CL Qualifiers

Toulouse v LIVERPOOL
Sparta Prague v ARSENAL

Testers for sure.

West Ham are claiming victory in the Tevez saga now because MSI issued the court action in the first place and now they are now paying out £2 million to avoid it :lol

Well, there's a few option files out there that are up to date up until the last week of July...

http://www.pesgaming.com/forumdisplay.php?f=253

All of 'em will get additional updates as the summer progresses, presumably culminating with final option files shortly after the transfer deadline.

:lol Hey, you take whatever victories you can get...

I'm really not happy with this draw, Sparta Prague is a very decent side and they could cause problems.

On the other hand, we've got to win games like this anyway if we want to challenge for titles this season.

Smith has signed for Newcastle.

Blackburn have drawn MyPa in the UEFA Cup. Currently 4th in the Finnish league. I'm ermm...not worried.

when is this game scheduled? Toulouse is gonna get owned so hard that I can hardly wait to make fun of my cousins

all games in this round are 14/15 and 28/29th of August.

Yea, pretty hard draw for Liverpool, more or less the hardest possible opponent out there.

Sparta also can be pain in the arse, they are tough nut to crack, especially that early in the season.

Spartak Moscow must be destroyed. Celtic, I count on ya. :) Usual "wing/header" tactic with decent speed should do wonders here.

Tevez signing is good news, but I still feel we need a cheap out-and-out striker, maybe Yakubu who can come on and change the game and out style of play.

On the CL draws, I don't think either of the matches are tough, they're just amongst the harder draws you could have gotten. If it was a one off game or a group game, you could maybe just have a bad day or think you might drop points away, but all you have to do is beat them over the course of two legs. I can't imagine either team won't do that.

We've got saha that can do that. The only problem is that he's too injury prone, but een if he is unfit for most of the season there really is no need to buy another striker. We've already got enough options.

Adebayor is going to miss the start of the season.

http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_2638936,00.html

"Adebayor has a groin problem," Gunners chief Arsene Wenger told the club's website.

"He missed the Emirates Cup and will miss the Ajax Tournament.

"At best he will be back next week. We hope he can come back in to normal training on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"But I think he will miss the start of the Premiership."

Apart from the Liverpool match, there's also Doncaster Rovers v Man Utd later today. Given that the Community Shield is Sunday, none of the fit first team players will be involved, so I normally wouldn't watch it, but there's a good chance Anderson and Hargreaves will play.

There's also another Man Utd match tomorrow against Peterbrough though...I don't know why, how many United reserve players are there that they need two matches on top of the Community Shield...so it's possible they'll play tomorrow instead.

Or they might play both, Arsenal played PSG and Inter on consecutive days and some players played both.

Pato has signed for Milan for 10 million pounds. I've not seen him play but from what Ive heard he's meant to be the next kaka. He might turn out to be as good as him, but you cant take those comments seriously because whenever there's a young brazilian talent they alwasy say that he's going to be the next ronaldo, ronaldinho or kaka.

He plays in kaka's role, so that could indicate that Milan are preparing to sell kaka in the next few season or maybe they'll make him play in midfield so he can replace one of the members of milans aging midfield.

I so love creative fans. :) I guess the picture should mean that they were born to support FC Zürich. :)

I saw him a lot in the U20 World Cup. He's a striker, not an attacking midfielder. And he only impressed me in one game, and that was only after he scored and his confidence was up.

I'm not convinced by him, and he's certainly not the next Kaka, though every Brazilian coming through is the new someone of course.

That Brazil U20 team wasn't particularly impressive in general, so it's hard to judge those players on an individual basis (save for that ridiculous mid air sisscor kick goal against Spain...forget who scored it).

Well he's still really young. He's only 17 like me, which makes me feel pretty useless. In a couple of years time he can really improve.

I wasnt aware he was a striker, I got my facts wrong. It makes sense for milan to buy pato. Currently their strikers are gilardino, inzaghi and ronaldo, whilst kaka can play as a astriker too. Both inzaghi and ronaldo are over 30, so they needed to buy pato to eventually become a replacement to the older strikers.

