there's definitely a lot of positives they can take from the game, but at the moment I can't really think too clear.

Considering how much I hate Chelsea it's just difficult to lose against them. They had 3 chances up to their second goal, including the 2 goals. Of course I shouldn't be surprised that they let Arsenal do the work and waited for their chance. But I can't fault our young team, they did great and deserved the cup. I'm not saying that Chelsea won completely undeservedly either by the way.

Having watched the incident in the end again I have to say that there was nothing that really warranted a red card - none of the 3 players should have been sent off. But you're not allowed to show any emotion, you just get ****s like Lawro complaining and whining all year long. **** them all. There was no punches thrown, no kicks, no nothing. A bit of pushing and shoving and some arguing, ****ing hell.

I just wanted to say that I hope that Terry is ok, it looked horrible and you don't wish that to happen to anyone, even if I cannot stand the guy.

I respect Terry, I think he's a good player but it just not has been his year so far, he's constantly getting injured, poor guy.

Bridge has admitted not being punched by Adebayor, he even went as far as saying that he shouldn't have been sent off.

I wonder why he was lying on the floor like dying after the incident then.

He couldn't take all the drama :( Poor guy.

:lol

It's understandable. I was actually hiding under my couch table at the time. There's always a chance Drogba or Robben might fall on your face and suffocate you when they go down - it's frightening.

having just watched the highlights on ITV I have to say that there should have been 1 red card after all - for Eboue. Great refereeing. The linesman must be absolutely blind to think that was Adebayor - he was ****ing yards away. Interview news: Mourinho is a prick, we knew that before though.

The Arsenal youngsters can be proud of their performance, but despite their chances I always watched it thinking Chelsea would snatch a win. I think Diaby impressed me most.

I still think Arsenal are just lacking that little bit to take on the title challenge again. I've not changed my mind on the midfield hardman thing, though Fabregas is getting quite the reputation as the midfield angry man. I still say see if you can get Hargreaves for Gilberto Silva and a bit of cash. If not, listen to Kolo and try and bring in Yoyo Toure. Monaco only bought him this year, so he might not be available, but I remember being impressed during the WC. Oh and if there's any chance of picking up Eto'o, do it. I know, there's van Persie and Adebayor to partner Henry...but it's Eto'o.

There's very little chance Arsenal or Chelsea will finish outside the top 4 anyway, but Chelsea are the less likely so today's result pretty much confirms at least 2 UEFA Cup places through the Premiership. Now obviously I want Blackburn to win the FA Cup and get into Europe that way, in which case I wouldn't give a crap how many UEFA Cup places the Premiership gets, but I'm hoping that if we don't it'll be an all Champions League qualified FA Cup final...which there's a good chance of. That would mean only having to come in the top 7 to get into Europe, and would give Blackburn a much better chance.

I think we have an outside shot at the top 6 anyway. Before today's game Hughes says he reckons we'd have to win 8 of the last 11 to make it, which is a tall order, but one down. And it is possible to win 7 of the last 10, check out our games:

A Bolton
H West Ham
A Man Utd
H Aston Villa
A Tottenham
H Watford
A Fulham
H Charlton
A Newcastle
H Reading

So we can afford to lose three...I'm hopeful of picking up points against anyone, but the most likely places we'd lose are away to Bolton, Man Utd and Tottenham. Which leaves:

H West Ham
H Aston Villa
H Watford
A Fulham
H Charlton
A Newcastle
H Reading

Newcastle and Fulham away aren't easy, but I'd say we go into all those games with a good chance of picking up 3 points. West Ham kind of worries me, they've been on such an awful run that I feel it has to end sometime. And they ended their last awful run against us as well.

Speaking of West Ham...Wigan won. As if they weren't already doomed, it's now 9 points with a goal difference that makes it 10. Normally a team like West Ham going down would be cause for "Hey, maybe we can pick up some good players" time. The Hammers' investment makes that less likely though, they can probably afford to keep most of their good players and make sure they come straight back up. And of course Tevez isn't even owned by them...not that I think anyone particularly wants Tevez in this country, he's been a disaster on a scale rarely seen. To a degree a striker at a relegated club can blame poor supply...but not to the degree that you'd score 0 goals in 19 games. At another club he might have scored a few, but that's still not good enough. He should try Spain if anyone will take him, the pace is different and he might become a star again.

There's hope for buying players though. Neill apparently has a relegation release clause and it's strongly rumoured Upson does. Not that I think Neill would come back to Blackburn and we don't really need a player in Upson's position, but others can move in for the kill. Who knows who else has a release clause.

