My girlfriend and my mother are frightened about not seeing the sun in England.

:lol He makes them sound like people from some tribe cut off from civilisation, terrified of the eclipse as the sun god is eaten.

The weather over here is killing me. We get one day of sunshine for every 30 days of rain.

I don't know what England he's been in recently, but I can't remember when it last rained. In fact, I've been shocked by the amount of sunny days, normally April is terrible.

I'm not saying it's Madrid or anything, but it really hasn't rained much at all recently, it hasn't even been overcast.

Some of the players coming into the Premiership from other leagues really are so arrogant. It's never their fault, it's the league or the weather. The Premiership isn't "proper" football because you're not given time to do your tricks.

How do these guys explain Bergkamp, Zola, Cantona, Juninho etc. then?

yeah, he's talking out of his arse, the weather was really nice lately. England is really not too bad.

Scotland is another story though. When I first came there in 2002 I didn't see the sun in over 3 months, true story. When I got of the plane in Glasgow in January the sun was shining, the next time was in mid April. Not that it mattered much, because it got light at half past nine and dark and 4 again.

Deins exit has caused talk about wenger leaving, but hill-wood has said that it isnt happening. I cant see him leaving and i certainly cant see him being sacked. He's like sir alex in the sense that he's done too much for the club to be sacked. There is a possability that he'll leaave. If Capello leaves madrid then he'd be the perfect man get real to what they used to be, but I cant see him leaving arsenal out of choice. Why would he leave when he's been constructing a team for the future? The way i see it, Dein leaving wont change much at arsenal.

Unless the Glazers sell a big player this summer, I think it's safe to say they are indeed here to run a football club well and not just make some money quickly. And perhaps the only player big enough and young enough to bring in a good amount of money, enough to actually remove a large chunk of debt, would be Rooney. Other than Ronaldo of course, but that situation's already sorted.

I don't expect that at all, I just think that if this summer passes by without a big player being sold, even the most stubborn anti-Glazer United fan would have to admit they were wrong.

They have, afterall, just turned their back on £54m for a single player, and instead offered him a massive new contract worth over £30m over 5 years not including bonuses and it's rumoured that to secure the deal United have had to pay him the difference in amount between his current wage and his old one since he's been at United, to make it as if he's always been on the current contract.
Wow, I didnt know that about ronaldo's contract. Thats one ****ing good deal for ronaldo.

The glazers wont sell rooney to remove part of the debt. He signed a contract not too long ago thats runs until 2012, so that goes to show that they want to keep him. Speaking of players United will, there's a rumour that saha could be going because of the injury problems. If it does happen I cant blame fergie for doing it. Saha's a very good player, but he's keeps getting injured. I wouldnt mid selling him; we can get some money out of him and possibly buy a top class striker. Tevez would be a good buy, but the problem with him is that he's a lot like rooney. What do people think of bent. He's scored in a season where he's been injred for a while. He managed to score over 20 last season. I reckon he'd be ace at a big club. If charlton do go down, then he'll definately leave and we could end upo getting him for a reasonable price.

Those are brilliant goals, especially weah's. I heard he was ****ing amazing, but I never got the chance to watch him play.

I think Bent's very much like Saha. Big scorer at a lower club, scores with both feet, pacey, not massively tall but good in the air...it'd be a good signing, so long as he didn't cost too much.

Given Bent's age (just become 23) compared to Saha's (coming up to 29), if you could sell Saha for 2/3 of the fee you could get Bent for, I'd say that's a good deal.

Haven't heard anything linking Bent to United though. I did read a rumour about Cristiano Lucarelli joining though from Livorno.

He certainly wants to leave Livorno and there's no doubt he's a good striker. Here are the top scorers in Serie A the past 3 seasons:

06/07

19 Totti
17 Lucarelli
17 Bianchi
16 Toni
15 Ibrahimovic

05/06

31 Toni
23 Trezeguet
22 Suazo
19 Lucarelli
19 Tavano
19 Shevchenko
17 Gilardino

04/05

24 Gilardino
23 Lucarelli
21 Montella
19 Vucinic
19 Toni

So he's consistently scored. The problem is he's 31, and he'll be 32 only a couple of months into next season. As a striker that probably only gives him another couple of years at the most of high quality football, unless he turns out to be one of those freaks like Henrik Larsson.

That's still fine if he's only going to cost a couple of million, but the rumour I read said £6m. I can't imagine Ferguson spending £6m on any player over 30, he didn't even want Ballack on a free when he was only almost 30.

Its too much for some who is that old. If we could get him for a bit less, then he's going to be a good buy, but for how much longer is he going to play as well as he has in the last few seasons? Id rather get bent. He's a good player already and he;s still got his best years ahead of him. The one problem is the price. Pardrew said he could go for £18 million before he changed his mind about it. If Charlton get releagted then they will end up selling him, but for how much less? £12 million is probably the lowest we can get him for. If they dont get relegated then they will probably ask for £18 million like they did before. Bent is good but not that good. We might have to be forced into buying him for a high price. Saha's fitness is a major concern, so getting another striker is ideal. Smith isnt good enough to start, solskjaer is too old and although rossi has been doing very well at parma, I still think that he needs to be put on loan, so we do need another striker. Outside of england there isnt much that you can buy. the world class strikers cost too much and the ones with potential will be risky buys because they might not be able to adjust to english football.