They also need to look for midfielder replacements too. Their midfield is getting quite old.

so whats the deal? West Ham still own Tevez but he is at Man Utd for 2 years with them paying all wages, and after the 2 years are up he is out of contract? Or does Kia own him? Confusing stuff..

Sparta Prague will be a tricky tie. That was one of the worst options. Ah well - have to beat a few teams to win the Champions League...

Mediotiempo's latest cartoon has the Mexican league teams who are out of the SuperLiga shuffling home.

The prince (Morelia Monarchs) laments to the eagle (Club America), "Why didn't you let me continue in the SuperLiga?"

Responds the mischievous eagle, "Because we needed a royal escort to get us past the Border Patrol."

The full qualifying draw....

Third Qualifying Round draw:

FH Hafnarfjördur (Iceland) or FC BATE Borisov (Belarus) v Zaglebie Lubin (Poland) or FC Steaua Bucharest (Romania)
Tampere United (Finland) or PFC Levski Sofia (Bulgaria) v FC Astana (Kazakhstan) or Rosenborg BK (Norway)
Spartak Moscow (Russia) v Celtic (Scotland)
Werder Bremen (Germany) v NK Domzale (Slovenia) or NK Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia)
FK Ventspils (Latvia) or FC Salzburg (Austria) v FC Pyunik (Armenia) or FC Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine)
Ajax (Holland) v MSK Zilina (Slovakia) or SK Slavia Prague (Czech Republic)
Valencia (Spain) v Debreceni VSC (Hungary) or IF Elfsborg (Sweden)
KRC Genk (Belgium) or FK Sarajevo (Bosnia Herzegovina) v Dynamo Kyiv (Ukraine)
Fenerbahçe (Turkey) v Anderlecht (Belgium)
Rangers FC (Scotland) or FK Zeta (Montenegro) v Red Star Belgrade or Levadia Tallinn
Toulouse (France) v Liverpool (England)
Benfica (Portugal) v FC Copenhagen (Denmark) or Beitar Jerusalem (Israel)
Lazio (Italy) v Dinamo Bucharest (Romania)
Sparta Prague (Czech Republic) v Arsenal (England)
Zürich (Switzerland) v Besiktas JK (Turkey) or FC Sheriff (Macedonia)
Sevilla (Spain) v AEK Athens (Greece)

Should be a couple decent games in there, and a few of the favorites won't make it through.

...Benfica and Rangers have the same draw

Kia owns him, West Ham no longer have anything to do with him. Kia has no control over Tevez whatsoever in the 2 year loan period though, he can't demand he leaves halfway through or anything like that, he won't get a cut from Tevez's wages.

This is what's reported anyway. The PL haven't even given the go ahead yet, though West Ham and MSI both say it's done.

And Alex is apparently having a medical at Chelsea atm.

PSV - AC Milan will start any moment now. They're playing at a tournament in Moscow with Lokomotiv Moscow and Real Madrid.

Unfortunatly Farfan, Kone and Perez are injured. We've only got one decent striker (Lazovic) left. Oh well, they should all be fit for the start of the competition in two weeks.

We're playing:

--------------Gomes
Kromkamp-Addo-Salcido-Zonneveld
--------------Simons
-----Mendez------------Aissati
-------------Afellay
-------Bakkal-----Lazovic

Good catch. Fixed...

So Gilberto probably isn't going to be ready for the season opener, so it'll be interesting to see who Wenger pairs w/ Fabregas in the middle. Diaby? Denilson? Flamini? Diaby probably makes the most sense, but I can see Wenger going with Flamini on this one.

So, this is my final update on the new FC Bayern Munich!

He does seem to have played Flamini a lot this pre-season. He'll probably just mix it up.

Of course, there's still a week until the start of the season, it's possible someone else will be signed by then.

Do any of you have BT Total Broadband? I don't, but if you do and you can get freeview then it might be worth looking at a package called BT Vision.

It has other benefits, but in terms of football, if you pay £4 a month (after the £90 installation), they show 242 full Premiership matches on demand, but delayed until after 10pm throughout the season. That's over 64% of all the games. The delay's annoying, but if you can avoid the scores then there's a hell of a lot of matches there. They also show 125 live lower league and Carling Cup matches.

