Actually only Toni outscored Van Persie last season, on average (in their respective domestic leagues, I can't be bothered looking up goals across all comps, feel free if you can). You can look at earlier numbers if you like, but I wouldn't have taken Van Persie over the others before last year, when he really came into his own. He was held back before then by Bergkamp and Henry.

In a 38 game season, they'd have scored like this:

21.71 Toni
21.43 Van Persie
19.00 Makaay
15.94 Klose
9.50 Podolski

So given his age and that Toni barely outscored him, I'd definitely take Van Persie.

I think that one might be photoshopped, but the event was real. Adidas have Beckham and Reggie Bush (an American Football player) to try each other's sports as part of an ad campaign.
Adidas said:
During Beckham and Bush’s meeting in Madrid, Beckham strapped on a Saints helmet and uniform with his signature number 23 and performed running drills, ran pass routes with Bush defending him and kicked long-range field goals and punts. Bush, meanwhile, laced up his soccer boots and shin pads and defended short-range penalty kicks from Beckham playing goal keeper. Although each athlete looked momentarily uncomfortable in their new sports, they were able to quickly grasp the nuances, such as Beckham spiking the football after a touchdown catch and Bush playing a spirited game of keepy uppy with his knees and feet. Later, the two athletes exchanged jerseys and discussed what Beckham should expect after arriving in the U.S., from fan reaction to media attention.

Just found out the Dutch tv (NOS) will dedicate 30 minutes each day during the copa america to show the highlights of each match. Pretty nice, they've never done that as far as I know.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the PSV players there: Mendez (Equador), Farfan (Peru) and Nguyen (USA). Oh, and of course Alex and Afonso Alves.

Can someone hook me up with all the team's selections? Knowing PSV, they've probably send a dozen scouts to Venezuela. :lol

Everyone should go onto wes's link and take a look at WAG's on holiday. There's a nice picture of the lovely cheryl tweedy.

But mama doesnt need to because he's found a site full of pictures of the WAG's.

I like gifs, so long as they aren't too large.

I dunno how to make 'em, so I might be asking for some Blackburn ones if I can find the youtube clips.

I'm not watching any of the rubbish sounding Copa America games, so none tonight. I'll watch Brazil - Mexico tomorrow and Ardentina - USA on Thursday.

I dont think she had that tatoo when I saw her. if she did have it then I would have noticed because she was wearing such a short skirt that you might as well call it a big belt.

I couldnt stop laughing at the commentator :lol

Yeah, it's awesome. Funniest thing though is that right before de Boer sends the ball to Bergkamp, the commentator (van Gelder) mentions that he has a feeling that we (holland) will go through to the semi-final. Next thing, Bergkamp scores. :lol

Thx for the line-ups Cornballer. Wiki to the rescue. I'll pick some players we should watch out for.

That's Adidas' big plan to unveil Beckham? Oh lord.

Oh and Falch does Nguyen get any time on the PSV squad? I'm a huge fan of Yanks abroad but I had no idea who he was when they unveiled the US Copa America roster.

He played exactly 20 minutes of one match, the year before last year (last year under Hiddink). He's had a long lasting shoulder injury after that (I believe he went to the US to recover). Haven't seen him since.

Dutch media reported a little while ago that Nguyen wanted PSV to loan him out to another (Eredivisie) team. I'd say that's a good plan.

That would be good if he's not getting any playing time. I like it when Americans play in Europe, but I'd rather have them play in the starting 11 of a mid-table team than getting no time at a big club.

Exactly, that way he can come back better and stronger at PSV.

Those Copa America poules are really unbalanced btw:

A = Venezuela, Uruguay, Peru and Bolivia
B = Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Equador (wtf, 3 of those were at last year's WC)
C = Argentina, Columbia, Paraguay and US

Venezuela gets a #1 seed as host, so they get the cakewalk. US and Mexico get low seeds as invitees, and everything is a bit screwy.

Btw, well played with the GIF on the BJ thread, Osorio. :lol

I see. Kind of weird anyway, that in a group of 4 teams, 3 can advance to the next round. That means a team could technically advance with only 1 point out of 3 matches.:lol

I much prefer a 16-team tournament with only the 1st and 2nd place teams advancing, but they do what they can with 12.

PS: I don't think you could advance with 1 pt because you can't take 3rd place with 1pt. (That'd mean 4th place has zero points which means you beat them, and thus have at least 3pts.) But your point is well taken - some teams with crappy results always sneak through to the next round in this system.

