If there were a new product to be introduced (in the vein of iPhone Nano), you can bet Sir Steve would be the one doing the intro. They're saving the new cool stuff for a special event in a month or two.

Today's announcements are exactly what I'm looking for--no new products, just bringing all of the lines up to date (either feature wise or price wise) and maybe new features.

Also, I'm hoping for a spanking new Apple TV so I can buy a current model on refurb and replace my Ubuntu Boxee setup. :P

Andy Ihnatko teases (sorry if old):
And there was even a small bit of Business. I now have a piece of information that will put a big damned smile on the face of any Apple fan. Just a big, fist-pumping expression of glee.

No, I can’t tell you what it is.

Yes, I’m just a big no-fun jerk.

See, before I was told this thing, I agreed to go off the record. Then I was told that thing, and I immediately said that I took back what I said about going off the record because this was just too damned cool. But…a promise is indeed a promise. I wouldn’t even be saying this much if I hadn’t cleared it first.

The man is basically in hospice.

Any other year I'd agree, but he's really focusing on his health right now. Phil's been given the launch codes to the Apple Megaton Silos.

MacRumorsLive works for me. You can tell because the countdown near the top is working.

"The keynote is due to start in 8 minutes."
Countdown works for me and they just started posting.

Does Engadgets site have to be refreshed or does it do it for us?

edit: I usually rely on MacRumorsLive but last time their auto refresh system was a little behind so everyone watching the other sites was commenting on stuff I hadn't gotten to yet. This time I'll use both engadget and macrumors.

No, MacRumorsLive, and Gizmodo does that.

And for me, MacRumorsLive does this:

Actually, if you have a big ass screen 9to5mac auto refreshes, and it is four blogs combined:

You don't happen to work for Gizmodo, do you?

If he worked for Gizmodo he'd be pointing out how he totally predicted that Steve's health was the reason he wasn't delivering the MacWorld keynote.

Because, you know, figuring out the answer to 1+1 is hard.

And I dont even have a Mac yet (Just the touch. Because the macs are expensive, but I AM getting one soon)

Get a Mac Mini.

I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm not getting my hopes up. Ah, fuck this!

We'll see. You may be right, but I get the feeling we're not going to be too surprised today. My expectations are lowered, so whatever we get I'll be pleased.

Ihnatko never promised the hotness would be announced today, did he? He says it's something that's not even been rumored... very intriguing.

My secret wish: App Store/SDK for Apple TV. That'd be a perfect excuse for me to buy one, and I could write it off my taxes. They'd probably wait until WWDC for that, though.

Edit: Also, I'm following the gdgt live blog (former editor of Engadget's site):

I'm the same, I only have an iPod Touch, but I really want to get a Mac sometime this year.

Who the hell is Ihnatko, anyway?

An alternative for Macrumorslive might be their Twitter: http://twitter.com/macrumors

That's what I like about Gizmodo :lol :

Jason Chen:
Everyone’s expecting Phil to come out on stage, but what if he comes out from the back and runs up? Like a Vegas magician.

Actually, in a lot of ways, it makes sense to have Phil make the announcement. It shows the world that Apple can drop cool new products without Steve at the helm. They have to face a future without him at some point. Hopefully later than sooner, but still.

I thought about it but I'm getting tired of windows so I think I'll get the whole package.

Don't get an iMac. Nobody believes me that it's exceedingly stupid to get a computer with a built-in monitor that isn't a laptop, then they buy it and get all uppity about manufacturing errors causing display issues and BAM, you've gotta send the whole thing in for repairs or something.

(Seriously, about a year ago it came to a head and Apple got sued over iMac display issues.)

The company's desktop line-up has a massive hole in it. The iMac is cheap but hardly expandable, the Mac Pro is a LOT of computer with a price to match. I'm really hoping the Mac Mini is strengthened enough to be a solid bridge between the two.

(What about my stance on laptops then? Macbooks and Macbook Pros seem to be, in my experience, pretty rock solid and a laptop's lifespan seems to be shorter than a desktop's.)