If we assume Watford and Charlton are going down as well, there are definitely interesting players. They don't have the investment that West Ham do, they'll struggle to hang onto their stars. You never know, Andy Johnson went down with Palace and decided to stay, but if anything that should be a lesson to those thinking they can stick it out.

Darren Bent is the ultimate prize. I would love him at Blackburn, but I doubt we could afford him if he wanted to come, and I'm sure bigger sides are interested. Liverpool still don't seem to have found that pure finisher, though with their money they may be looking at even bigger names. Tottenham have great strikers, but don't seem to care and I could see Mido or Defoe being sold to make way for him. Despite the fact that I think Newcastle would be better spending their money on defenders only, they do seem obsessed with attacking players. Martins has done really well for them getting 14 goals so far, and he's only supposed to be secondary striker to Owen, who should get 20 plus. Then you have Ameobi and Sibierski on the bench, with Dyer able to play there in an emergency, and it's just unnecessary. This is Newcastle though. Villa again have the investment to spend, and have the 9th best defence but only the 15th best attack.

You could make a case for almost any team in the league wanting Bent, but those four are most likely I reckon.

This is skipping clubs to Watford, but it's another striker...Marlon King. I think a lot of people have forgotten about him as he's been injured almost all season, but he finished top goalscorer in the Championship last year, ahead of these Reading hotshots, and he looked dangerous in the Premiership to me in the little I saw of him. He's not a guy bigger clubs are going to go for, not unless they're looking for back up strikers, but for teams like Blackburn he could be a good buy.

As Young's been sold and Foster's owned by United, that's kind of all Watford have that's all that attractive. Back to Charlton though...Young, Reid, Kishishev...they have some interesting players. I'd take Luke Young, but the problem is I'd want him at reserve right back and there'd no way he'd be happy with that.

Anyway, that was rambling.

Linesman: "Oh, they all look the same to me."

Interviewer: "One's bald and the other has a very distinctive hairstyle!"

Linesman: "Yeah, but what colour's the hair? Brown! And we're called assistant referees now thank you very much."

Interviewer: "You've got to be kidding me. Fine. How about they have their names and numbers on the back of their shirts?"

Assistant referee: "Oh, they all look the same to me. It's all red and white isn't it."

Interviewer: "...."

Assistant referee: "I did think it was strange that Arsenal were playing the same man in so many different positions..."

Interviewer: "...."

Assistant referee: "...."

Interviewer: "I'm going to give you such a stabbing."

:lol

The worst thing is that I'm sure while Adebayors red card won't be taken back, Eboue will receive one on video evidence. So Toure, Adebayor and potentially Eboue will be out for 3 games. Exactly what we needed.

Good news for you Mama Smurf.

Im happy that Terry is ok. He came back to the stadium 2 hours after he was taken to the hospital. Its good to see that nothing serious has happened to him. He got hit so hard that it looked like he suffered a very serious injruy.

yeah, I was quite worried, so I am really glad he was back so quickly. It looked absolutely horrible.

In the end I thought that his injury was quite a factor in Chelsea winning this game. They seemed less shocked than the Arsenal players.

Uhhh what? Wouldn't the loss of Terry actually help Arsenal since they rely on him so damn much?

Hmm, not really, Terry was pretty sluggish and there's nothing like an injured comrade to motivate a team. Plus, it looked like Diaby went off because he was pretty shaken up by what happened (or he hurt his foot on Terry's face :X) and up until the incident Diaby was one of our strongest players.

To be honest, he wasn't that prevalent in the game, Chelsea clearly rushed him back from injury. Either way though, I'm so glad he's ok, the guy has been through so much and even though I don't like Chelsea, I respect him coz he's a fantastic player and to get kicked like that really worried me.

Being younger players, it might've been the first time they'd seen such a situation and found it harder to get back into the grove. Chelsea had seen this twice already (in the same game no less), so they were better equipped to handle it even though he is a significant part of the team.

I read somewhere that JT might've even swallowed his tongue. That's just gross. Thank God he appears to be okay now, though I can't imagine he doesn't have at least some post-concussion affects.

I think Diaby's injury (which oddly enough was apparantely caused from the kick to Terry's head) was the big turning point for us though...he was our best player in my view, making crazy runs from the rear midfield and linking up perfectly with his teamates. It's ridiculous how much he looked like Vieria.

