aaaaaand that's a wrap, folks.

Tony Bennett to croon us out of here, tonight.

Alright, I'm off to the expo to take a look at that 17" monster. hopefully they have some matte versions on display so I can check the difference.

looking forward to playing around with iMovie, as well.

So no new iPhone, no sign of Snow Leopard, no new iMac, no iGame, no new Mac mini...mega disappointment.

If you use the battery for only 2 hours and then recharge, doesn't that count against the # of charges.

Watch the 7 hours becomes 5 after a couple of months and then 3 by the end of the year. Batteries lose their capacity over time.

Maybe this is where the whole smart charging thing comes into play. From how it was explained to me the battery itself is "fooled" out of it's full capacity over time so if a program can smack it in the head and say "you idiot" then maybe it will last longer?

:D

Just doing the math. 1000 recharges at 8 hours per charge = 8000 hours, divided by 24 hours in a day means you could run the new MacBook Pro for 333 days straight. Let's say you used it 8 hours a day that means 1000 days. Who cares if the battery lasts 5 years if you're going to burn it out in under 3!?
That sounds so much better than my NEW Macbook Pro 15".

Which by the way, has so many fucking issues.

Battery life going down IN SLEEP MODE and decreasing battery capacity, It's not very impressive! :(

It's a widespread issue, but luckily I have AppleCare...

:| That's not there yet on my store.. Going to itunes plus shows me I can upgrade about a third of my collection, but I've a feeling that was how it was before too. Hopefully they're just switching over as we speak.
Yeah, that was the old method in the U.S. store too, but now that most of the music is DRM free there's no need for a DRM free section (iTunes Plus link).

Rechargable batteries are considered dead once they only charge to 70% capacity, so after 1000 charges, you'll still get a good 5 hours or so after 3 years of use 8 hours a day, on battery. If the figures are true, most people will have nothing to worry about (and most heavy users will probably want a new one by then anyway)

No iphone nano, or igame :(

So stupid that there's no new Mac Mini, now's the perfect time to launch one with a cheaper price! So much for ending Macworld with a bang :(

Not very interesting this year. Not much of a way to end Macworld if I'm honest.

Seeing as this is the last ever you would expect a look into future products of something.

Oh well, CES starts soon.

standard Macworld response...we always see these pop up before 11am. there should be a fucking Macworld MADLIBS application. You save time by filling in the (nouns) and it gets plugged into the standard "disappointed" template :lol

The iPhone Nano will never exist...ever. Give it up!

Now give me some damn Mac Mini action!

Happens with my Blackberry and camera batteries too. What is a modern rechargeable battery then?

How old are your devices. I have no issues at all with my launch iPhone, two digital cameras, laptop, PSP, two iPods (2nd Gen Nano still holds charge well, 160 GB Classic has zero problems)

wut happened to the new os?

lol srsly wtf
haha. I think 10.6 is going to be primarily a code tidy-up with a couple of architectural changes thrown in.

AFAIK, a battery cycle is a full recharge. From Apple.com

No, with Li-Ion batteries it's always been 1 charge = 1 full charge cycle. So, a 2 hour use + charge and then 5 hours of use + charge = 1 cycle.

And it'll be interesting to see what battery life is after 12 months.

Great keynote with plenty of new announcements to get me excited! I just got some new hardware so I wasn't interested in anything new there.

-New iWork available tomorrow for only 80 bucks

-iWork.com Integration

-Keynote iPhone Application

-New Pricing for iTunes music

-3G song downloads now available

Great job Apple! :D

EDIT - OMG iWork '09 trial available for download now!!

line by line:

New iPhone: was never gonna happen. some of us tried to explain why, but you're crazy if you thought this was plausible.

Snow Leopard: I guess it doesn't demo well. it's still gonna be released this year. It was always announced as a spring/ summer release.

iMac. the only thing they would announce is a new speed bump, and graphics chipset. not worth the showtime.

iGame. really? REALLY? c'mon.

Mac mini: Agreed this is strange. I'm still hoping they revamp it within this quarter but I guess it wasn't ready in time for the keynote. or they decided that iwork.com was more cool :D

Store is back up.

No stealth updates.
So what's the next Mac event that could possibly yield a Mac Mini update?

thank god my wallet is safe :D

on a side note apple is sooo dumb to not refresh the mac mini line, i love my macs, i love my apple tv, but i dont want to waste money on another apple tv and would love a new mini to just sit in my entertainment room :(

Apple hosts their own events all the time. Could come in just a few weeks. I'd guess early February at the earliest though.

I'm hoping it updates here shortly..it's showing me currently that actually half my collection is upgradeable, but I figure with the changes today it should be more than that? Most of the stuff I really wanted upgraded isn't there yet.

To be honest it's the Mac mini that bothers me the most. Hopefully it'll be revamped soon. Otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if it just drops off the Apple store sometime in the summer :(

The batteries apple uses are trash. Twice since I've had my mbp, the battery "health" goes down to 50% after only a year and I have to go in and get them to replace it under my applecare. Utter rubbish.

in itunes I get priced for 102 songs, but I can only download 26. so I have to pay upfront for all of them and then slowly download them all as they become available?

and why AAC? Are they obsessed about making things as unportable as possible? whats wrong with mp-fucking-3?

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck? Shit man! FIFTY BUCKS TO UPGRADE ALL MY SONGS? Including the ones I don't care about anymore? God... fuck.

And then there's the problem of it changing my added date when I do upgrade. I don't want that! I want them to keep their old purchased date. Not change to todays date! I did that once. I regretted it instantly.

WTF?!?! I can't chose which songs I want to upgrade?!? I have to buy everything? There are lots of songs that I don't listen to them anymore!!!

Please tell me there's an individual upgrade link for the songs... because I can't find it.

EDIT: Alas, hurray for DRM free songs from now on.

I'm wondering if I should shell out the $71 (after edu discount) for iLife '09 or if I should wait. Perhaps there will be a new Mac Box Set when Snow Leopard comes out.

The description tells me that I can upgrade individually but I don't see the link for it either.

I'm going to try and hold on for a mac mini update and get ilife with that. plus it'll give me time to read some proper hands-ons

iTunes Plus means I can now re-download some stuff I purchased on an old computer a few years ago (and have since lost) for a fraction of the price.

Yay!

:lol :lol

You have to pay for the songs you already bought for them to be drm free? WHAT? :lol

the ilife stuff does kick ass though, the garageband additions are really cool

and ive always liked iwork; blasphemous, i know but it is a great program i think

edit: also you could just burn the songs onto a cd(for the car) and then just re-rip them in aac so you don't have to pay

backup the other songs or something, just throwin that out there, if it....hasnt...been...yet?

I mean I'm glad DRM is dead, but $.30 to upgrade plus it changes my date added is bullshit. Make it $.10 and maybe. I have 162 songs to upgrade currently. A hundred and sixty two!

I'd have to spend all of my $23 in gift cards plus more just to upgrade them all. AND download them all again.

If they offered it cheaper or, I dunno, maybe FREE like it should be, then I'd upgrade. For now I'll wait.

Also, I assume this only applies to music. Video is still DRM'd isn't it?

I would do this too if I hadn't bought a new MacBook less than a year ago.

You can't re-download stuff you've bought on iTunes, anyway. I think most (all?) of the digital music stores are like that, as well.

Basically, if you delete it you're fucked.
