Man, the embarassment that will be felt if England fails to win this game will be off the charts. But I think they'll come good. I hope Owen is able to pot a couple...that would be massive for both himself and England's qualifying fortunes. I'll be wearing his jersey tomorrow in support.

I've seen the media rip Sven apart at the world cup but this will be something else if we so much as get a draw. :O

Yeah. Remember that Russian guy who got poisoned last year? He attended a game at the Emirates. I don't think he was poisoned there, but he had enough of that shit on him that he left traces of it there.

arseblogger reckons we're very interested in buying Malouda (as per his sources, who should be at least as reliable as some newspaper:

God that makes me so angry, its a perfect example of how much the Mail sucks, Benayoun signed a new deal LAST MONTH.

25/05/2007 14:01
West Ham United can today announce that much sought-after midfielder Yossi Benayoun has agreed a new five-year deal to keep him at Upton Park until 2012.

"I'm very pleased to have agreed this new deal," said the Israel international. "From the first moment I arrived at West Ham, the Club felt like home to me. We have the best supporters in England.

"The natural thing for me was to sign a new deal and I'm very happy because I want to stay at this Club. I'm sure we'll have a better season next season because we have players with a lot of quality. "

Oooh look, a 5 year deal.

I mean, if you're gonna make shit up, at least make it so it could actually be true.

:lol

here's an example of a newspaper actually making sense (unheard of). Ironically, it is the daily mail:

a summer ritual as constant as Cowes or Royal Ascot…This annual tedium has to be set against the countless epiphanies Henry has lavished on us since Arsenal rescued his stalled career. It’s part of the annual package for him to undergo existential angst when the sun comes out and for the rest of us to have to read about it for two months ---------------

-------------A personal suspicion is that the Arsenal board have found it too easy to hide behind the talent-spotting genius of their manager. Which brings us to a point that Henry would be wise to keep in mind. He won’t find a cleverer or more understanding boss than Arsene Wenger.

Now, last night I got a piece of transfer news which I saw late last night on ANR (who really need to do something about their hosting as the site is down again. If we can't get Ribery, I can't think of a better alternative. And he'd probably be a bit cheaper.

That said I think Ribery would be more of a statement signing, both to Henry and the rest of the footballing world that we mean business. So while I think Malouda might be a slightly better fit, I'd probably prefer the Ribery signing.

But either way, we've gotta get one of 'em.

I'm undecided, I think they are both slightly overrated. Especially in Ribery's case, he is very good, don't get me wrong - but I don't think he is quite the player people think he is.

He is definitely not going to be the player that will get us 10 to 15 goals from midfield (his goal average is under 5 per season actually), and he is infact very similar to Hleb in some ways. Is he better than Hleb? 17 million are a heavy price to pay to find out. I would have said yes at 10 or 12 million, but 17 is far too much I think.

Like you I think that Malouda would be a better fit, he also scores more goals than Ribery (average over 7 per season). If we can get a reasonable price he would be a good signing, but again over 12 million is too much.

I'd like us to consider Saviola though. He can play on the wing, is available on a free, scores more goals than the other 2 put together and would fit us quite well I think.

Either would be a nice addition, but I also do agree that both are a bit overrated. Do either of them have EPL experience? I don't think so.

But like I said, either one of them would definitely help the squad out. They are fairly big names and although I said they might be overrated, that doesn't mean they aren't excellent footballers.

I'd be happy if they came, don't get me wrong. But the price has to be ok. You don't want to overspend on players that are a bit on the risky side. Then again, there's no guarantees with any players, of course.

Should we be able to get Saviola, he would be a great addition I think. A lineup like this:

---------------------- Lehmann ----------------------

Hoyte ----------Toure ------ Gallas --------- Clichy

------ Fabregas ----- Gilberto ------ Rosicky ------

-- Van Persie ----------------------------- Saviola --

------------------------ Henry ------------------------

would be quite something, I would think.