You almost certainly won't know this guy, Scott Sinclair, but he's a Chelsea youngster on loan to Plymouth. This was in the FA Cup, which is the only reason I've seen it, but I still think it's one of the best goals I've seen.

Either just watch the goals of the month through or skip to 3:58 for the goal I'm referring to.

In fact, just watch this top 10 of Matt "Best Player Never To Make It Anywhere" Le Tissier.

I really think he could have played for any team in the world...but I suppose I admire him for sticking with Southampton for life. Loyalty, if not ambition.

EDIT: Just read, he apparently turned down an offer from AC Milan at one point.

I was going to post Le Tissiers goals, but you beat me to it. That guy was amazing, he's scored goals that maradona would be proud of. He had some impressive statistics. In 540 games he scored 209 goals and he scored 48 out of 49 penalties. On one hand I admire a player for being loyal to their club, but at the same time I think that if you're good enough to be win plenty of silverware at a big club, you should go and take your chance.

Talking about le tissier has made me think about who is the most liked players in the history of the premiership. There's lots of players that were loved by their clubs, but hated by everyone else. There are only a few players who are generally loved by everyone. Im thinking of the players who are not just loved because of their skill, but because of the type of person that they are. Le Tissier is one of them. Along with him I'd add solskjaer, giggs, scholes, zola and bergkamp. Out of those lot id have to pick either solskjaer or Bergkamp. I dont think there is a single football fan who dislikes solskjaer, not even the scousers. Bergkamp is the same too. I dont know what the tottenham fans thought about him, but its difficult to hate bergkamp.

I think Solskaer is the only Man Utd player I like (not as in how they play, coz each of the Man Utd players are good footballers obviously), because he's so harmless. Like a little squirrel.

Why are you laughing...its not funny...given the state of things italy seemed like the obvious choice. World cup winners, shaken from match-fixings needing a boost etc.. Its okay though 2012 is in long time we have 2010 to look forward to first ^o^.

Wow. Guess the Beckham move is working out for MLS so far....

Bloomberg News said:
Beckham Sparks $13.3 Million in Sales for Galaxy, Covers Salary

By Curtis Eichelberger

April 19 (Bloomberg) -- David Beckham already has brought Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy an additional $13.3 million in revenue, more than enough to cover his salary for two years.

Beckham, who won't play until July, signed a five-year contract with the Galaxy in January that will pay him an MLS- record base salary of $5.5 million annually and might be worth as much as $250 million with his cut from jersey sales, endorsements and sponsorships.

``We've already made our money back,'' said Tim Leiweke, 49, chief executive officer of Anschutz Entertainment Group, the Los Angeles-based company that owns the Galaxy. ``We were never worried about our financial commitment.''

Article continues...

More about it via the link.

Highlights:
- 7,000 additional season tickets = $4.9 million in new revenue
- Total ticket revenue doubles to $10 million for the season
- $20 million for a five year jersey endorsement deal
- Tripled sponsorship sales to about $10 million
- ESPN is estimating the television audience will increase 25-50%

Just remains to be seen how much of this audience (in the stadium and on tv) that they can maintain over future seasons.

It is, but i can't help think a lot of players are ****s for being so focused on the money side of the game.

If you have been given an opportunity by a big club, trained by them, well paid, enjoying playing for the team and the fans...then it should come down to massive money deals to keep you there. Some of the Chelsea players have been right moany ****s about the whole issue of wages and I think the whole situation is just getting ridiculous in football.

There is a case for a maximum wage/payment cap. Then the best players will get the same salaries wherever they play and it will be back to deciding which place you'd enjoy being at best.

Le Tissier was such an amazing player. He could have achieved much more though, it's a shame.

edit: uuh at the savage picture. For some reason it looks to me like he's wearing a diaper. Of course, some people would pay money to see that.

Id be happy to see salary caps. Thy're getting out of control. Beckhams contract is just stupid. We wont see more contracts like that, but I wouldnt be surprised to see someone get paid 200 000 pounds + at a european club.

It would be interesting to see how players would react if there was a salary cap that meant that the highest they could earn was 5,000 pounds a week. Knowing football players today, they would probably go and protest by doing something like not coming out of the dressing room to play. Its not good enough for them that they get to be heroes to thousands of children and win trophies.

I would love to see the reaction ... the quality of play would prolly suffer from all the protests...Just like Baseball it's too late to have a salary cap in football... sadly

a salary cap would be great, I've been talking about it for years. It's probably too difficult to legislate though, since it would have to be binding for all leagues.
