too much hastle, I will gain those points back in no time. Or maybe not, but I'm such a lazy c*nt.

edit: 1000th post, will we ever get a sticky? I doubt it.

Saturday, 26 August 2006

Charlton v Bolton
Liverpool v West Ham
Man City v Arsenal

Sunday, 27 August 2006

Aston Villa v Newcastle

Don't the game weeks run from just before the Saturday matches to just before the Saturday matches?

Maybe you're right mama smurf, but there are games on during the middle of the week and the fantasy football on premierleague.com count the games that are on mid-week as a seperate gameweek.

I've switched to a 3-4-3. Shaking up my forwards, as 11 points total from the 3 is unacceptable.

Anyone know of a good site for viewing an injury table for the Prem?

This is from the rules:

The contest is divided into weekly periods that begin each Saturday morning at 10:59 a.m. and conclude the following Friday. The deadline to make lineup changes for the upcoming week is 10:59 a.m. GMT each Saturday.

That's why I kept Ballack even though I knew he wouldn't face City, becuase there's a decent chance he'll be alright for the midweek game, which I wouldn't have been able to change before.

So I think any changes you're makign now won't come into effect until the weekend.

It also means you can change your team depending on who has more games coming up that week, if you really want to put that much effort in.

Another question...what happens when goals are changed? For example, Andy Johnson has points for scoring against Watford this weekend. However, his shot was a complete mishit and was going to hit the corner flag before it hit a Watford player and went in. I'd be surprised if it wasn't changed to an own goal...so would yahoo change his score retroactively?

ok heres the tv situation in usa for this season as best as i can figure right now.

epl: fox soccer channel will show 3 games on saturday starting at 9 am cdt. 2 live and 1 on tape delay. also a live game on sunday, usuall the game of the week.
setanta sports will show 4 games starting at 6:30 am cdt, including plenty of big 4 games. in fact they will show every liverpool game until almost november. right now the only way to get setanta is with directv but there are rumors dish will add it in the next few weeks. it costs $15/month.

serie a: same as last year, big team home games on goltv, lazio and cagliari home games on fsc

la liga: same as last year with most games on goltv. also one game a week (i think, it may be 2 a week) in hd on worldsport hd via dish network. usually its real or barca.

bundesliga: all on goltv. they showed like 6 games this weekend but this will decrease once serie a starts back up.

ligue 1, spl: all on setanta

Just to add:

Copa Sudamericana (starts this week); Fox Sports in Español has the exclusive.

Gallas plus cash for Cole would be such an awesome deal. Then you could put him at left back so I could laugh my ass off.

Wait a minute....that would **** up my fantasy football team....bad deal, Gallas is past it, Cole for cash only.

:lol :lol :lol

Yeah they do, Psycho's brain must not have adjusted to the lack of oxygen so high up the league.

:lol I plan to catch the United/Charlton game at the bar on Wednesday (wearing my shiney new Henry jersey...woohoo!), and I'm sure they'll be as arrogant as they were back when they were a great team instead of just a good one. Still, hard to see anything wrong with Sunday's effort.

Henry reckons he's not even 60% fit yet, saying it'll take four or five games to get back to where he needs to be.

Bayern and being bastards and have threatened to report man utd to fifa if they dont stop stop attempting to sign hargreaves. It seems like its almost impossible to sign him, which is a shame, but its not a massive blow, I think we can still cope with the players we have at the moment.

Just as it looked like martins would be heading to newcastle, redknapp has made a last minute bid for martins. Martins should move to newcastle for his own good, newcastle have a much better chance of being a successful club than pompey do, even though redknapp has been given a lot of money to spend.

Bayern should have reported Man U to fifa last week, everyone from here to germany knows they've tapped him up.

If Arsenal get cash + Gallas for Cashley thats the worst deal ever made in the premiership imo (from the Chelsea perspective of course).

I'd be surprised if we get much less than 12 - 15 million plus Galas for Cole

Champions League action today! 2nd leg of the final qualifying round (today and tomorrow) before the group stage.

Maccabi Haifa 1-1 Liverpool
Liverpool advance 3-2 aggregate

Osasuna 1-1 Hamburg SV
Hamburg advance 1-1 aggregate (away goals)

Crvena Zvezda 1-2 AC Milan
AC Milan advance 3-1 aggregate

Benfica 3-0 Austria Vienna
Benfica advance 4-1 aggregate

Valencia 2-0 SV Salzburg
Valencia advance 2-1 aggregate

Liverpool fans- Good news is you advanced to group stage, bad news is Sissoko was taken off field in stretcher during the game.

