Bit unlucky - the ball skipped right up. It's not like the hand prevented the ball from going anwyhere useful - but still a penalty I suppose. Still, Liverpool have had a couple of chances to finish this off.

Shit - what a goal, Gerrard!

Villa deserve it, they've really piled forwards.

And I hope the people going on and on about the lack of English players in the game hurting us are watching this game, there are loads of them out there playing well.

I feel sorry for Villa. They've played well during the second half and have stopped liverpool from creating any chances. They deserved atleast a point from this game.

there's still four minutes to go, so maybe they can get an equaliser. I hope so anyway.

yeah, to give a free kick was an absolute joke.

Yeah, not too much in it. Looked like it needed the claim from Gerrard to give it as well.

edit: actually, looking at the replay - it's a bit harsh but I've seen them given before.

it's a shame. Liverpool didn't deserve to win this, especially with that shocking free kick decision.

Now they will gain confidence. I don't agree with this at all.

Don't speak to me. Don't even look at me...

Especially anyone from Merseyside. Even Evertonians aren't safe at the moment.

WTF DID I JUST SEE. INJUSTICE FTL.

I'll go against the tide and say it was a free kick.

What a great day. And I've still got Match of the Day to come, and tomorrow is potentially the even more exciting day.

it might have been a free kick, but Riley would have not given it had Gerrard not complained and stopped playing.

That is a joke and a shocking decision. Not that I'm surprised, it's Riley after all.

Clear free kick. If you can't see that let me have a puff of what you're smoking.
Still Gerrard had lot to do on the free kick and how he did :D

Not pretty but the win it is.

We....we love you Premiership!

Yep the last two months has been torture.

Didn't see fuck all of the match so I can't comment till Football First tonight.

Liverpool still lack that clinical touch should have been over in the first half.

Thats what I didnt like about the decision. If players didnt protest, i doubt he would have given it, but his decision was infuenced by the protests of the liverpool players. Liverpool got that free kick by nagging.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS TAKE THAT LIVERPOOL!

HOW MUCH MONEY AND YOU CAN'T SCORE YOURSELF? WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

:lol :lol :lol

It was a harsh call...then again, I thought the Carragher handball call was equally harsh. That ball simply skipped up into him, he could barely move his hands in time to avoid it. And who would it have gone to anyway? But by the letter of the law, a penalty had to be given.

I guess the problem with the free kick call is that we see far rougher stuff that's allowed most of the game, yet at that particular juncture the ref just happens to find his whistle. Either call all the rough stuff, or don't call any of it at all.

And as one of the commentators said, the goalies get far too much protection now. He only has to jump into a crowd and change direction to get a free kick...doesn't really matter what the opposition did.

Anyway, that was a fun game...gonna be a long wait for tomorrow.

exactly, and I hate that kind of stuff

He did well spotting Barry's dive and booking him though, that pissed me off. English players shouldn't be doing it.
true, I was very surprised about that. Hopefully that means that refs have been instructed to really do something about diving this year.

On the other hand there was this horrible dive by the Spurs player in the box (I forgot who it was) and he didn't get anything for that. So I guess it's just like it used to be.

It was zokora. I cant believe he didnt get booked for that.

Actually, He looked as though he may have been waiting to see where the ball fell after Gerrard was held, to see if Liverpool gained the advantage.

Players always nag that's part of the game, I hate to see it too. Especially nagging for cards that should be outlawed.

Nevertheless on the replay it was clearly a tug to stop Gerrard through. So Villa can have no complaints on the validity of the free kick.

They were showing the incident on TV again and after another look, I can see why the ref gave it. Its just the nagging and complaining that players do to get their way that pisses me off.

I'm sure if I was a neutral I would appreciate the goal. Unfortunately I see it as the tainted offspring of a savage injustice of the beautiful game and it's rules.

one thing is for sure: I too am really glad the Premiership is back.

all the games were decent, the Villa - Liverpool game even good, and there was plenty of goals and incidents.

Looking forward to Match of the day now. Especially with Sven back in the league there should be a few nice jokes and good moments tonight.

Man, that was such a weak call in that Liverpool/Villa game.

It produced an absolutely beautiful goal, so I guess I can't complain that much, but if I were a Villa fan I'd be furious.

wait Gerrards in my fantasy team do I get a cookie?

I hate nagging to but it's the same when refs get influenced towards the home team but it's the premiership and shit like this along with other stuff happens we bitch an' moan the circle of life.

God I missed the premiership.