It's funny how much prouder I feel of this team after a finals loss...the last time I felt this proud was after the loss to Barcelona. :lol Seeing this young group of troopsters frankly take it to Chelsea for a good chunk of the game was just amazing to see. The brawl was just bizarre though, cause outside of a couple isolated incidents there was no indication that things were going to blow up. And to be fair, nothing particularly nasty appeared to have been done or said after the final whistle, so I think it'll just be chalked up as one of those things. Too bad we're gonna end up costing us some 16 man games. :lol

My favourite moment of the match wasn't Theo's goal, though it was a close second (damn was that goal good BTW). It was seeing Henry's reaction to it, looking like a proud big brother. Honestly he rarely looks that excited when he scores a goal, the winner against United a month ago being the one exception. But he genuinely looked thrilled for Theo, and I just thought it was cool to see.

I've also gotta tip my hat to Drogba, a player who I've grown to like the last couple years and would probably worship if he was wearing the Arsenal crest. 28 goals in all competitions before March is completely and utterly stupid. He also displayed his class on a couple of occassions yesterday...first trying to help Adebayor not get into anymore trouble, then his comments after the game where he said he felt kinda guilty about celebrating a win due to John Terry's condition. It's amusing that along with C Ronaldo, two of the most loathed players in the Prem the last couple years are gonna end up battling for player of the year honours. And at this point I think it's a coin toss for who wins out...they'll probably have to base it on who wins the most silverware.

Some injury news regarding Arsenal. Sounds like Walcott has been carrying a shoulder injury all season, and Diaby got hurt yesterday. I haven't heard anything about the Diaby problem yet. From the BBC.

Arsenal put off Walcott's surgery
Arsenal have decided to postpone surgery on teenage star Theo Walcott's injured shoulder ligaments.

Walcott, 17, scored his first goal for the Gunners in Sunday's Carling Cup final against Chelsea - only to end up on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline.

It had been due to be Walcott's last game of the season.

But his manager Arsene Wenger said: "We wanted him fit for the start of next season but then Abou Diaby got injured so probably we will have to delay it."

Walcott has had a mixed season when given the opportunity to play but Wenger was impressed by his display against Chelsea.

"He had a good performance and scored a good goal," said the Arsenal boss.

"The way he scored the goal was absolutely outstanding so I'm very happy for him because recently he has not had the best of times so to show the whole world how good he can be is great for us and for England."

He's back coz he didn't have a big crazy ass on his case throughout the whole game:

This has almost inspired me to start looking for pictures of obese football players that are better than anyone that has ever played for my country. Maradona, Ronaldo, etc...

I don't know if anyone posted this already, but oh well.

All-Time Club World Ranking (since 1.1.1991)

An All-time Club World Ranking can only be meaningful and useful if it can be determined by taking account all the results of the national championships, the national cup competitions, the club competitions of the six continental confederations and the FIFA. It is therefore only possible to determine an All-time Club World Ranking from January 1st, 1991 – when the Club World Ranking began taking all these details into consideration.

The period from 1872 to 1990 can only be asssessed subjectively, mostly by using national and international champions as a guide. It follows that teams placed in the individual competitions cannot be taken into consideration, even if their titles were won easily or in spite of many defeats. It is simply not possible to establish a basis for giving all participating clubs an equal opportunity for the period 1872 to 1990.

The IFFHS has therefore has decided, logically, that the All-time Club World Ranking should be determined from January 1st, 1991 using the annual Club World Ranking (the situation at 31st December annually). For this it will take into consideration the „Top 25 Clubs“, annually and award them points from 25 points for the top club down to 1 point for the club in 25th place. Adding the points from the individual years for each club will provide the All-time Club World Ranking.

Great? Yes. Exceptional? No.

That 2-season knee-injury he suffered was a career-ending one. But he was too good and too many people had an interest in him so they tried to fix it. They did in a way, but he doesn't have the explosiveness anymore he showcased at PSV and Barcelona.

Look at the miss kick at the WC06 and look at his knee, that's not healthy. This info is from the guy who scouted him as a wee lad (Piet de Visser - Wiki).

Never count out Bayern until the final whistle has been blown and the newspapers say the other team has won.

Madrid will have to play better than they have been doing these last 3 seasons to get a good result in Bayern. And in the domestic league? Dunno, they've come back before, with even more points than now...

:lol at the brawl at the final, weird thing is the coverage has been kinda mild tbh, if that had been Man Utd there would have been a media explosion and everyone including Sepp Blatter would have been up in arms calling for expulsion or points deductions etc :D I would not be surprised if the punishments were reduced upon "further inspection" - whereas Rooney's stupid red card in the Amsterdam friendly was upheld by the FA.

That all-time ranking list which er...isn't all time? What is the friggin point? A list of popular ice cream flavours would have been more interesting than that crap.

Hiddink found guilty of tax fraud

Russia football manager Guus Hiddink has been handed a six-month suspended sentence and fined £30,000 after being found guilty of tax evasion.

