That's awesome. About time Ronaldinho got the boot. I don't think he deserves the cover anymore. Maybe some C. Ronaldo, Henry, along with Altidore?

LOL Ronaldinho is still there but he shares it with Jozy and some Mexican guy who's name escapes me.

Liverpool match last week was OMG, and Jesus Christ at Drenthe pace on the guy, I'd type more but a shitload has happened in the past month.

Drenthe and Robben to Madrid for 13m and 25m, respectively.

FINALLY! I needed some good news.

Sneijder and Quaresma are the next targets, apparently.

Well if the Mirror is to be believed Aston Villa nicked Carson on loan.

I don't want to see him leave, but i also don't want to see him on the bench being unhappy, and with Reina picking up the Golden Glove award for the second year in a row, it's going to be damn tough for Carson.

A bit of bad news for me yesterday..... I work at a playscheme over the summer and I couldn't be arsed to go get myself a drink from the shop just down the road so I sent one of the "helpers"... Anyway, he finally got back and tells me he bumped into fucking adebayour on Hampstead highstreet! >.>
So yeah, just as my lazyness caused my brother and not me to meet Pires (in the exact same spot) a while back I now miss out on meeting Ade, whilst a little brat who can't even say his name right did. v.v;;;

rumours:

The only info that surfaced is that Feyenoord started talking again with Real due to Drenthe starting a trial, or threatening to start a trail against Feyenoord.

Rumours are Real paying €12.5 or €13 million. Feyenoord want €17 (plus him playing for another year in Holland). I'd say sell the bastard, he had a great tournament, but most Dutch people think he's a fluke (79% according to the last online pool at Holland's premiere football site)

Sell his greedy ass now he's still worth a shitload!!

why is there no confirmation of the Drenthe transfer anywhere?

Is there still hope that Real didn't get him?

edit: oh, and Gilberto has officially been named as our new captain. Allegedly.

edit: it's true

I like that. He's done a good job last season and he deserves it.

OH NOES! Now all we have to do is convince him not to leave for Juventus. Pfffffff....

/end sarcasm

Thanks for the insight.

I hope it doesn't work out, it would be a real shame to see a player like him go to a club like Real, especially since he's so young. Ah well, on the other hand we can probably buy him off Real for less than half the money next year after he's started no game and came off the bench twice.

Sweet on Drenthe, not so cool with Robben - I think he's overrated!
Robben played really well for chelsea. He's quick and he's goit good feet. The only problem is that he's quite injury prone.

Cassano eh
He's got loadws of talent, but he's an arrogant porick who doesnt take things seriously. There was a brief spell at roma when he started to behvae himself, but for most of career he's not commitied to looking after his body and staying out of trouble. If city can buy him and sven sorts him out, it'll turn out to be an amazing buy, but its going to be difficult to do that.

he also is a whining diving cunt.

he is quality though, imagine what he could have done and could do if he had a manager that sets him straight.

Nostalgic Arsenal fans still harbour hopes of seeing Chelsea's Shaun Wright-Phillips in the No8 shirt worn with such distinction by his stepfather, but Ian Wright fears it will never happen.

He said: "I've tried to get him into Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger doesn't want him. What do the fans want me to do, camp outside the training ground?"

interesting.

It's less with not wanting him (though with Walcott here now SWP is kinda redundant)...he'd simply be too expensive. Even if Chelsea gave Arsenal a bargain price on him, they'd still be looking at coughing up 10 mill and change. If Wenger isn't gonna pay that for Malouda, no way is he gonna pay that for SWP.

Man...days away till kickoff weekend. Arsenal really need to start their season right and get three or four wins under their belt. Last season's title hopes were basically over in August. :lol

Sorry, you've got Blackburn away second game.

that's true of course. I think we should withdraw from that game, as we're pretty much chance less anyway.

Anyway, if we can't get a good start with these starting fixtures

Arsenal v Fulham
Blackburn v Arsenal
Arsenal v Man City
Arsenal v Portsmouth
Tottenham v Arsenal
Arsenal v Derby
West Ham v Arsenal

we are in for a rough ride this season again.

The only games that would be acceptable for losing points are Tottenham and West Ham away. If we want to challenge we need to win the rest, apart from maybe one little slip up (a draw).

I dunno, Blackburn, Man City, Portsmouth, Spurs and West Ham should all present tests.

I think you have an easier opening 7 games than Man Utd and Chelsea though, about equal with Liverpool.

Man Utd

Man Utd v Reading
Portsmouth v Man Utd
Man City v Man Utd
Man Utd v Tottenham
Man Utd v Sunderland
Everton v Man Utd
Man Utd v Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea v Birmingham
Reading v Chelsea
Liverpool v Chelsea
Chelsea v Portsmouth
Aston Villa v Chelsea
Chelsea v Blackburn
Man Utd v Chelsea

Liverpool

Aston Villa v Liverpool
Liverpool v Chelsea
Sunderland v Liverpool
Liverpool v Derby
Portsmouth v Liverpool
Liverpool v Birmingham
Wigan v Liverpool

So if you're around Liverpool that's fine, but if you're not either equal or ahead of Chelsea/Man Utd, it's hard to see how things would get better.

exactly. We need 4 or 5 wins, 2 draws and we can't afford to lose any of these games. I think Liverpools fixtures are tougher than they look though. All their away games are extremely tough, and they also have Chelsea at home.

Although I do agree that they aren't that easy. But Portsmouth and Man City at home has to be done and Blackburn away. Well, Van Persie isn't injured at the moment, so I have a good feeling about that game.

The way I see it the top 4 could look something like this at the end of September:

Arsenal 15 pts
Man Utd 15 pts
Chelsea 13 pts
Liverpool 12 pts

Arsenal have the best fixtures and have to take advantage, or else things will be difficult.