Yeah, you can see how important Sissoko is by the way Haifa had so much more of the midfield after he went off. Turning into a bit of an injury crisis now :(

Heh, man...looks like it's gonna be one of those years for the Reds.

Personally I'd be just fine with Gallas plus 5 mill. I know Dien will think that's a major loss considering what they want for Cole, but at some point you gotta make do with what you have and get on with business. At the end of the day they'd have a world class centerback in Gallas who'd fit right in with the Gunners, a bit of extra cash, and be free of the Cashley distraction. Problem of course is that I'm sure Wenger would want to use Gallas at left or right back, which seems to be his main beef with Chelsea. Would he be more willing to do that under a French coach? I wouldn't know.

Walcott will be available in the second leg of their qualifier tomorrow. He missed out on being the youngest World Cup debutant ever, but maybe he'll be able to grab that record for European club competition, heh.

Juventus actually bought a player today...Jean-Alain Boumsong from Newcastle for 3.4 million pounds. Interesting move on his part. And Middlesborough insist that Downing isn't for sale, with Spurs supposedly looking to make another push at grabbing him.

dam....i put Lennon and Berbatov in my team, but for next week :(

atleast i got them before their prices went up...made some whole sale changes to my team for Week 2 despite doing well on the weekend, changed to a 3-4-3 as well as selling Robben and Carragher

its more a balanced team now instead of relying on a few key "expensive players", i bought some more reasonable players who still score points

still not sure if Ballack and Rosicky will play so i decided to leave them out since they wont be at full fitness anyway

I was just changing the chanel, stopped on ESPN Brasil.

I caught a replay of the semifinal match for the asia qualifier for the world cup.

Iran-Bahrain, 2-7.

Did I mention it was beach soccer?

:lol

Apparently, the beach soccer world cup is this year, and there are 3 spots for asian teams.

Raaaandom

Also:

Players may be dismissed and consequently receive a red card for the following infringements:
1. Receiving two bookings during the same match;
2. Throwing sand at anyone;
3. Denying an opponent moving towards the player's goal an opportunity to score by committing a foul punishable by a direct free kick or a penalty kick.

Ok Im a little confused about fantasy football. Beofre last nights games I made some changes to my team. Do those changes actually count or do I only get points from the players who I had in my original team?

We're still in Week 1 now, any changes you make will apply when week 2 starts (Saturday).

Excuse me while i bask in the glory of West Ham being top of the league for 24 hours :ahhhh

We got lucky last night to get a draw at watford apparently, we played 3-5-2 though which confuses me, partly because he left Yossi on the bench, but mainly because he didnt change the system for anyone last season but decided to for Watford two games in? I think Alans first season in the premiership might have him thinking he's a tactical genius or something. BACK TO WHAT WE KNOW PLEASE.

And Sunderland, who got whooped by Bath, the Football Leagues Bottom side last night, apparently want to appoint Alan Curbishley as manager this weekend. I think that'd be a mistake for Alan, if he just waits it out he'll get a premiership job easy, though maybe he see's sunderland as a good challenge, they certainly have the backing and the support to be a massive club.

Bath is in the football league?

There's a lot of rumours going around that we're going to buy Lucas Neill (and sell Kronkamp). Bloody hell. I gyuess the only positive is that if he's on our team he won't be able to break any of our players' legs.

I hope that deal comes through, so PSV can buy Kromkamp. We're in dire need of a decent rightback, and if Kromkamp can up his performance to pre-Villareal/Liverpool level, he'll surely be a addition to our squad.

Also, Ooijer is finally gone, his transfer to Blackburn is almost completed. Same goes for Vennegoor, although he still has to come to a personal agreement with Celtic.

I really have screwed myself. I have 2 Newcastle, 1 Arsenal and 3 Liverpool players. So no midweek points for me. :/ All I have is 1 Charlton, 1 Reading, 1 Bolton and 2 Man U players potentially playing tonight.

Finnan's probably the best right back in the league. Aside from his disciplinary record, Neill is a great player, but I don't see why he'd go to Liverpool to sit on the bench. He'd be able to take over from Finnan eventually, but at 30 the latter probably still has 2 or 3 years left in him, and by then Neill would be 30/31 himself.

Hargreaves is having a press conference to say he wants to leave Bayern for United. He seems desperate to move, reports in germany suggest that he has already been fined because he has kept insisting on it, yet he is still going to have this oress conference. I can understand bayern not wanting to let him go, but at the same time they should understand that he has been playing for bayern his whole career and he probably feels its time for a change to progress hois career.

I'm wondering about this too. I have Henry, who's great, but so expensive. After him (and Rooney), there's a massive drop in price of strikers, many of whom are still great, and if I sold Henry and got one of them, I'd have an extra £9-10m to play with elsewhere.