The 60-year-old Dutchman was accused of evading more than £900,000 in Dutch taxes by falsely claiming to be a resident of Belgium in 2002 and 2003.

Prosecuters had sought a 10-month prison sentence but instead Hiddink was handed the maximum fine possible.

Hiddink signed a two-year deal with Russia in July 2006.

His side are ahead of England in their qualifying group for Euro 2008.

Russia lie second in group E, behind leaders Croatia but a point ahead of England.

Hiddink, the former South Korea, PSV Eindhoven and Australia boss, had been tipped to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson as England boss after the 2006 World Cup.

His close relationship with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich also led to rumours he was set to replace Jose Mourinho as manager at Stamford Bridge this summer - but Hiddink has dismissed the reports.

Seems like it's unlikely that there will be any bending for soap related injuries after all. Let's wait and see if Mourinho will still be there at the beginning of next season.

This is true. If ronaldo never suffered those injuries, then he would have been the greatest player since maradona. Ronaldo was a complete player. he had strenght, he was ****ing quick and he finished off every chance he got. The injuries were a massive blow to him. If that didnt happen, then ronaldo would have been unstoppable.

err, hiddink was never meant to go to Chelsea after the end of this season

btw, did anyone see mourinho's interiew in which he somewhat dissed arsenal:lol

Mourinho carries on being a dick. He's saying that Man Utd have been lucky and dont deserve their lead. he also had a go at Arsenal.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claims Manchester United have enjoyed more than their fair share of luck this season.

United are nine points clear of the champions in the Barclays Premiership after their last-gasp 2-1 win at Fulham on Saturday, although Mourinho's side have a game in hand.

"This is a season in which United have had no injuries and every player is fine to play," said the Blues boss, who also referred to Ryan Giggs' winner in the Champions League last week which French club Lille have appealed against.

"They go [to] the Champions League and have a disallowed goal for the opponent [Lille] and their goal is that goal.

"They go to Fulham and it looks like they deserve to lose and they win. They play at Tottenham, it's 0-0 and Cristiano [Ronaldo] dives, they get a penalty and win 4-0. It looks like everything is on their side, but that's football.

"I didn't see the Fulham game to be fair, but the information I have is it was completely undeserved. It's a game they could have lost and in the end they win it.

"In the Premiership all we can do is keep winning and see if the next step is to close the gap or to open the gap. If the next step is to close the gap and we can go from six points to four points, then everything is open."

Mourinho also claimed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has won just the 2005 FA Cup since Mourinho came to England, was under less pressure than him to win trophies.

The Blues beat their London rivals in a Carling Cup final on Sunday marred by three red cards and a brawl.

He said: "Arsenal have great boys. But I wouldn't be sad if a club gives me three, four, five years and tells me, 'You don't need to win. You can lose Premiership after Premiership, and you have three, four, five seasons to build'. I wouldn't be sad.

"Since I arrived at Chelsea, they lost Premierships, they lost the Charity Shield to us, they lost the Carling Cup to us. I don't think they are winning a lot. Absolutely brilliant young boys, manager top, team with a great future. But they didn't win."

I cant believe he said that. No injuries? Thats true if you ignore that park ji sung, van der sar, carrick, saha, neville, heinze and solskjaer all got injured. The only reason why it looks like we might not have had too much trouble with injuries is because over the past two seasons we've md major problems with players getting injured. He seems to have forgotten that Chelsea had never suffered too many injuries in the seasons that they've won the league, so I dont understand why the hell he's complaining about this.

He's complaining about goals not being given. He doesnt seem to understand that its the refs job to dissallow a goal if a player has been fouled. That isnt luck at all,m that is the ref doing his job properly. He cant talk about lucky goals anyway. If it wasnt for the ref nopt seeing carvalho pull valdes when terry scored against chelsea, then chelsea would have been out in the 2nd round. If there is a team that does get lucky when it comes to refereeing decisions then its chelsea. How many timkes has terry handballed the ball and gotten away with it?

Against fulham we didnt really deserve to win, but does mourinho really believe that chelsea deserved to win all the game that they've won. They certainly didnt deserve to beat wigan on the first day of the season last season. they didnt deserve to beat tottenham when gallas scored that brilliant goal. Ronaldo diving is a fair complaint, but not from a manager who has both cole's robben and drogba in their team.

If mourinho really believes what he said, then he really is a twat, but Im sure its a cheap attempt at trying to play a poor mind game to make united feel bad and make himself and the chelsea supporters a bit better about being second.

Dont think he's actually compaining, he's just saying you have the luck this season, which, after watching the fulham game, is definitely true. As he says "That's football".