It's exactly the other way around actually. Drenthe is a one-trick pony that played a good U21 Euro. He'll never cut it at Real. Robben on the other hand is one of the best leftflank players I've ever seen. If only he wasn't injured so much.

If I was Mourinho, or Abramovich, or Grant or whoever the hell's in charge of these things, I'd refuse to let Robben go except in direct exchange for Ramos. I know Madrid wouldn't want to lose him, but I wouldn't want to lose Robben either, so the deal would be if you want one of my top players, you can stump up one of yours.

Actually if I was Abramovich I'd tell them to piss off, keep him, and stump up the money for Alves separately.

...actually I'd sell Chelsea and buy Blackburn.

Bundesliga starts tomorrow \o/

10.08.07 20:30 VfB Stuttgart : FC Schalke 04
11.08.07 15:30 Bayern München : Hansa Rostock
11.08.07 15:30 Bayer Leverkusen : Energie Cottbus
11.08.07 15:30 VfL Bochum : Werder Bremen
11.08.07 15:30 Hannover 96 : Hamburger SV
11.08.07 15:30 Eintracht Frankfurt : Hertha BSC
11.08.07 15:30 VfL Wolfsburg : Arminia Bielefeld
12.08.07 17:00 1. FC Nürnberg : Karlsruher SC
12.08.07 17:00 Borussia Dortmund : MSV Duisburg

Liverpool look like they're going to sign Charles Itandje, the Lens goalkeeper. Whether that means Carson will be sold or let out on loan, I don't know, but one of them seems likely.

Damn it, hadareud, stop hating on Madrid. Any young player can flourish on the team. There's a reason why it's the greatest club in the history of the sport. Just because it has had a few bad years mostly because of terrible management doesn't mean it'll stay like that forever.

The continuous signing of young players like Gago, Higuain, Marcelo, Schorch and others shows that at least they're trying to change. Yes, they still pay ridiculous prices for some players, but at least they left the Galactico policy behind.

I think it's time to predict the Premiership table gentlemen and, well, gentlemen.

let me start

1. Arsenal
2. Man Utd
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
---------------
5. Spurs
6. Man City
7. Everton
8. Blackburn
9. Newcastle
10. Portsmouth
11. West Ham
12. Aston Villa
13. Sunderland
14. Bolton
15. Middlesbrough
16. Reading
17. Fulham
----------------
18. Wigan
19. Birmingham
20. Derby

Obviously I am the only one to predict that Arsenal can do it, but I don't care. I honestly believe that this is the season and everyone saying how much worse we are than last year and how Spurs will nick 4th of us - it is the perfect time to prove everyone wrong.

I think that Sunderland will have a decent season, but I don't think they will do as well as Reading last year. The other 2 will have a tough time surviving and I don't think they can. Reading will have a much tougher year than last season, but they'll stay up.

Sven will do a great job at Man City and challenge Spurs for 5th.

There you go, predict away.

sorry. I don't even hate Madrid. It's just jealousy really, I would have loved to land Drenthe. That said, I don't think he'll do well at Real because he's too young and there's no patience there. I think in a year or 2 he'll go to the Premiership and do well.

I'm not making any table predictions...too many things can happen before Christmas. Go back to a year ago and you had people picking Man U to finish 4th for fuck's sake.

Altidore is thinking about going to Europe.
"I definitely went back and forth about it," Altidore said about considering a move to Europe. "There was a time when I said to myself that I'm not going to go there until I'm 21, when I'm more mature and able to take care of myself and live a life like that. But then again I thought about the soccer aspect. If I wait until I'm 21 there might be a big drop off there so the younger the better."

"That's the way I see it now," Altidore said. "The quicker you can get there the better. Even if it starts off tough you can always adjust to it, especially if it's a team that needs you. It's all about timing."

Sky Sports officially confirmed that Gilberto is our new captain.

Not so much, our new captain is William Gallas

http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?...+named+captain+as+Wenger+looks+to+older+heads

Arsène Wenger has confirmed that William Gallas will captain Arsenal during the coming season.

The centre back, who joined from Chelsea less than a year ago, will be supported by vice-captains Gilberto and Kolo Toure on the pitch while Jens Lehmann will have a role off it.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday lunchtime the Arsenal manager outlined the reason for the change. Wenger is in charge of a very young squad this term so he needs to use every scrap of experience.

“[The captain] will be William Gallas,” he said. “There will also be two vice-captains, Kolo Toure and Gilberto.

Boy...that's a good question. I'd assume it was beating Leciester City 2-1 in the final game of the '04 season to clinch the Invincibles tag.

BTW, according to Arsenal's website Gallas has officially been named captain by Wenger, with Silva and Toure in the vice roles.

http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?...+named+captain+as+Wenger+looks+to+older+heads

Contradicts the previous story about Silva getting the armband, though as I said before I think it's a bit overrated anyway...leaders don't need a piece of cloth around their bicep to get shit done.

Shinobi said:

Agreed. He should be fine, and the other two will be out on the pitch, as well.

Lens say that goalkeeper has signed for Liverpool, so they can rush through Carson's loan to Villa. It was important that it was done quickly, as the deadline for the CL qualifiers is tomorrow, and if Liverpool didn't get another keeper today, Carson would have had to stay at least 2 more weeks to sit on the bench in those games.

I'm not unhappy with the choice, quite a few fans will be. He's an ex Chelsea player and he couldn't keep his mouth shut a couple of times.

Anyway, he could be a good captain. Although I have a feeling he might not be the best man in difficult situations.

That said, PREDICT THE TABLE PEOPLE

So I was taking care of my sister's dog for a week and a half this Summer while she was in Ireland with her husband and daughter. They bought me an Arsenal tracksuit in Cork to say thanks, and they gave it to me last night. :D