Like I say, I can't get it, but if I had Total then I'd really think about it. I'd definitely do it if it wasn't for that installation fee.

Anyway, saw it in this article on how to see football this season in the UK:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6922014.stm

Doesn't mention myp2p for some reason....weird.

Ok, the Premier League have given the go ahead for the Tevez move. So here's United's (near) final squad for next season:

GK

Van der Sar
Foster
Kuszczak

LB

Evra
Silvestre
Heinze*

RB

Neville
Brown

CB

Ferdinand
Vidic
Evans
Pique

LW

Giggs
Nani

RW

Ronaldo
Park

DCM

Hargreaves
Carrick
Fletcher
O'Shea

ACM

Scholes
Anderson
Eagles

FW

Rooney
Tevez
Saha
Solskjaer
Dong

There are other players like Simpson and Bardsley who I'm unsure about. Probably got too much experience to be youth team, so either they'll be loaned out, sold, or part of the first squad.

*probably be sold, if not unlikely to play anyway

Which 242 matches do BT get to show? Does anyone know?

Im guessing its the same 242 Sky have highlights of on the red button, but it's not Setantas live games or Skys...unless they get to choose which games they have.

That seems to make sense, yeah.

You can get Setanta Sports with BT Vision though, either just normally (£10/month) or, if bought with the £4 delayed coverage package, £8 (£12 overall).

Apparently the Virgin Media XL package gets you every live game possible, from Sky and Setanta and everything else...but it is like £40 something a month and the installation charge is huge too, so they can go p2p themselves.

Ok, I need to make a correction because this is so damn delicate. The PL have not yet given the go ahead for Tevez to join United. What they have done is given the go ahead for the deal between West Ham and MSI.

There's no reason it won't go through, it's no different to the Mascherano deal at Liverpool, it's just not done yet.

Apparently Chelsea's frontline on Sunday will be Drogba, supported by J Cole and Malouda.

Bolton have signed Daniel Braaten from Rosenborg BK for £423k. He won't be in the starting 11 but Bolton's problems over the years has been their ability to run out of steam later on in the season due to injuries and lack of depth in various positions. Good signing by LSL, and he got it done before Rosenborg played their Champions League qualifier as we want to use him for the UEFA Cup I'm guessing.

Sebastian Leto, Lucas Leiva and Fernando Torres will all make their first Liverpool starts against Shanghai Shenhua this evening.
The trio feature as the Reds kick off the Rotterdam Tournament at 5.30pm.

Rookie keeper David Martin plays his second game in 24 hours after appearing for the reserves against Shakhtar Donetsk yesterday.

The Liverpool team in full is: Martin, Finnan, Insua, Paletta, Hyypia (cap), Leiva, Sissoko, Leto, Benayoun, Torres, Crouch. Subs: PR, JAR, SG, XA, AA, DK, RB, JM, JC.

Should be interesting.

Looking forward to it. Especially Leto, as I still think Liverpool are weak on the wings, but I haven't see him yet.

The Tevez thing is apparently a formality, and should be done early next week.

He doesn't have the match fitness he needs yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him involved against Reading. Perhaps not from the start, but give him half an hour, a game in the reserves, 60 minutes against Portsmouth and he should be ready for the Manchester derby.

Man City are linked with Diego, from Bremen. Sven was asked about the rumour during a press conference (along with a couple of other names, so not just Diego) and said he never commented on rumours, but he expected another new player to arrive next week.

Now Diego would be an amazing signing, but I don't believe it. Possibly Bremen would unwillingly let him go if Man City offered a ridiculous amount, but does he want to leave a CL team for City? He's good enough to go to a top team if he wants to leave Bremen.

The only reason I mention it is that Elano reportedly said, when signed, that when he agreed to join he asked if they were planning to bring in any other Brazilian players, and was told yes.

PSV just beat AC Milan on penalties: 4-3. Simons (PSV) and AC Milan's Gourcuff and Seedorf missed. PSV wil play the final on sunday against either Real or Lokomotiv Moscow.