Man that looks like a pretty lineup. We would have had something very similar this season had Henry and RVP not gotten hurt ;x

hadareud, you should watch this: http://www.footytube.com/2007/06/04/arsenal-0607/

I'm not even sure we need another forward. We could use Adebayor up front. He's strong, and a decent finisher. He played without Henry and RVP for half of the season and I was very impressed by him. I almost got him on my 06/07 jersey haha :D

thanks for the video h0pper, good stuff

well, a back up is probably needed - not quality wise, but what happens if Henry and Van Persie should be insured again? Adebayor and Bendtner alone are not enough.

Saviola would be ideal, since he is a natural striker that can play on the wing. So he'd be a back up at the same time.

I have changed my mind on Freddie btw, I think he should stay another season. We all know that he doesn't quite have the pace anymore to go past defenders on a regular basis. But I think he will be a great depth player, that can come on at any time and be dangerous. But I don't think he is quite good enough as a regular starter anymore.

Saviola on can play on the wing in 4-3-3 perhaps in 4-4-2 are you sure, hows his crossing ?
Isn't he a bit small for the premiership, on the other hand he is quite aggressive.

I agree about Ribery being over rated especially end product wise in my eyes but he is a nice player I think there is better out there especially considering the money. I have not seen Malouda often play so I will refrain from commenting.

We have been linked to a number of players Curtis Davies, Nigel Reo-Coker, Saviola, Tuncay Sanli, klose, Babel, Torres Alves, Quaresma etc ... All of them play in different areas so I guess it depends on whre Arsene wants to strenghtn My suggestion would be on the wings, a young central play maker and take a long hard look at Senderos I think he can make it though.

the games I've seen him on the wing he did alright, I think he could do quite well for us, but I'm not sure if he could play left midfield in a 4-4-2.

His size is an issue, especially since the rest of our midfield is not too tall either (Hleb, Rosicky, Fabregas, Ljungberg, Walcott, Denilson are all small players). I think on a free we can't do much wrong though.

Centrally I don't think we need to add any new players. Rosicky can play in Cesc's role should he be injured or fatigued and I think Fran Merida could get a few games in the playmaker role next year too (unless we loan him out to Atletico).

I agree with Senderos, I don't think he has the required quality.

Did you guys not like my stolen characters? :( I know not many people speak zombie, but i hoped someone here would understand him.

Benayoun snub denied

Yossi Benayoun's agent has denied that his client has rejected West Ham's offer of a new contract, but confirmed the deal is unsigned.

Benayoun agreed a new five-year deal with The Hammers last month, but the deal actually remains unsigned.

Reports in the English media have now suggested that the rumoured £50,000-per-week deal has been snubbed by the Israeli - as he would instead like to move to a 'top-four' side.

However, speaking to skysports.com, Benayoun's representative Ronen Katzav has denied that there is an ulterior-motive behind the delay in him putting pen-to-paper.

"He has not rejected the contract," Katzav told skysports.com.

"He still plans to sign the contract, but there has been such much happening with his new baby and him being on international duty."

Katzev did admit that whilst the new deal remains unsigned, it was natural that speculation would continue.

"Obviously in football you never know, and whilst it is unsigned there is always a chance of something else," he said.

"But the deal is agreed and we intend to sign it."

Some guy on the internet said that the Bakri Sagna and Nasri deals are almost done. Malouda is possible, but not quite there yet. French radio reporting that the Malouda deal is "80% complete", whatever that means. This is probably all bullsh*t, but I'm bored this morning.

See, this is what happens when there isn't much news - I just start pulling information from a guy that knows a guy who heard on the radio, blah-blah-blah. While I'm at it, are there any other French players that I can link?

Ok, let's try, if we draw again, you get Bramble (a quick change of mind and goes to Arsenal, ala Hamann @ Bolton to Man City), we get Francis Jeffers.

3..2..1..

I was scrambling around trying to catch a spider that was in my room last night, in the dark (well, just the glow from the pc), caught it, triumphant, rushed to throw it out and walked into my door. My knee still hurts.

What is that, a hornet? I don't like anything like that because I've never been stung so have no idea if I'm allergic.

Do you think Wenger's planning to turn Eboue into a right winger? 'cos he and Hoyte signed new deals recently, didn't they? So it doens't seem like he's getting rid of either.

good job on the updating Lakitu

yeah it's a hornet, nearly 2 inches long. I have never seen anything like it before, it was unreal.

