Not watching the match, but I see a team that is not USA or Mexico gets screwed once again in the Gold Cup.

And people in here practically called me paranoic.

Stuff:

- Spurs will buy Bent in the next week for £15m and a further £1m depending on achievements

- Eriksson has been offered a £2m a year contract at City if Thaksin takes over, and will be given a budget up to £50m (which is frankly needed, City's squad is small and a mess, they don't even have any real wingers)

- A South African billionnaire called Johann Rupert is reportedly looking to buy Blackburn

- Tevez is supposedly moving closer to a Madrid move

- Liverpool have upped their bid for Benayoun from 2 packs of Walker's cheese and onion and a kick in the groin to £4.5m

I'm liking this sale thing, I'd like either of our two rumoured buyers. I've been through why Williams would be good, so here's some stuff I read about Rupert:

Rupert is a former cricketer and helped to create the Laureus Foundation, which funds 23 Sport for Good projects, with the goal of motivating underprivileged children. He co-founded the Sports Science Institute with his old friend Morne du Plessis and Dr. Tim Noakes

Rupert also developed the Gary Player designed, Leopard Creek Golf Club in Mpumalanga, South Africa. (Rated as South Africa's best golf course, and number 25 outside the United States of America (Golf Digest))

He serves as Chairman of the South African PGA Tour and the Chairman of the South African Golf Development Board. Following upon his brother's tragic death he has taken over the L'Ormarins wine estate. He has recently initiated a major project to build the farm up in memory of his late brother.

He was council member of The South Africa Foundation and trustee of the Southern African Nature Foundation, The Institute of Directors in Southern Africa, Business South Africa and "Die Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns" and Managing Trustee and member of the investment committee, "Nelson Mandela Children's Fund". He served on the Daimler Chrysler International Advisory Board.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Rupert is also a committed conservationist.

So billionnaire, sporting background and keen interest, sense of charity and moral worth...sounds great.

And the Arsenal fans want Kroenke, the fools. Mainly hadareud.

Ok the Canada goal was a total **** up by the ref but throughout the whole game he was biased against the Americans.
No wonder the majority of people in Canada hate soccer.
I guess it's all good that the goal didn't count because it evened out the bad calls. Crazy.

Mexico 1-0 Guadeloupe FT

Mexico's best game so far in the Gold Cup (well that ain't saying much). Things are finally starting to gel. Sanchez continues making questionable personnel decisions, but he is getting better.

Mexico vs. USA final just as CONCACAF wanted it.

The level of this cup is so ****ing worthless. Mexico is going to get spanked in Copa America.
For whatever reason Mexico tends to play better in games where they are the underdogs ( see vs Arg@WC) It's almost as if they think they are too good to try vs "lesser" teams. That said I hope the Us tears them apart on Sunday.

This is different. LaVolpe's team was disciplined and had an idea of what to do with the ball. This team is a complete mess. They won't get past the 1st round in Copa America and the US will win easily on Sunday.

I never said it evens it out. It was a terrible call that should've lead the game to extra time. I just said that in response to Batigol saying that a team not Mexico or US was screwed over as if the ref was trying to allow the U.S. win. It's just embarrassing officiating all around.

Black... burn... Afrikaner... I don't know, seems kind of unpolitically correct.

Well, I'm glad the US won, but Canada got seriously jobbed there at the end. Not a great performance by the US. The most influential players were having a tough time getting on the ball - Dempsey in particular, though he did have a great pass to spring the run before the PK. His vision has been impressive this tournament - not something I've seen from him before. Bocanegra's tackle where he earned the card was awful, and the defense in general was very shaky. I'm not sure what the US needs to do to fix the defense, but they're way out of sync right now. Perhaps Boca and Gooch shouldn't play together as two similar players - both sort of large and immobile. They need a more disciplined/quick/thoughtful person back there, but I'm not sure who fits the bill.

Bradley pulled another stupid tackle after a very solid game and will miss the final on a red card. Dumb move by him, though it was somewhat inevitable - he goes in late time after time, and sooner or later it was going to catch up to him. Oh well, he's only 19 and this can be chalked up as a learning experience. Not sure who's going to line up in the midfield, though Bradley the Elder might consider going back to the 433 and clogging up the midfield with Clark, Feilhaber, and Mastroeni.

I watched the 2nd half of the Mexico game and they were all over Guadaloupe - nice shot on the goal. It'll be a tough match on Sunday, though I suppose El Gran Clasico always is. Have to admit I'm a bit more nervous than usual with the US defense not stepping up at the moment. Plus Hejduk is out, and I'm not sure Spector has the pace to handle Guardado.

To all you Mexicans and Mexican fans out there...

NO SE PUEDE! NO SE PUEDE! NO SE PUEDE!

The problem is that the standard of the game is so much higher these days than it was back then - it's more difficult to really stand out now I suppose.

Also, these days it's a lot more difficult for offensive players, since defending got a lot better too. Today's defenders are not only excellent in positioning but are also pacey and have good technical ability.

I'm not playing down any of those guys by the way, since they were fantastic and amazing.
Ive never had the chance to watch players like pele and maradona, Ive only seen clips of them. Ive always argued that it would be a lot more difficult for these players to stand out in today's game, but my dad says that maradona was playing now he would still be the best player in the world by far.

it's because C. Ronaldo is a horrible show off. It pisses me off watching 20 stepovers - there's nothing about those stepovers that a trained monkey couldn't do. Yeah, yeah, he's gotten better and all, but he's still a poxy little show off. (also, it's rumoured that the C does not stand for Cristiano)

Not all good players are like that though, luckily.
After what he's done this season, I couldnt give a ****. Sometimes his stepovers are completely useless. Agaianst AC Milan he tried doing all his skills but he pretty muhc provided nothing for both legs. However most of ronaldo's performances have been unbelievable this season. He is a show off and he probably very arrogant, but he's dome amazing things. Dont tell me that none of you wished you had him in your team. Who cares if he shows off, he brings results.

