get it. I cant believe ploand and ukraien got it. Its frustrating because I dont like seeing small teams host the tournaments. They get automatic qualification Id rather have good quality teams in the tournament instead of weak ones. Poland can be a decent side at times, but its going to be hard for them to even get out of the group stages and into the quarter finals? As for ukraine, they're almost guaranteed to be knocked out staright away. Sheva wont even be playing in 2012, or if he is he's going to be old and certainly wont have the quality that he's got now. However they can always cause a surprise. There have been some big surprises in the past, such as south korea getting to the semi's of the world cup and greece winning the euro, but such occasions are unlikely.

I wonder how are england team will look. I goal its either going to be carson or foster, it depends on how they progress during those years. Our right back will be micah richards. Lennon will be our winger, whilst theo could either be a striker or a winger. Rooney will be 26, so its the time when he will peak. he's a possible candidate for capatincy too. Those are the ones that look certain to be in the 2012 first team. Downing could make it into the team too. I cant think of any central midfielders other than tom huddlestone. Lamps, gerrard, hargreaves and carrick will all be 30+, so they're unlikely to get a first team role unless their standard of football doesnt drop with age. The same goes with the central defenders. Its still a long way and there could be players who emerge and become really good. i can think of a couple for every position other than left backs and centre backs.

This is the squad that Im picturing.

GK
Foster
Carson
Robinson

RB
Richards

LB

CB

Wingers
Downing
Lennon
Walcott

CM
Huddlestone

Strikers
Rooney
Vaughn

Not that I can think of, but Im only thinking about the ones that have happened recently and they've been in charge too short of a time to judge wether things will be ok or not. The glazers have plenty of debt which could hurt United and the same could be said about liverpools owners. chelsea could be ****ed if abramovich walks too. I dont think takeovers affect smaller clubs who are still relatively small after the takeover such as portsmouth because despite more money being available in the transfer market, there is no debt on the club, the players are not being paid very high wages and they are not making a huge loss, so whatever trouble they get into can be sorted.

I think the talk about takeovers being bad is taken overboard. They might not be the best situation to be in, especially with someone like the glazers, but you've got to remember they've made billions because they are good businessmen. They want United to succeed so that they can make money, so they are not going to put themselves in a situation that will make them lose a lot of money.

So far they've not done much wrong. We've spent enough in the transfer market, so gears that we cant buy expensive players is wrong. The £18 million spent on carrick proves that. They're relying on United to win silverware to cover the debts, and at the moment it looks like United are in a healthy situation to do that. We've got the best player in the world, who wo will help us win things and will also become a huge marketing figure, maybe even on the same scale as david beckham. The new Tv deal is also very good news when it comes to money. It means that we can get an extra £20 million from winning the league or coming runners up and thats money that the glazers didnt expect to receive.

:lol @ Italy. Wow. Can't believe they lost out to Poland/Ukraine. I feel badly for Croatia/Hungary, though. :( I've never been to Ukraine, but I had a fun time in Krakow a few years ago - it's a great city.

I thought Baptista was better last night - a few good touches, a nice freekick that was headed wide, and good interplay with his teammates. I'm not saying he's the solution to Arsenal's striking woes or anything, just that I saw some much better play from him than in recent weeks. He actually looked somewhat useful out there.

Ade really just needs a goal - he's consistently setting up his teammates and getting into dangerous positions, but his luck/aim has been poor. I feel like once he gets rolling he'll be fine.

In general, Arsenal feel like a somewhat fragile(?) team right now - when they're really going for it, they look great, but a slight crisis and they have a lot of confidence issues. They looked awesome at the beginning of the match last night, then poor after the equalizer, then great toward the end. Yes, I realize that Man City was pushing up towards the end and that opened it up a lot...

Dont worry about Ukraine, in the last year we were second at U-21 Euro, these boys will be pretty much in full power by 2012. And among younger ones we have even more promising guys, just watch U-17 U-16 championships soon. For example to qualify for U-17 Euro 2007 finals our boys beat Chech Rep., Slovakia, I think, and , guess who :), Italy.
Ukraine is no ****ing small, we are just new. :) Till 2012 you'll understand. :)

Man, I still cant believe it. :)

not in England I think.

I know of one though, in Austria Frank Stronach (an Austrian Canadian tycoon, owner of a company called Magna) took over Austria Vienna in 1999. He invested shitloads, went through 12 or 13 managers in 8 years and they were champion once in that time. He's allegedly leaving now, with the club financially worse off than they were before.

He did have good intentions, built a big youth academy and stuff but all in all it was a shambles.

Unless the Glazers sell a big player this summer, I think it's safe to say they are indeed here to run a football club well and not just make some money quickly. And perhaps the only player big enough and young enough to bring in a good amount of money, enough to actually remove a large chunk of debt, would be Rooney. Other than Ronaldo of course, but that situation's already sorted.

I don't expect that at all, I just think that if this summer passes by without a big player being sold, even the most stubborn anti-Glazer United fan would have to admit they were wrong.

They have, afterall, just turned their back on £54m for a single player, and instead offered him a massive new contract worth over £30m over 5 years not including bonuses and it's rumoured that to secure the deal United have had to pay him the difference in amount between his current wage and his old one since he's been at United, to make it as if he's always been on the current contract.

Well, it seems footballers do enjoy the odd gangbang...I'm not sure why, they're rich and famous so you'd think they could get a girl to themselves...so she probably got her wish.

David Dein is out due to irreconcilable differences? What the hell is going on? Link.
Arsenal Holdings plc - Directorate change

Arsenal Holdings plc (the "Company") announces that David Dein has left Arsenal Football Club and has ceased to be a director of the Company.

Peter Hill-Wood, Chairman of the Company, would like to express his gratitude for the many years of loyal service given by David Dein to Arsenal Football Club and regrets that irreconcilable differences between Mr. Dein and the rest of the board have necessitated a parting of the ways.

In light of recent speculation as to the ownership of the Company, the remaining Board members (together, the owners of 45.45% of the issued share capital of the Company) would like to reassure the shareholders, employees and fans of Arsenal Football Club that they remain long-term holders of their interests in the Company.

To this effect, they have entered into an agreement not to dispose of their interests in the Company for at least one year and have confirmed that they intend to retain their interests on the expiration of this period.

nothing but a guess of course, but considering the article I posted a bit earlier I can only assume that Dein wanted a foreign takeover.

Anyway, I hate this.

I have no idea who the rest of the board is, but David Dein has always struck me as something of a boardroom thug.

I also couldn't understand how he could work for the FA and Arsenal, that sort of thing shouldn't be allowed.

Yup, that's what the early speculation is saying. Dein wanted to sell so the rest of the board booted him.
Anyway, I hate this.
Me too. Internal conflict is not good at the moment. Plus wasn't Dein the one that spearheaded bringing Wenger in?

Why are Arsenal and its fans so adamant on not having a takeover? It's happened to all the big clubs, it's inevitable.

he's one of the main shareholders btw

£61.69m

The amount David Dein could bank from his 9,072 shares (14.5%)

I wouldn't be suprised if we saw these shares move too.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't think it's necessary. And a takeover just for the sake of it would piss me off.