I really didn't care what he had to say until he mentioned he saw the US-Mexico game. So I had to put my 2 cents in and the GIF :D

On to the teams:

A
Venezuela: I don't know the first thing about this team. Only one player plays in Europe. Will have to fight with Bolivia over the third place, to try and qualify for the next round.
Uruguay: A traditionally strong team, missed the last WC after a defeat against Hiddink's Australia. I still remember that match, it was broadcast live on Dutch tv. Look out for Fenerbahce defender Diego Lugano and ofcourse Diego Forlan. I heard Recoba already managed to get himself injured (again, and again etc). :lol
Peru: With just a few players not playing in the Peruvian league, Peru has an exceptionally strong squad. Their starplayers are strikers Jefferson Farfan (PSV) and Claudio Pizarro (Chelsea)
Bolivia: Not a clue about their players. Only Pena is nowhat famous, as he plays for Villarreal. Will fight for third place with Venezuela.

B
Brazil: Even without starplayers like Ronaldinho and Kaka, they're favorites to win it. Some of the not so well known players like Afonso Alves (Heerenveen), Mineiro (Hertha Berlin), Elano (Shaktar Donetsk), Alex Silva (Santos), Kléber (Santos) and Josué (Sao Paulo) are bound to make an impact, if Dunga lets them. Man United fans will be watching Anderson with particular interest (who is the second youngest player at the Copa America).
Chile: Are extremely unlucky to be in this group. Will challenge Ecuador for the third place.
Mexico: A strong team, with youngsters like Guardado and Castillo (and second keeper Ochoa) combined with a lot of experience. Marquez (Barca) is their absolute starplayer. Should do well as a team, finishing second in the group.
Ecuador: Suprisingly strong in last WC qualifying (finishing third behind only Brazil and Argentina) and the WC itself (narrowingly losing to England in the round of 16l), Ecuador no longer has the home advantage of playing at an extreme high altitude. Should be able to beat Chile to the third place. Hell, the might even cause an upset by not losing to either Brazil or Mexico. I'll be keeping an eye out for Edison Mendez, who scored an important goal against Arsenal in the CL last year.

C
Argentina: My personal favorites for the title. Players like Tevez, Messi, Cambiasso, Riquelme, Crespo and Heinze don't need an introduction. Keep an eye out for Boca's Rodrigo Palacio, an extremely skillfull striker. Let's hope Argentina shows us some beautiful football (best played goal of the WC).
Paraguay: A few high profile players (dos Santos, Santa Cruz). Should be quite a challenge to both Columbia and the USA. Watch out for striker Oscar Cardozo, who was just signed by Benfica for some 9 mill Euro.
Columbia: Don't know much about them, really. Won the tournament back in 2001.
USA: Quite a different team compared to the one that attended the gold cup, it'll be interesting to see how the youngster do it. But more importantly, how will the USA fare without Beasley?! :lol I hope to see Nguyen get some playtime.

Wasn't Borgheti (sp?) injured at the final round of Gold Cup due to hyper extended knee injury? I feel really sorry for Mexico losing their all time high-scorer...

I think Copa America will be quite exciting - especially all the European league games are all but finished, and only the transfer market is booming. (Although some of the transfers this year have been quite shocking, especially Henry to Barca - but actually I find Bayern's transformation is just unbelievable as now they've got Klose as well...!)

Looks good to me. Is the filesize ok?
It's 50k, so you should be good. I think I copied that from someone on the Arsenal-Mania forums, but I forget who it was. Otherwise I'd credit them for it. :(

Falch - thanks for the team reports on the Copa. I'm excited for this thing to start tonight - should be fun. I believe that Argentina are also slightly favored over Brazil to win the whole thing because of their more experienced squad.

Yeah, that's my reasoning too for favoring Argentina. I like Dunga a lot though, getting some fresh facing in the Brazilian squad. Makes the whole team seem less elitist.:lol Both of tonights matches seems interesting. Peru - Uruguay could decide who ultimately ends up first in the group, while the losing team in the match Venezuela - Bolivia will have a hard time getting past the group stage.

Oh dear Frank!
I was about to agree with you, until I got to this bit...
Elen Rives and fiance Frank Lampard enjoy the sea in Spain where they are taking a family break with daughters Luna, one, and month old Isla
...what say we give her a full two months to get back into prime shape before we cast her off with last week's trash, eh?