My mother nearly died from a wasp sting once, so I don't feel the urge of finding out if I'm allergic or not.

Don't forget that Arsenal supposedly signed Icelandic striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, as well.

Sorry, I could resist posting another picture of him. He's actually 17, but he looks like he's 12 in that picture.

Scott Parker deal has been confirmed on SSN (although we already knew this).

Guess that means Reo-Coker is on his way to the mighty Villa now then :)

That's the buzz online - it makes a bit of sense given Eboue's speed and ability getting forward along with his lack of defensive positioning/skill.

good point actually, I could see him do that. His defensive deficiencies are apparent and he's offensively sound, so why not?

I can't believe I didn't think about that.

Don't feel too bad, you were probably too busy running away screaming from the hornet.

Short piece about Angel in the NYT:
NY Times said:
Red Bulls Import a Little Excellence
By JACK BELL

Gone are the shoulder-length hair and the wide headband, and the disdain for the generally miserable weather of the English midlands.

What has not deserted Juan Pablo Ángel is his assemblage of wonderful skills with the soccer ball, born of hours of practice in his native Colombia, honed in the hardscrabble top league of Argentina, and finely tuned the past seven seasons in perhaps the best and most competitive circuit in the world, the English Premier League.

Now Ángel, 31, is in Major League Soccer, a designated player of distinction only four games into his tenure with the Red Bulls. He is the most lethal goal scorer the New York/New Jersey area has seen since Giorgio Chinaglia of the Cosmos made Giants Stadium his predator’s paradise in the late 1970s and early ’80s.

Ángel scored a masterly goal in a 3-0 victory against Chicago on May 24. As a cross rolled into the penalty area from the right side, he shielded the ball from Chris Armas, let it roll between his legs, then quickly turned and fired a shot past goalkeeper Matt Pickens for his second goal of the game.

Ángel, who last week was named the league’s top player in May after scoring four goals and two assists since joining the club from Aston Villa, has also seemed to make his teammates better with his skillful control, positioning, deft passing and high soccer I.Q. That has made the Red Bulls, who play at Toronto F.C. tonight, a serious challenger for the league title for the first time in the club’s often-feeble history.

“Honestly, I did not expect the league to be so good,” Ángel said in a telephone interview yesterday before the Red Bulls (5-2-2, 17 points) left for Canada. “This is a very tough league to play in. It’s physical. It’s fast. And it looks like the teams are pretty even, which makes it more competitive because in Europe most leagues only have a few top teams.”

Ángel is one of the Red Bulls’ two designated players (Claudio Reyna is the other) in a system, put in by the league this season, that allows teams to sign up to two players and pay them more than the team’s modest budget of about $2 million for all players. The league will pay the first $400,000 of a designated player’s salary; the club must pay the rest.

While most of the attention, media hype and marketing mania have focused on David Beckham’s impending arrival in Los Angeles, players like Ángel; the Brazilian Luciano Emilio at D.C. United; and two Argentines, Guillermo Schelotto in Columbus and Carlos Marinelli with Kansas City, are having an impact.

Although the Galaxy will pay Beckham $5.5 million a year in large part because of his name and marketability, the Red Bulls are paying Ángel $1.5 million to score goals (he signed for this season and two more). He has come into the league and raised the level of play, while also giving fans a glimpse of the influence highly skilled players can have on their teammates.

If Ángel has had a problem, it has been the general lack of support from the area’s large Colombian population. The Red Bulls have averaged only 9,765 fans, second worst in the league, for home games at Giants Stadium.

“I have been surprised that there are not the people in the stadium,” Ángel said. “I’m not used to that. But for me, it’s no good to have the designative player name and not do the business on the field. As a veteran, I’m here to show the younger players that they have to perform day in and day out, and prepare for every single match. It’s all about surviving in a competitive league.”

Those hornets are creepy, they make a really deep buzzing sound and from a distance it looks like they just buzz around lights (like moths) except when you get closer the ****ers decide they'd rather dive bomb you instead.