I'm annoyed at my sister, she's set her wedding date for a Saturday in September 2008. Who knows what fixtures might be on that day, she really has no consideration for others. I'm now gonna refuse to usher, they should just get a sign like I said in the first place.
That reminds me of the problems I get at home. During the 2004/05 and 2005/ 06 seasons my mum organised a social event for the whole family on the same boloody night as the CL final! Eventually she's forced to change the date of the event because everyonbe in the house is so opposed to it, but whenever we try to start persuyading her not to do it on that day she says "You've watched loads of games this year, it doesnt matter if you miss this one"

Ltes say that Blackburn and City do go ahead with the takeovers, thwese will be the clubs that have had takeovers since abramovich took over chelsea

Villa
Blackburn
Chelsea
Liverpool
City
Man Utd
Newcastle
Pompey
Sunderland
West ham.

I think so too, I think they all would be at the very top, for sure.

I don't know. If he would have joined us from Portugal maybe he would have grown on me. but it's difficult, even though he was the best player in the Premiership this season by quite a margin.

What a piece of shit ref. He has a clear bias against the Americans.

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

First you had some ****ing muppet do a two foot slide into Guzman, yet somehow managing to only get a yellow. Then they take away a goal that was onside on the pass, and double onside once the deflection took place. Bias against the US :lol...

I'm sick to ****ng death of these shitty ass refs making shitty ass calls that a ****ing 5 year old could see properly. **** watching the final.

On the bright side I'm incredibly impressed with the way Canada played during this tourney. They used attacking soccer, clever build up play and almost all their goals were total quality. They outplayed the US for most of the game and took it right to them, though the last five minutes in the first half was costly. Still, we tied the game up...the linesman simply decided to say otherwise, the ****ing roach.

The former Thai Prime Minister, who has today launched a bid for the football club, confirmed he will bring in substantial funds to build a successful City squad.

And he promised to never disappoint the Club’s passionate fan base, who have been yearning for success.

On the issue of transfer funds, Dr Shinawtara said: “When you buy a boat, you need to buy an engine! If necessary it may cost £50m, it may cost £30m or it may cost £20m. I will leave recruitment to my advisors, but I know we need two strikers, two midfielders and maybe some others.”

Sounds like Newcastle.

Look at our awesome expensive Strikers.
Look at our awesome expensive Midfield.
Oh... and erm... defenders... maybe.

Liverpool's hopes of landing Fernando Torres have hit a setback as Atletico Madrid are refusing to drop their £27m asking price. (The Sun)

erm... didn't yesterday there's a clause in the contract saying he could leave for £24 million. WTF?

true.

I really don't want Adriano though. As I see it he is on a level with Baptista, only incredibly unsympathetic on top of that.

Looks like Bolton are interested in signing Cisse, but for a crappy £8 million, compared to the £14 million we paid for.

I wonder what Houllier was thinking, Kewell and Cisse are one of our most highest paid players in the club, but based on their performances on the pitch they don't deserve it especially Kewell who's barely been on the pitch at all almost, like a Ballack and Shevchenko.

I think they've been linked with enough strikers to fill a whole team of them, looks like they're extending to the subs bench and then eventually... the manager.

That video of Henry on a Korean TV show.... In part 8 he asks the presenters of the show to come down to London one day and he'll get them tickets for a game and go out with them...........

Henry staying at Arsenal confirmed by Korean TV.... ^^;

Man Utd winger Ryan Giggs is considering a new career when he retires from football - as a reality TV star. (Daily Star)

No Ryan No. Not that it would happen anyway. Ryan Giggs was Beckham before Beckham was, unfortunately he was as dry as sandpaper. Those old Nike ads with him as a dafodil salesman :D

let's hope so. Like I said before I don't think he actually wants to leave, he's just playing a game.

The more important thing however: you watched 8 parts of this show?

Hopefully they do. Promoted clubs need a good striker or else they struggle. Had marlon king not been injured for watford, then they would been able to put up a much better fight.

Oh... and erm... defenders... maybe.

Well City actually have a good defence, 8th best in the league last year. They've lost Distin (who I'd probably try and replace with Campbell), but they have that Onuoha guy coming through who's done well for the U21s. They could improve their defence, but they're right to prioritise in midfield and attack, they had the joint lowest goalscoring record alongisde Watford last season.

I personally think they need 3 midfielders and 2 strikers though, at the minimum.

I wonder what Houllier was thinking, Kewell and Cisse are one of our most highest paid players in the club, but based on their performances on the pitch they don't deserve it

Kewell has a bad spell, but generally I think his performances on the pitch have been of a high standard. If he could just stay fit I doubt Benitez would be looking for a left winger at all.

As for Cisse, he's just another of a long line of strikers Liverpool have somehow managed to ruin, regardless of how well they did before joining. He scored 70 goals in 128 games for Auxerre, over 1 every 2 games. Like Bellamy scored 17 in 33 games at Blackburn, and Morientes 128 in 250 for Madrid, Kuyt 71 in 101 for Feyernoord, Crouch 16 in 24 at Southampton...every one of them hitting better than a goal every 2 games at their former clubs! What are you doing to these guys at Liverpool, it's like a striking graveyard.