I don't know what to dooooooo.

He's a dumbass that just signed a 4-year extension this past year. Gets a ton of shit hate from England before the WC, has a bit of success, and now it's all "I love England, I want to go to ManU, blah blah blah".

I hope Bayern Munich get monstrously compensated when (not "if") they unload him.

Mourinho whining some more (is that all the guy does?), this time on Champions League seedings: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=376840&cc=5901

Mourinho said: 'It is the best competition in the world but you don't see the best clubs in the semi-finals.

'For me the competition is not correct and you are in a lucky situation if the best team in Europe wins the competition.

'Compare the semi-finals with the earlier rounds, the last eight or last 16. Compare Arsenal against Villarreal with Arsenal against Juventus, Chelsea against Barcelona or Milan against Bayern Munich. It does not compare.

'Liverpool were champions and over 30 points behind Chelsea in the league, not even in the top four in the Premiership. Arsenal got through to the final but the best they could do [in the league] was fourth.'

Mourinho is chasing his third successive Premiership title with Chelsea this season and the club's first Champions League trophy.

He finds it hard to prefer one above the other but believes he is fighting an uphill battle in Europe because of the coefficient system.

Mourinho said: 'The Premier League is an even competition. The Champions League is not.

'When you decide there is a head of the group, they start in front of the others.

'They are ahead of the group and there are a lot of advantages. If you are second there are a lot of disadvantages. You don't start from zero.

'To win the Champions League when you are not head of the group is a big, big achievement.'

Best clubs not in the semifinals? Sounds to me like they're not the best clubs then. "The Premier League is an even competition. The Champions League is not." Righto. :lol

So what do you propose then? We just hand the trophy to the team who finished 1st in the league with the highest coefficient? It just seems to me he'd prefer not having to play any games at all.

I'd be top if I didn't have ballack and heinze trouble :/ Pondering what to do with those 2 atm. Don't want to change to someone crappy because i'll never get the price back. Might change Heinze and keep ballack for now. Still it was dumb of me to have them for the first week.

Well, Mourinho's right in a way. It's true that in the CL you don't necessarily get the best sides in the semi-finals...but despite the name, it's a cup competition. That's always been the way of cup competitions. It's not something to complain about though, it's just what it is. It's what differentiates it from league competitions.

He's obviously bitter but he does have a point (to some extent), the coefficient system is a joke, the whole concept of a Champions League featuring the top FOUR teams from the leagues is a joke too.

Its set up, like all european competitions these days, around getting the best deal for the old boys, the ACs & Reals of the footballing world who think its UEFAs fault if they arent in the top competition.

Id reckon bayern would get around £17 million, thats what is being reported anyway.

If I was in Bayern's position and felt I had to sell Hargreaves, I damn well wouldn't let United buy him for less than they paid for Carrick. Hargreaves is ahead of him in the England team and has much longer left on his contract, unlike Carrick who Spurs had to sell or he might have left for free (or at least cheaper) soon. Given that he went for £14m to rise to £18.6m, I'd demand £16m to rise to £20m in Bayern's shoes.

Blackburn have signed Ooijer! Awesome, I don't know if he's goign to partner Nelsen in central defence when everyone's fit or if he's going to go to right back so Neill can go, but it seems like he'll be first team.

Now someone tell me how to pronounce his name so I can tell people in person and not just on the internet.

Reyes's agent says that Atletico now want to buy him.

Please let him go, the sooner the better. It's time for him to move on, he obviously does not want to stay.

I shall ask my girlfriend, she's dutch.

edit:

according to her it's a long o (not as in look for instance), so basically ooyar.

that's the dutch for you, what a language.

Wow, second game of the season and United still looks so strong. I can't believe how well we've been playing. The passing. The movement. OMG! Feels like the 90s alll over again....

**** YES! Man Utd won and Chelski lost. Sorry Ghost, west hams time at the top of the table is over.

Man Utd beat charlton 3-0. In all fairness we were a bit lucky. Charlton should have had atleast a penalty awarded to them because wes brown blatantly handballed it, but the refs view was obstructed because wes brown was surrounded. Our first half wasnt that good, but we were unlucky, we hit the woodwork twice in the first half. We scored early on in the second half thanks to fletcher. Now as much as I dont like seeing him play, I can sometimes see why fergie has faith in him, he took his goal very well and he worked hard all game. Saha and solskjaer scored late in the game. We deserve a lot of credit for that win. Even without rooney and scholes we played good attacking football. We've not played this good since our success in the 90's.

In other news, keane has been named the new manager of sunderland!
